First time at Gables but won't be my last! Had a lovely, relax and delicious Sunday brunch there with a few friends. Our server, Gretchen, was attentive and helpful notwithstanding that we ordered the breakfast buffet. Was very knowledgeable about gluten free choices on the buffet.
All the staff was helpful and friendly. Highly recommend giving it a try.
Great food and service!! Always a favorite for us. Thanks
We have dined at the Gables many times in the past and were often pleased. Our visit on Friday the 13th was not such a visit.
Gables salads were predictably good, while served at a very slow pace not anticipated based on the 3/4 empty dining room. Entrees were served later, much later. When they arrived the red snapper was tough and dry, buried under a pile of acidic sautéed peppers and onions astride equally dry and flavorless rice. The shrimp and grits featured perfectly cooked shrimp in a soup of chopped vegetables slightly thickened with corn meal. This was not the excellent disc of the same name previously enjoyed at the Gables. Slow service continued and when cleared, the nearly untouched fish filet elicited no comment or question.
We will return, but not too soon.
We had Sunday brunch and brought our daughter and son in law & Baby. Service was excellent. A bit noisy but that was due to a large birthday party which was nice to know they could accommodate. Food was good but only 1 meat at the omelette station and no mushrooms
unfortunately there was a wedding in the upstairs room and that took priority on getting the dinners out to us downstairs.
because of the noise level from upstairs the people downstairs had to almost yell at each other in order to have a conversation.
would it not be a good idea for those making a reservation for a dinner with friends be told
there is a wedding and give them the chance to reserve dinner for another time?
we were disappointed for sure and will hesitate going back!!
I was disappointed in our visit. The food was ok. Shrimp ceviche was rubbery and the fruit was hard. My shrimp and grits was decent, but the peppers were overpowering and detracted from the overall flavor. I thought the meal was overpriced for the quality of the food. Our server was repetitively condescending and for all these reasons, I wouldn't go back. There are many other restaurants with better food at a lower price and with nicer servers.
Food was very good, although a bit pricey. Loved the setting and our server was great. We were there for several hours and never felt rushed. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Gables is always great in every aspect. A favorite place of mine in highly recommended. The food in the service are second to none
I have always wanted to try this place and it did not disappoint! The food was delicious and enjoyed by all including my 8 year old.
We will definitely be back.
We went for the Easter brunch. Food was good. We are upstairs I wish we had a downstairs reservation it seems they dining room downstairs was a bit more quant. The service was horrible from the time we walked in to the brunch service. Coming in the host was sitting on a stool the entire time directing people from a seat (not picking sure but as a host he didn’t make our party feel welcome to the establishment) the servers at the buffet stations were the highlight of the service and were very friendly. Our waiter was lazy we had to ask for water and coffee refills and to have plates removed from the table. Overall food was good facilities were nice and service was awful. Would most likely not come back.
It was a good enough experience for Easter Brunch, but we have had better.
Good food and Friday night live piano music!
A lovely restaurant and staff. Our food and service were excellent.
We were grateful for the chef and our server’s attentiveness to our food allergies. We enjoyed a delicious meal and were grateful the chef gave us a strawberry to celebrate my Mom’s birthday as the cake and ice cream were not a fit for her allergies.
Thank you!
Little trouble finding the place - the link on Open Table took me to someone’s driveway...might want to fix that, guys.
My daughter and I sat in the very comfortable and charming bar area. Drinks were great, food was great, price was reasonable. It was delightful.
The Gables restaurant has beautiful ambiance, and they actually have table cloths!!! The service was warm and friendly, the food delicious, and the cocktails were creative! I can’t wait to return!!
All 6 people who dined as a friends "get-together" enjoyed the meal; some in the group foodies and were completely satisfied with the dining experience and the service.
We were there to celebrate our friend's birthday. Our servers were very patient and attentive to our group. Unfortunately for other diners we were the loud ones. Food was great. Good time was had by all
This is our fourth time here and as always the server is very pleasant and professional. However there have been changes as it relates to presentation and portion. First thing the coffee was cold and had been sitting a while based on the taste. Although my mother really enjoyed the shrimp and grits for the fourth time it was presented much differently with a smaller serving. I had the crab cake sandwich, I HATED IT and did not eat it!! Separately the slaw was ok but not on the top of the crab cake! The slaw caused the crab cake to collapse because it was too mushy. Slaw and sauce gushing everywhere. I didn’t eat it or take it too go. I was not happy with my experience and sadly may not return!
Amazing food, lovely atmosphere with the small fireplace, serenaded by the piano player near the bar. Perfect special evening out on our weekend away. Highly recommend.
Our server mindy did everything right
We had a special evening
Wish I lived nearby

Met a friend here for lunch on a Saturday. We sat in the tavern area per my request, as we had it to ourselves. The sun was streaming in, we sat in wing chairs and it was relatively quiet.
There was a wedding upstairs so there were "energetic" children about who were also looking for more places to explore. A few parents brought babies in to quiet them down. All in all, not too bad.
Our food was wonderful, especially my crab cake sandwich! We had a really nice time.
The service was extremely slow. We couldn't order dessert because we were there already 1 3/4hours and only had 2 hours for lunch.
Excellent food and ambience. Unfortunately our server was horrible. Never once were we told the specials, he only came back to check on us when we were done our meal, and he would ask a question and not even wait for the answer. It was so awkward that my husband asked if he was in a rush or had too many tables. We have been to the Gables numerous times, but if this person was my server again, I would ask to be moved. It really put a damper on the evening. This bad experience will not keep us away from the restaurant, but it will keep us away from that particular server.
Delightful venue.
Great food, great atmosphere, overall great experience
This was our first time. The place is beautiful. Mindy was our server and she was so nice and accomidating. We will be going back soon. Hopefully in the summer we can sit out on the patio.
Very good dinner. Scallop special highly ranked. Energetic place - some would consider it loud. Great place for groups or a date.
We had a great experience at The Gables.
The Gables at Chadds Ford continues to provide excellent food and service! They accomodate request for menu substitutions, and the ambience in the main dining area is great! Our server Michael has waited on us many times and was efficient and courteous as usual.
Excellent food and service (good size portions) and martini.
Love the location and warm atmosphere. Sunday brunch is overpriced for what you get. Very limited buffet selections with additional charges for omelets and soups. Won't be back for brunch.
The food was outstanding, and they were willing to entertain substitutions to our liking.
This was my first time there and I would definitely recommend. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. It was a bit noisy, but, to be fair, it was Friday happy hour. I would have liked a better selection of meatless entrees besides fish.
We were greeted at the door by Tracy and offered a variety of seating options in both dining room and bar. We decided to have some drinks at the bar and got so comfortable there we ended up ordering apps, salad and entrees. The brussel sprouts were fantastic. I also had the salmon with a chutney that added just the right sweetness, along with some root vegetables. The only thing that was a little bit different than I expected was the kale salad. Instead of dark green kale which I was used to, this salad featured some white and purple kale that was interesting and flavorful nonetheless. Dan did a wonderful job waiting on us, spacing out our courses and offering attentive service without ever making us feel rushed. He is also well educated on wines that the Gables offers and helped us each decide on different wines that quenched our palates and paired well with our food. The atmosphere at the Gables is amazing and I would highly recommend this charming restaurant to anyone!
Mushroom soup is really French Onion soup with a few mushrooms thrown in. Very deceiving to call it mushroom soup! Chairs aren’t the most comfortable but otherwise had a great time.
Went here on a snowy night and we're glad we didn't cancel this first-ever visit of ours. Lovely spot, great lighting and very comfortable. Had a piano player with a wide vocabulary of mostly Classic Rock tunes played with deft ability, almost like the piano was singing the songs. Not overbearing, but a great soundtrack to a delicious meal and evening out. Great food, wine and beer selections.
Our server, India, was terrific & knowledgeable. The service was unhurried and with just the right amount of attention to our needs. The chocolate cake dessert has won awards and we know why! Spent an hour at the bar afterwards, great conversation with the bartender while we capped a great night off with another cocktail. Highly recommended!
Our reservations were early on a Saturday evening and it surprisingly busy. We were seated within a few minutes. We had the braised short ribs and pork belly wrapped lamb shank and they were excellent. Our server, India, was very attentive despite it being busy. We had been disappointed with the food on our last few visits last year but gave them another chance and glad we did.
Very nice atmosphere, exceptional service!
The starter salad and entrees (salmon & filet mignon) were superb. The cheese plate afterward left much to be desired ( uninspiring selection of cheeses). The service was professional and attentive.
It was one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. It was beautiful and The live pianist was amazing as was the service and the food. Our server Phillip was very nice with a great sense of humor.
