The Gables at Chadds Ford, established in 1997 and owned by Ann Kolenick since 2011, is situated in the heart of the historic Brandywine Valley. Located in a converted 1800's dairy barn, the setting is simple yet elegant. We were greeted at the door by Tracy and offered a variety of seating options in both dining room and bar. We decided to have some drinks at the bar and got so comfortable there we ended up ordering apps, salad and entrees. The brussel sprouts were fantastic. I also had the salmon with a chutney that added just the right sweetness, along with some root vegetables. The only thing that was a little bit different than I expected was the kale salad. Instead of dark green kale which I was used to, this salad featured some white and purple kale that was interesting and flavorful nonetheless. Dan did a wonderful job waiting on us, spacing out our courses and offering attentive service without ever making us feel rushed. He is also well educated on wines that the Gables offers and helped us each decide on different wines that quenched our palates and paired well with our food. The atmosphere at the Gables is amazing and I would highly recommend this charming restaurant to anyone!

Mushroom soup is really French Onion soup with a few mushrooms thrown in. Very deceiving to call it mushroom soup! Chairs aren’t the most comfortable but otherwise had a great time.

Went here on a snowy night and we're glad we didn't cancel this first-ever visit of ours. Lovely spot, great lighting and very comfortable. Had a piano player with a wide vocabulary of mostly Classic Rock tunes played with deft ability, almost like the piano was singing the songs. Not overbearing, but a great soundtrack to a delicious meal and evening out. Great food, wine and beer selections.
Our server, India, was terrific & knowledgeable. The service was unhurried and with just the right amount of attention to our needs. The chocolate cake dessert has won awards and we know why! Spent an hour at the bar afterwards, great conversation with the bartender while we capped a great night off with another cocktail. Highly recommended!

Our reservations were early on a Saturday evening and it surprisingly busy. We were seated within a few minutes. We had the braised short ribs and pork belly wrapped lamb shank and they were excellent. Our server, India, was very attentive despite it being busy. We had been disappointed with the food on our last few visits last year but gave them another chance and glad we did.

The starter salad and entrees (salmon & filet mignon) were superb. The cheese plate afterward left much to be desired ( uninspiring selection of cheeses). The service was professional and attentive.

I had high hopes for this place, as the ambience of the restaurant is nice, with a relaxed outdoor area with gas fire pits and the restaurant itself being an old renovated barn. We went on Valentines Day for dinner, so I may be willing to give the place another try on a non-holiday, as quality at many places suffers on these busy holidays. I won't go so far as to say that the place is bad. It's not, there were just some items of disappointment.

We had a reservation and were seated quickly when we arrived. The place was busy, and one thing we noted soon after we sat down was that it was loud. The dining room is wide open with no walls or baffles to keep noise down, so it just gets loud and the sound reverberates off of the hardwood floors and brick walls.

I got a cocktail (gyn and tonic) which was made very well with Tanqueray gyn. No skimping on the liquor. Good start.

I had the Gables Salad, which was excellent, and my wife had the Kennett mushroom soup, which she also enjoyed. For dinner, I had ordered the lobster fettuccine carbonara. This is where disappointment presented itself. My entree was only luke warm when served (I hate cold food) and was largely bland and flavorless. My wife had the crab cake, which she said was just OK. For the prices and the experience up to that point, I would have expected more from our entrees.

Desert was somewhat redeeming. I had the pecan pie and my wife had the expresso cake, and both were pretty good.

The only other disappointment was the service. While she did her job, I got a sense that she was being asked to handle too much as she had absolutely zero personality and seemed rushed. I don't even think she told us her name. A restaurant which aspirations such as this place needs to have service that not only performs their basic duties well, but also adds to the overall dining experience and sells it.

In short, bring the noise level down and increase the quality of service and this might be something.

Totally perfect Valentine's Day dinner from beginning to end. Wood fired Filet Mignon was very tasty and tender. The wood fire prep definitely made a difference. Phillip, our server, was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. This was our first time dining here but we will definitely be back.

We really like this place, the food and atmosphere are wonderful. We were a bit disappointed with our reservation. We made an 8pm res and didn't get seated till 8:35 and this was after we let them know that we were at the bar at 7pm.

It was just okay. One problem and not just with this restaurant is serving way too much of the sides. I don’t need 35 roasted carrots or same number of potatoes. Simple and less is better, the focus should be the main entree!

This was the 2nd time we went, and we will definitely go again. The food is excellent, and our waiter was great! When we told Phillip that he was our waiter the last time we were there (2 years ago), he was so happy that we remembered him!
