The Gables at Chadds Ford Ratings and Reviews
Food was outstanding. Service was very good as well. Noise level was distracting making it difficult for wife and I ti have conversation. The hoise level decreased as the dining area thinned out a bit so I would recommend making dinner reservation for 8PMor later.
My friends and I went to Gables in the summer and liked it. We sat outside which was lovely although a little hot. An outdoor fan would have been nice. The food and service were both good especially for the price; A good value. However, this time the experience was a lot different. I ordered the chicken Waldorf salad (which was good previously) and the butternut squash soup. The soup was tepid and the salad was just terrible. The chicken was dry and there was way too much mayonnaise and just glop. Very disappointing. The young man who waited on us was very sweet but not a very good waiter. We had to ask him to remove our plates when he brought out the desserts.
I'm willing to give this restaurant another chance because it is such a pretty restaurant and the location is good for my group of friends (since 1978). We all come from different locations. But the food will have to be a lot better the next time or we will have to call it quits.
We had dined at The Gables and enjoyed the meal so we returned for brunch this time. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and specifically told our server that I like my eggs runny. My daughter had ordered the same item. The service was slow but we were in no hurry. When the meals did come, the egg yolks were solid, practically hard boiled, for both of us. The server left before we discovered this. He never came back to ask if our meals were ok. By the time he did return, I had discarded the hard yolk (you may have guessed that I don't like hard boiled eggs) and ate the remainder of the meal. He asked about the meal, I told him about the eggs and he offered to bring me another meal - too late! He departed again and my husband had to hunt him down to ask for our check. And, the restaurant wasn't busy at all!
The Gables outdid itself gor Thanksgiving dinner: a sumptuous buffet, attentive service despite a steady crowd, handcrafted drinks and a festive, but casual, atmosphere. In addition to the traditional fare, the buffet featured what was surely the best prime rib I’ve ever sunk my teeth into. Service was superb; desserts to die for. We’re never cooking at home again!
We have had many dinners and several brunches at The Gables at Chadds Ford for many years and have always enjoyed good food and service. This was our first lunch there and we were not disappointed! The salmon sliders were exceptional as was the service India provided. She was attentive and courteous.
I took my husband here for his birthday and it was a disaster!!! There was a wedding being held above the restaurant and the noise level was unbearable! We moved into the bar area which was somewhat more tolerable. I ordered grouper and when the waitress brought it to me it was not only breaded, which wasn't noted on the menu, but it was as dry as a bone. Obviously it had been frozen and old. I told the waitress it was inedible and to please remove it. She came back and said they had a problem with their fish delivery and I said they shouldn't have offered it to begin with. By that time I was so disgusted we just asked for the check. They did remove my entree from the bill but it didn't make up for the horrible experience. It would have been bad enough if we had just gone there for dinner but the fact that it was suppose to be a celebration made it even worse.
This was our 6th or 7th visit a d we were disappointed. They didn’t have the wine we wanted. My husband’s steak was all grisle. He never complains but had too. They brought him a filet but for the cost we aren’t sure we will be back again. Very disappointed
Heard much about this place since it was under new ownership. Went this past Saturday night. Not very crowded in fact by 9:45 it was empty. Not too impressed with the food. Had the mushroom soup....very small portion for $9. Grouper was only fair. Wife enjoyed her meal. Not a great value. Won’t be returning.
My wife and I love this restaurant: friendly service, good food, nice atmosphere, and often live piano music in the bar area; but the one negative issue we have is that it can be too loud due to the size of the main dinning area, the acoustics, and how close everyone is to each other.
This is the first disappointing meal we ever had at The Gables. Food came to us cold. The manager and waitress immediately dealt with the situation and took the entree off of our bill. Sometimes it is how you deal with an issue that makes the difference. They dealt with it very professionally. We will be back.
What a fantastic dinner! We are from the south. The fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits were absolutely awesome! And the pimento crab dip (hot) was so yummy and the braised short rib was over the top!! So delish!! Our server, Mindy provided exceptional service!! I highly recommend!!
Gables was AWESOME! Without a doubt, this was he best dining experience since moving to this area 3 years ago. Food was incredible... I had scallops (perfect!!!) & husband had steak. Service (Michael) was excellent... attentive but not intrusive. Value (not a concern beforehand) was a happy surprise... amazed to have such a wonderful meal & wine for such a reasonable price.
My boyfriend and I came here on a Sunday for brunch and really enjoyed ourselves. Our server Gretchen was very friendly and checked in on us. We had the buffet and my boyfriend had the add on Eggs Benedict. He enjoyed it very much. I had a peach Bellini and he had a mimosa and caramel macchiatto. I thought the items on the buffet were different and not just your typically pancakes, waffles, etc. I enjoy going places and trying new things. We had a great time and definitely will be back in the future.
Second time eating at The Gables and so glad to have come back. Allison, who greeted us at the front, made us feel so welcome and her friendliness and hospitality made us feel as though we were visiting with friends. The well appointed fall decor was so cozy and inviting as well. In the nicer weather, eating under the tent or on the patio is a must - the hanging paper globes, glowing lanterns, soft flowing sound of the water feature, all makes for a cozy and special atmosphere. Food was good - mushroom soup tasted more like onion soup, but the banana dessert made up for it! Service is very attentive and personable. A great find and so worth a stop if you are in the area. Highly recommend for a romantic evening!
