The Gables at Chadds Ford Ratings and Reviews
We have had many dinners and several brunches at The Gables at Chadds Ford for many years and have always enjoyed good food and service. This was our first lunch there and we were not disappointed! The salmon sliders were exceptional as was the service India provided. She was attentive and courteous.
I took my husband here for his birthday and it was a disaster!!! There was a wedding being held above the restaurant and the noise level was unbearable! We moved into the bar area which was somewhat more tolerable. I ordered grouper and when the waitress brought it to me it was not only breaded, which wasn't noted on the menu, but it was as dry as a bone. Obviously it had been frozen and old. I told the waitress it was inedible and to please remove it. She came back and said they had a problem with their fish delivery and I said they shouldn't have offered it to begin with. By that time I was so disgusted we just asked for the check. They did remove my entree from the bill but it didn't make up for the horrible experience. It would have been bad enough if we had just gone there for dinner but the fact that it was suppose to be a celebration made it even worse.
This was our 6th or 7th visit a d we were disappointed. They didn’t have the wine we wanted. My husband’s steak was all grisle. He never complains but had too. They brought him a filet but for the cost we aren’t sure we will be back again. Very disappointed
Heard much about this place since it was under new ownership. Went this past Saturday night. Not very crowded in fact by 9:45 it was empty. Not too impressed with the food. Had the mushroom soup....very small portion for $9. Grouper was only fair. Wife enjoyed her meal. Not a great value. Won’t be returning.
My wife and I love this restaurant: friendly service, good food, nice atmosphere, and often live piano music in the bar area; but the one negative issue we have is that it can be too loud due to the size of the main dinning area, the acoustics, and how close everyone is to each other.
This is the first disappointing meal we ever had at The Gables. Food came to us cold. The manager and waitress immediately dealt with the situation and took the entree off of our bill. Sometimes it is how you deal with an issue that makes the difference. They dealt with it very professionally. We will be back.
What a fantastic dinner! We are from the south. The fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits were absolutely awesome! And the pimento crab dip (hot) was so yummy and the braised short rib was over the top!! So delish!! Our server, Mindy provided exceptional service!! I highly recommend!!
Gables was AWESOME! Without a doubt, this was he best dining experience since moving to this area 3 years ago. Food was incredible... I had scallops (perfect!!!) & husband had steak. Service (Michael) was excellent... attentive but not intrusive. Value (not a concern beforehand) was a happy surprise... amazed to have such a wonderful meal & wine for such a reasonable price.
My boyfriend and I came here on a Sunday for brunch and really enjoyed ourselves. Our server Gretchen was very friendly and checked in on us. We had the buffet and my boyfriend had the add on Eggs Benedict. He enjoyed it very much. I had a peach Bellini and he had a mimosa and caramel macchiatto. I thought the items on the buffet were different and not just your typically pancakes, waffles, etc. I enjoy going places and trying new things. We had a great time and definitely will be back in the future.
Second time eating at The Gables and so glad to have come back. Allison, who greeted us at the front, made us feel so welcome and her friendliness and hospitality made us feel as though we were visiting with friends. The well appointed fall decor was so cozy and inviting as well. In the nicer weather, eating under the tent or on the patio is a must - the hanging paper globes, glowing lanterns, soft flowing sound of the water feature, all makes for a cozy and special atmosphere. Food was good - mushroom soup tasted more like onion soup, but the banana dessert made up for it! Service is very attentive and personable. A great find and so worth a stop if you are in the area. Highly recommend for a romantic evening!
We enjoyed an early dinner on the outdoor patio. The shrimp and grits were the best I've ever had, and my son's filet mignon was perfect with a complex and delicious reduction sauce. Nice salads. Good drinks, great service, lovely setting. We love Thanksgiving here too.
Enjoyed a nice lunch on the patio. A rustic, pretty setting. I highly recommend, weather permitting. We had a delicious mushroom soup, almost like an onion soup with cheese on top. Corn bisque was very good, too! I enjoyed a half portobello wrap with my soup. It was a small portion but good for a light lunch. My husband had the regular wrap which was very filling. Our friends enjoyed a kale salad and salmon sliders; all excellent. Service was very pleasant and efficient. This was the perfect location to grab lunch prior to going to the Brandywine River Museum, which was nearby.
