Brunch buffet area too cramped for diners to pick up their food. Back up on omelet station do they offered to make some in the kitchen. That was nice and saved wait time but the omelette was not as good as the omelet station’s! Overall the experience was good but not great- will try. Brandywine Prime next.
As usual the service exceeded expectations
Very sparse crowd which made for a very quiet dinner
I loved my steak, and the smoked salmon appetizer.. There was a limited menu, only one salad, and just a couple of dishes without red meat or shellfish. My wife enjoyed what she had, but wished that there were more vegetarian options
The service seemed rushed, although it wasn't crowded. When I tried to flag our waitress, she asked me "what's the matter", not "how can I help you" which was a bit odd. My elderly parents did enjoy their scallops, but the rest of the food was mediocre. Just not the atmosphere we expected.
Delicious food and very special environment. Good service and fair prices
Can’t wait to go back!! Food was delicious! Next time would like to go for dinner!
As always a consistent quality dining experience.
Definitely a solid option for a lovely brunch. Lots of variety and don't forget to leave room for dessert.
Great farm to table experience with knowledgeable wait staff and a fresh seasonal menu. Highly recommend for small events or a date night.
Salmon entree was ok. We've dined there often and service that Wednesday evening was slower than normal ...most likely because there was what looked like a marketing event going on upstairs in their banquet area. The table we requsted and two other tables in the main dining room were occupied when the Hostess brought us into the main dining room. She told us to 'pick any table'. We told the hostess that we had requested a certain table and pointed to it. She did not apologize and actually said the people sitting at it 'should finish up soon'. We chose another table and good thing we did because the people who were at our requested table finally finished and left an hour later! Very disappointing experience...considering were where there for a special occasion.
This was our first time eating here for brunch and we really enjoyed it! Our waitress, Mindy, was sweet and friendly. I had delicious hot chocolate to drink. Mom had coffee. My mom and I ended up ordering from the buffet, which had everything from omelettes, to shrimp and grits, and pancakes. They also had yummy biscuits and gravy which were really good. My dad got the Classic Eggs Benidict, which he loved! Mom had desserts from the buffet, Dad had the chocolate banana cake and I had the creme brulee, which was yummy! We will definitely be back!
A homely atmosphere, very good customer experience. A good place to get together. You will hear people shouting and laughing, but it's expected as people are coming here to have a good family time.
They don't have many pages of menu that just confuses the customers 😂. Food was good, I won't say great. We were a family of 4. Starters were our favorite.
My wife and I have been to the Gables quite a bit over the last few years but we were beginning to fall out of favor with the restaurant due to the length of time it took to get served. Boy have they improved with their new chef. WE HAD A TREMENDOUS MEAL and were served in a very timely manner.
As always, Phillip is the best server, and we thoroughly enjoyed out dinner and will be back for sure.
The Gables is always a very nice place to sit, chat, and have a wonderful meal! We don't get to visit there very often -- we're an hour and a half away -- but when we are in the area we make sure we stop!
Uh oh - I love this place but wonder if it was a bad night or the new normal. My soup and dinner were both off - some questionably raw lobster in the bisque and bone dry (almost crunchy) sauceless pasta with four dry sausage pieces. We drive an hour to go there, so probably have higher expectations, but one of the most disappointing food I’ve had out I’ve had in a long time. Ambiance and bar always stellar.
Scallops weee amazing the service was impeccable would definitely return cozy outside firepit
The Gables at Chadds Ford has become our favorite restaurant. The combination of great food and wine; exceptional service; the option of seasonal outdoor dining; and the overall ambiance (not to mention live piano during dinner) is what brings us back. We do ask for a particular server, Mindy, who over the years has been the consummate professional as well as a personable and friendly server. She provides suggestions for wine pairings, appetizers, desserts, etc. without being pushy. I wish I had a "Mindy" in every restaurant I visit.
Food was mediocre.
The experience at The Gables was.. subpar. I heard GREAT things about this place, but was let down. First, I’d like to say that the decor was beautiful. Exposed brick and hardwood floors are my weakness, so I was in love with the interior/exterior of the building. The galvanized metal chairs were a great touch to the rustic feel of the establishment.
The food, however, did not live up to the hype. I ordered the duck sandwich, and it was very chewy. It felt like I was eating a fat sandwich. And the bacon on the sandwich overwhelmed the duck, making it taste like a bacon and toast sandwich.
Lovely, quaint restaurant with wonderful service and excellent food.
Had a great Valentines dinner! It was our first time here and we will certainly be coming back. Our waiter Mike was fantastic!
The last time we dined at The Gables was poor. Months later we decided to give it another chance, foolishly. When we arrived at 7:30 pm, we were told there would be at least a 35 minute wait, even though we had a reservation. The three of us finally accepted a very small table in the noisy bar area instead of the dining room. We waited another 30 minutes and our only acknowledgement was from a busboy! We inquired about who would service our table and after waiting another 15 minutes a server stopped by. She explained that she was really the pastry chef and that their computer system was down. We didn't understand why she offered these statements as an excuse for ignoring us. It was 8:45 pm at this point and all we had so far was water and three small, cold, hard rolls. We should have left but on Valentine's Day, we would have had a difficult time getting seated elsewhere. The food was terrible. Our soup arrived cold. I had to send the lobster bisque back because it tasted spoiled. The crab dip had absolutely no crab and was thin and watery. The entrees were very small and mediocre. The Filet Mignon actually tasted strange. It had no sauce and wasn't as described on the menu at all. What a bad experience! We wasted at least $150 that was supposed to be a special occasion dinner. It was ruined. We feel robbed!
Must have been an off night. My wife and I went to The Gables for Valentine's Day, and we were looking forward to a romantic dinner with candles and the fireplace going, etc. Unfortunately, we were seated upstairs in their event space. Trying to take advantage of increased seating for the holiday, I believe they bit off more than they should have. The ambiance upstairs may be great for a reception or party, but it wasn't the most romantic setting. Even the chairs were cold metal pieces that belonged on an outdoor patio. And the service was extraordinarily slow, which was evident looking at others around the room. Fortunately, the food was excellent as usual, but everything took so long that we decided against dessert.
We went for Valentine’s Day and it was so cute! They seated us in the ballroom upstairs which was decorated so pretty and the service was great! We got the surf and turf, omg the steak was amazing!
I was disappointed with my meal. My wife enjoyed the scallops, but was unhappy with the mushroom appetizer and toffee dessert. The puff pastry in the appetizer was chewy and tough. My entree the shrimp and grits was half warm and half tepid. The dessert cake had the texture of whole grain muffin. Very disappointing.
One of my favorite places to dine! Food, ambiance, and service are great!!
Best seared scallops I've had in years. Nice wine list. Tasty lime pie.
Food and atmosphere were excellent. The Sunday Brunch is a great value. We really enjoyed ourselves!
It was my wife's birthday, the waitress and hostess were great, the food was excellent, the ambiance was good. Now the problem, there were kids that were running around in the bar area, shouting, giggling , etc. It was like a playground, maybe they are the owners kids? Seemed very odd. The bar area can be seen and heard from the dining area, very distracting when you are paying high prices for your dinner. Also a lady was in the bar area with a dog (odd), hugging it and walking around with it. She even took it into the kitchen!!!!! Once again very odd. I have been to many fine dining restaurants in the past, but have never come across this before. Just think about it, chatting with your wife on her birthday and hearing kids running around and dogs in the kitchen???????? But the food was great. ODD
Food was fantastic with great service. Very close to Brandywine museum
Terrible food, and mediocre service. Left after appetizers to find a new place. Ordered 2 glasses of wine, and served completely flat sparking wine from an old bottle. Appetizers came, so excited about tortellini in brodo, which is all about the brodo - the broth. The most tasteless broth I have ever encountered, like water with food coloring.
We love the Gables. Our waiter and waitress on Thursday nights are so helpful and kind. We love the food. And we are always proud to take friends there. Just a beautiful experience all around.
Lovely venue, beautifully appointed, with a very professional staff—friendly, informative, attentive but not overly so. The food was wonderful, except that the desserts were focused more on presentation and sugar content than on flavor and complementing the other food. We stayed for a long while but were not encouraged to go. What a great site, great food! I hate to admit, but I live in the area and had never been there before. I won’t make that mistake again.
I want to write a glowing review of this place because it's where I got married 2 years ago! They had an off night, I guess. There was confusion over who our server was going to be. The busboys were not well trained, one tried to grab away a dish that we had just had delivered to our table! There were two busboys roaming the dining room and they were both awkward and intrusive. My food was greasy (Frenched Chicken and Potato Croquettes); the beet greens were gritty, like they weren't rinsed well; the salad didn't seem to have dressing on it. On the plus side, we had an amazing bottle of Viognier!! Disappointing meal overall though.
This is the 3rd time within the past year we have eaten here. Each time we have had the exact same experience. The food was Outstanding, but unfortunately the service was sub par. Even with an early reservation (6:45), the food delivery was painfully slow. The order process was also disappointing. One of our party has a gluten allergy and NO individual assistance was provided. When asked, the server seemed annoyed to have to check with chef. He disappeared for long stretches of time and did not return to offer drinks. Once ordered, they took Forever to arrive as well. It is really unfortunate as the food was Outstanding! At the price point of this restaurant the service should at least be attentive and friendly. Both of which it lacked in entirety.
Great atmosphere, the service was excellent and the food was delicious!
We love the cozy atmosphere...fireplace...paintings in the beautiful Chadds Ford farm setting!
Ok food, decent service, the brunch buffet is nothing special.
