We were totally let down with The Gables. Totally overpriced, cold food and being it was a buffet on Easter Sunday evening, very poor , inadequate tending to the replenishing of the buffet food. For the very expensive food that was not very impressive and cold to boot , we will not be recommending the Gables to others.
The food was quite good but the service was lacking--even though it was a brunch and we did most of the work by getting our own food. Very surprised at the end to see the check--a 20% tip was automatically added on. Not classy.
The waiter was great, remembered us from previous visit. Most of the food was good except for the carving station, both selections were over cooked.
Easter Brunch outside on the terrace was absolutely perfect! Buffet offered a wonderful and delicious variety and our server, Mindy, was very attentive and kind on such a busy day. Thank You!
We were here last year and it was much better.
No home fries
No Aujus for beef
“Mashed potatoes weren’t mashed - chunky?
No gravy for potatoes?
Coffee cup was dirty - when I finished drinking my cup and here was some scum inside the yes cup it was not coffee
Some dishes were not being refilled timely - example: fruit tray was empty - sat to eat a plate went back still empty.
I loved the ambiance at The Gables. However, the chairs in the dining area are very uncomfortable so took away a little bit from the enjoyment. The Easter Brunch, although plentiful, was lacking in normal breakfast items such as scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash brown potatoes and rolls or bagels that are normally a part of a buffet brunch. The omelette and waffle stations were wonderful and the desserts were perfect. I enjoyed having mini desserts to try rather than large pieces of cake, pie, etc. Overall a good experience.
This was our first dinner experience at The Gables. We were delighted and most certainly will return!
As is the usual our dinner at the Gables was lovely. The food was unique and terrific. we were there for a girls night out and we were not rushed at all. Everyone was friendly. Looking forward to my next visit.
There were numerous issues, extremely salty food (3 out of 4 dishes), poor/strange server, drink knowingly made incorrectly without mentioning at the time it was served, and overall just not an-acceptable experience. I called to discuss with the assistant manager, who seemed concerned and even took my number, promising to call back. That was 5 days ago - no return call. Not sure we will be back.
Very accommodating and efficient staff from the front desk to the table. Food was delish and atmosphere was delightful.
Ann, the proprietor, and Michael our waiter were more than accommodating in making certain that our first anniversary celebration was everything my lady and I expected it to be.
It was just delicious! My friend ordered the cheese platter and the presentation was done so well and I believe it was all local cheeses with a wonderful fig preserve and sautéed apples and walnuts. The scallops were spectacular with a sauce that I would love to figure out how to recreate! All and all it was a wonderful meal!
I wouldn't rush to go back. I was expecting a little bit more, and I don't know if it was because it was Sunday night and everyone was relaxed but our service was a little slow, the soup was lukewarm at best. The best part of the meal was the cheese plate! That was excellent.
Our Server Phillip was outstanding. He was very attentive and personable but not intrusive.
Very good. For everyone else it was the 1st time and everyone really enjoyed it. Liked the ambiance, service, food and drink quality.
A very nice lunch! The mushroom soup here is excellent served in a French onion soup style crock. The soup and half sandwich entree was plenty of food and reasonably priced. Iced tea was fresh brewed and good. The BLT sandwich entree was good also and came with a very nice salad in lieu of fries. It was also fresh and tasty. My only comment is that the hostess never asked if we preferred indoor or outdoor seating. It was a lovely warm day and we hadn’t realized the patio was open. But the dining room was very nice and comfortable so all was fine.
Lively restaurant with separate bar area. Inventive decor. Interesting dishes and varied menu. Very efficient staff.
Brunch buffet area too cramped for diners to pick up their food. Back up on omelet station do they offered to make some in the kitchen. That was nice and saved wait time but the omelette was not as good as the omelet station’s! Overall the experience was good but not great- will try. Brandywine Prime next.
Thank you for your feedback. I sincerely apologize for the wait at the omelet station. We were busier than expected that morning, and unfortunately, our omelet station chef got backed up. This is not a normal experience, and I do hope that you will come back and dine with us again.
As usual the service exceeded expectations
Thank you so much for your review. We would love to know what we could have done differently to earn a five star review from you. If you would like to share some more details, kindly send us a message through our website and we will discuss with management.
Very sparse crowd which made for a very quiet dinner
Thank you for your rating, Brenton! We are glad you enjoyed your meal with us. We hope to see you again soon!
I loved my steak, and the smoked salmon appetizer.. There was a limited menu, only one salad, and just a couple of dishes without red meat or shellfish. My wife enjoyed what she had, but wished that there were more vegetarian options
The service seemed rushed, although it wasn't crowded. When I tried to flag our waitress, she asked me "what's the matter", not "how can I help you" which was a bit odd. My elderly parents did enjoy their scallops, but the rest of the food was mediocre. Just not the atmosphere we expected.
Food was laughably bad and service was pretty minimal. To their credit, server comped my meal after I complained about inedible fries.
Delicious food and very special environment. Good service and fair prices
Thank you so much for your review! We always enjoy hearing from our satisfied guests. We hope to see you again soon!
Can’t wait to go back!! Food was delicious! Next time would like to go for dinner!
As always a consistent quality dining experience.
Definitely a solid option for a lovely brunch. Lots of variety and don't forget to leave room for dessert.
Great farm to table experience with knowledgeable wait staff and a fresh seasonal menu. Highly recommend for small events or a date night.
Salmon entree was ok. We've dined there often and service that Wednesday evening was slower than normal ...most likely because there was what looked like a marketing event going on upstairs in their banquet area. The table we requsted and two other tables in the main dining room were occupied when the Hostess brought us into the main dining room. She told us to 'pick any table'. We told the hostess that we had requested a certain table and pointed to it. She did not apologize and actually said the people sitting at it 'should finish up soon'. We chose another table and good thing we did because the people who were at our requested table finally finished and left an hour later! Very disappointing experience...considering were where there for a special occasion.
This was our first time eating here for brunch and we really enjoyed it! Our waitress, Mindy, was sweet and friendly. I had delicious hot chocolate to drink. Mom had coffee. My mom and I ended up ordering from the buffet, which had everything from omelettes, to shrimp and grits, and pancakes. They also had yummy biscuits and gravy which were really good. My dad got the Classic Eggs Benidict, which he loved! Mom had desserts from the buffet, Dad had the chocolate banana cake and I had the creme brulee, which was yummy! We will definitely be back!
A homely atmosphere, very good customer experience. A good place to get together. You will hear people shouting and laughing, but it's expected as people are coming here to have a good family time.
They don't have many pages of menu that just confuses the customers 😂. Food was good, I won't say great. We were a family of 4. Starters were our favorite.
My wife and I have been to the Gables quite a bit over the last few years but we were beginning to fall out of favor with the restaurant due to the length of time it took to get served. Boy have they improved with their new chef. WE HAD A TREMENDOUS MEAL and were served in a very timely manner.
As always, Phillip is the best server, and we thoroughly enjoyed out dinner and will be back for sure.
The Gables is always a very nice place to sit, chat, and have a wonderful meal! We don't get to visit there very often -- we're an hour and a half away -- but when we are in the area we make sure we stop!
Uh oh - I love this place but wonder if it was a bad night or the new normal. My soup and dinner were both off - some questionably raw lobster in the bisque and bone dry (almost crunchy) sauceless pasta with four dry sausage pieces. We drive an hour to go there, so probably have higher expectations, but one of the most disappointing food I’ve had out I’ve had in a long time. Ambiance and bar always stellar.
Scallops weee amazing the service was impeccable would definitely return cozy outside firepit
The Gables at Chadds Ford has become our favorite restaurant. The combination of great food and wine; exceptional service; the option of seasonal outdoor dining; and the overall ambiance (not to mention live piano during dinner) is what brings us back. We do ask for a particular server, Mindy, who over the years has been the consummate professional as well as a personable and friendly server. She provides suggestions for wine pairings, appetizers, desserts, etc. without being pushy. I wish I had a "Mindy" in every restaurant I visit.
Food was mediocre.
The experience at The Gables was.. subpar. I heard GREAT things about this place, but was let down. First, I’d like to say that the decor was beautiful. Exposed brick and hardwood floors are my weakness, so I was in love with the interior/exterior of the building. The galvanized metal chairs were a great touch to the rustic feel of the establishment.
The food, however, did not live up to the hype. I ordered the duck sandwich, and it was very chewy. It felt like I was eating a fat sandwich. And the bacon on the sandwich overwhelmed the duck, making it taste like a bacon and toast sandwich.
Lovely, quaint restaurant with wonderful service and excellent food.
Had a great Valentines dinner! It was our first time here and we will certainly be coming back. Our waiter Mike was fantastic!
