The French Market & Tavern
The French Market and Tavern is open for lunch and dinner. It also offers a brunch service on Sundays. Inspired by foods from New Orleans, its menu includes crab stuffed catfish, boudin balls, fried green tomatoes and gumbo soup. A great place for tourists to dine, the French Market and Tavern features craft beers from a local brewery. It also serves specialty cocktails such as a double rye Granhattan or sea breeze martini.
Warm and welcoming, it offers a casual décor with inspirational wall art displayed throughout. Along with food and drinks, the French Market and Tavern sells lots of clothing, home décor and personal items such as t-shirts, cups and lotions.
Menu has changed and not worth the $$.
Ordered a bowl of French Onion (not the cup) soup. May have been 3 ounces for $8. Worst ever. Very salty. So disappointed. Calamari was rubbery. Usually order a good meal but this was a game changer for me.
We made a reservation for dinner as we were traveling to Atlanta on October 31st. We arrived to find the restaurant closed with no sign out front. We had also checked the website for meal options and there was no notice given of a closure there either. Very disappointing.
Awesome service, awesome food. I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. French Toast was amazing and the Ultimate Breakfast meal was refreshing. Friendly environment.
This used to be a wonderful restaurant with quality service. Sadly, it is very different now. We were one of only 3 tables in use on a Friday night. The server would disappear for very very long periods of time and then tell us she could not attend to us properly because they were so busy! What!?
The menu is much smaller and they have taken off most of the cajun selections that made this place unique.
The desserts used to be superior chef made-from-scratch quality. We tried three different ones and they were all pitiful. Mine was supposed to be a chocolate layer cake made that day by the chef. It tasted like those old cakes we used to make in the Easy Bake Oven under the light bulb. Two of us did not even finish ours. The server just said that was a shame we didn't like them. We will NOT be going back.
Yes Sheri, Typically the day after Thanksgiving is slow industry wide. It is regretful to hear about your recent experience with us. I assure you we are still a wonderful restaurant with quality service. Our team at French Market work very hard to exceed that expectation. If you are able to contact me directly I can insure that the issues you've described in your review are addressed appropriately. Your visit is not the typical experience our customers enjoy daily at the French Market.
This used to be one of my favorite places to get Shrimp and Grits but I had one the worst served to me. It was extremely spicy and lacked any flavor. Additional my friend received a lunch portion of fish for the cost of a dinner size. When we complained, the waitress agreed it was a small piece and brought out another piece. The meal ended with us getting the wrong ticket and had to point that out before paying. I hope the restaurant work on and make corrections so the next time I try them I am not disappoint.
Our server (Eric) was a mess. We were the 2nd table seated when the restaurant opened this morning. We ordered right away. All of the other servers tables filled in, got food & were leaving. None of Eric’s tables had food. He explained hand written orders take longer & caused a delay. Then tables of his that came in way after us started getting their food. We ended up leaving after an hour of waiting. No one asked us why or cared we were leaving.
The gumbo bowl was quite small. I can't imagine how small the "cup" size would be. The Cajun fried green beans were okay but not great (the sauce that came with the beans was flavorless). The porterhouse pork was good, but a little bit dry. The jambalaya was great! The cocktail drinks were very good. The service was a bit slower than usual, even though it was not a busy night. It's a good restaurant, but we've had better experiences there.
Seems they had a recent management change so reviews prior to 11 October may reflect previous management.
While there was a bit of confusion when we arrived, we were seated outside as we asked and provided attentive service.
Drinks were served in a timely fashion and all our questions about drinks and the menu were answered.
The food was excellent. This was indeed a hidden gem. The staff did seem concerned and committed to addressing whatever issues they had prior to our visit.
Our party didn't notice anything that would turn us away. We actually looked at having dinner there on Monday the 14th on our way back to Atlanta, but they were closed.
I highly recommend this restaurant.
Made reservations for a birthday brunch after hearing wonderful things. Drive all the way there 45 minutes to find that the doors were locked. Very unsure why we were allowed to make the reservation when the location was not open. Very very disappointed!
I made a reservation at 11:30 for Sunday Brunch which was posted as 10:30-3:30 online . There was a brunch menu available and my time slot was confirmed on Open Table however after driving 1.5 hours to the restaurant I arrived before 11:30 to find the restaurant was in fact closed. The hours posted on the door still showed Sunday open from 10:30-3:30 but there was a handwritten note on 1 door with the message "Closed- New Management". This was very disappointing and a complete waste of time. More effort should have been put into changing the hours online and preventing reservations from being booked while the restaurant was closed.
Food is average and way over priced. On a good note, the place is gorgeous. Just wish the food was as great as the restaurant looks!
This was my first time dining at the French Market and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Everything was superb, including the decor, service, wait staff, menu, my meal, et al. I'd definitely go back.
This experience was quite disappointing. The food was adequate, prices high and service slow. The fried chicken breast was a boneless breast in a fish and chips type batter and was so greasy I had to put a paper napkin under it to absorb grease. The cake tasted like it was from a week prior. Server tried to pour all of the wine from the bottle in what felt like an attempt to not have to return to pour more, thereby having wine too warm because we couldn’t drink it quickly enough. We will not be returning.
Worst French Onion soup I’ve ever had...burgers were a little too greasy, causing buns to become very soggy. Server was nice replaced my soup with veggies that were decent. Very cool concept inside.
The food is way to0 over priced.. I ordered the shrimp and grits, too spicy and bland. The grits were really runny..worst shrimp and grits Ive ever had...
We were staying at a hotel in the area and they recommended this restaurant. They even gave us a menu for dinner, which was quite extensive. We made a reservation and headed over for dinner. After seating us and presenting the menus, we realized the menu was totally different and quite a bit more expensive. The house Chardonnay was 6.50 on the hotel menu and 9.00 at the restaurant. We questioned the waitress and she told us she was new and was not familiar with the old menu. If you check the online menu, those prices are more in line with the menu at the hotel. We were definitely surprised.
Great ambience and good service but the food was not good. The filet was very chewy and didn't even look like a filet. The rest of the food was not good. We will not be going back.
Fav brunch spot for me & my daughter
Buckhead prices in Griffin with less than stellar service.
Food was okay, nothing memorable. Our waitress took her time checking on our party of 2 and then took forever to bring the check. After shopping in “the market”, I decided to get an iced coffee from the coffee bar. After waiting some time at the counter, the server (who was busy adding up her checks) informed me that she didn’t know how to make the coffees. She asked someone else and she didn’t sound too confident. By this point, I was just ready to leave. Bad, slow service.... as I was walking out, I could hear the server making an ugly comment about us.
First of all, don’t ignore your customers and second, you lost $ by not staffing your coffee bar at prime time on Saturday at lunch.
Restaurant was not busy. Service was slow, especially drinks from the bar. We’ve enjoyed several meals here but something was definitely off.
Great waitress. Slow kitchen. Food mediocre. Ambiance very nice. Little disappointed. We usually make a yearly trip to F. M. when in town. We probably will give it another chance.
I was highly disappointed with the quality of the food. The mac and cheese was like flour paste and the roast beef au jus was not good at all. I felt like I was eating a steakum dipped in salt. Sorry for the bad review but I am just being honest. The waiter was very good. The atmosphere was very good. But the food was horrible. For 40 dollars (we had an appetizer too), it was not worth it at all.
Our visit to the French Market was very disappointing. I have eaten there several times in the past and have been pleased with the food and service. I heard there was a change in ownership and apparently the restaurant has lost its way. The Calamari tasted like cooking oil, and had a heavy coating on it. My friend had the over seasoned shrimp and grits that wanted to test your ability to eat spicy food. My seafood platter was as plain as you can get. They make it sound like they are doing you a favor serving some remoulade sauce with the dish. The service was slow and didn't get the order correct. AND they charged a lot of money for a poor experience. They are off my list.
Delicious salmon cooked perfectly! Will definitely be going back!
Great service and great food! Very pleasant atmosphere.
Our waiter was new which is totally understandable but this past experience was very lackluster compared to previous ones. Brunch food was not good. Macaroni bites were very salty. The potato’s taste like they were re-warmed and not fresh. The eggs were rubbery. The waiter placed the wrong order and corrected but still charged us for the original wrong order. I was disappointed since I bragged so hard about the food from my last visit.
We’ve been going to The French Market since they opened. For years I considered them a “Buckhead” quality restaurant. Great date night atmosphere and really good food. The last two visits however have been very disappointing. The atmosphere is still nice (unchanged) and the service was great. There are several staff that stayed after the ownership change. But the food at our last two visits was disappointing. The menu appears to be relatively unchanged but the execution was lackluster at best. The sides were acceptable but the entrees were just not good. My wife had the salmon. It was bland and over cooked. I ordered the 1/4 Roast Chicken. It too was over cooked. Way over cooked and tough. With entree’s in the mid $20’s and up, the quality better be excellent and it was not. We have decided that we won’t be going back anytime soon.
I read all the bad reviews about The French Market and was prepared to be disappointed, but I was very pleasantly surprised! My birthday dinner was fabulous! The waitress was awesome too. I guess don't always believe what you read.
It was excellent! The only thing I would change or add is a way to get seafood that is not fried. Having a selection of baked, blackened or seared would be a great option.
My plate was delicious, but service was soooooooo slow. Waited 15 minutes to get any waitstaff... waited another 10 for drinks, at least another 20 for our food. By the time we were finally served we had been there over an hour. It was Father's Day, but the restaurant was not nearly full. Finally, we made a reservation on Open Table and showed up on time, but they acted as if they were not expecting us and we had to wait 5-10 minutes while they floundered around to get an (empty) table ready for us. Others in my party said their food was just okay, nothing out of the ordinary. Overall: not impressed.
Waiter does good job for someone who covers the room by himself. The room filled up. Took along time to get our food. Burger was over cooked. My California sandwich was missing turkey. Disappointing except for the company.
The evening started with the bartender disappearing for 10 minutes to find a wine opener for the wine we had ordered at the bar. We had a reservation for 8 at 6:00 p.m. and a lovely table was prepared for us near the window. We were the 2nd table of the evening to come in. Service overall was incredibly slow and got much worse as the restaurant started to fill. We ordered by 6:20 and when the waitress came to check on us at 6:30, I explained that two of our party had to leave by 7:30 to catch a plane. She assured us that our food would be out by 6:50. At 7:21, the food arrived and our colleagues had to gulp it down before they left. Thankfully the food was good. I think the restaurant was incredibly understaffed. I counted 11 tables of customers, some with large parties like ours and only two servers. Poor preparation on a night when they had a special of "buy one entree get one free". I will not try again.
We waited at least 45 minutes for our food and the restaurant wasn't very busy at all. There were 6 people in party. One individual got the mushroom swiss cheeseburger and there were literally 3 small (looked like they came from a can) mushrooms and the cheeseburger was very small (thin) in comparison to the bacon cheeseburger another individual ordered. I ordered (after a recommendation from our waitress) the floretine alfredo and it had NO taste at all. Very disappointed. I had to add so much salt to it to be able to eat it. My cousins from Ohio got the porterhouse to share and it was so tough they could barely cut it w a knife. The man who had the mushroom swiss burger also had cold onion rings. We drove over two hours to eat at your restaurant and needless to say, we were highly disappointed!!
We had a very nice table, our server was very knowledge and fun. The only thing I did not like was the volume of the music. It was very good music but the speaker was right over our table so it was pretty loud. The food made up for the noise though. All in all a very good experience.
Great place for dinner, The cajun dish with chicken was waaay over seasoned, so much so, tou could not taste nothing else but the spice. However, the server was very accommodating, the fried chicken was great. First time here, ita a place we do plan on visiting again.
French Market food was real good. Service great. The only thing is I have one less star bc table was pretty nasty like it hadn’t been washed all day. Paying that much for food you would expect more.
4 visits in a row knocked out of the park. Love the subtle menu changes from visit to visit. Best chicken and waffles around!
The service was very slow, the food ... The eggs and grits were not seasoned , the waffles were hard and grainy, the bacon was way over cooked, the fruit was not fresh, the drinks we ordered were in smelly glasses. All this for an outrageous price!! Apparently the restaurant is under new management so don’t bother going there no.. None of the food from the previous management is available so don’t get your hopes up.
Awful. We had reservations & still waited 40 min for a dirty table. The wait staff came to clean....by flipping the table cloth over & the second side wasn’t much better. No water or drinks were provided for well over 30 minutes & when coffee was served it was lukewarm in a paper cup with creamer in a jar. The meal (buffet) didn’t improve any....the salad was bagged salad from a grocery store, the biscuits were so burned they bounced...in fact all the food was burned, sausage, chicken tenders that weren’t, solidified scrambled eggs & cheddar grits filled with unmelted kraft singles. My husband said the ham was good...I was afraid to try the pork. It was easily the worst meal I have ever been served anywhere— so much so that we refused to pay for it as it was inedible. The Manager was very nice about it & comped our meals & gave us his cards, hoping we’d come back for another try & aak for him personally. I appreciated his efforts, he looked as though this wasn’t the first time that he’d heard this. We were all so disappointed as this previously was a fantastic restaurant, unfortunately that is no longer true. Avoid!!!
Was not expecting it to be a buffet. Don’t feel like it was a good value. For 3 people the tabs was almost $100! Very disappointing.
