We loved the spirit and enthusiasm by Andrea, our server. Also, our seating on the sun porch was great, allowing us to soak in some nice rays on a warm and sunny pre-Spring Sunday. Food was fine....a good value.

Charming place with both excellent food and service and the rare capacity to be quiet enough to hear yourself talk. Ate here on a busy Saturday night but it didn't sound that way. The waitress overheard our party of six talking about a birthday and brought out dessert with a celebration candle. Would definitely return.

This is another restaurant with Americanized French food. I left with a full belly, but didn't feel that I had a French meal.

I took the mousse truffée, because it mentioned foie gras. By definition, foie gras has some consistency. I didn't taste it at all, in the mousse. That, by itself, was quite disappointing.

Again, the food was overall good, and the service was excellent. Unlike other "French restaurants" though, I didn't feel like I was back in France.

Around the corner is a more modest, but much more French restaurant, Julien's. If what you are looking for an authentic French restaurant with a much better price/quality ratio, it's the place to go to.

We have dined in Middleburg many times and I am kicking myself that this was our first time at the French Hound. I was put off by the fact that they didnt have a website but I am glad I took the chance. Its a charming place, tucked back off the main street in a historic home. I had the escargo which were cooked perfectly and the steak frites. Both were delicious and great paired with the very reasonable french wines they had by the bottle. We will definitely be back!

The management need to review the requirements for staging brunch and make changes to deliver a seamless and complete experience. Though in the overall, the food was good, issues such as not having sufficient tea pots, no toaster for toast etc took the rating down. As well, service was pleasant but a bit accidental in the execution as drink order delays, failure to ask if cream was desired with tea, promised bread not delivered etc detracted from the experience.

We drove out to middleburg for valentines day and started with brunch here. We were seated at a cozy table in an area all by ourselves. Our waitress was great. We got both of the specials at her recommendation. We started with the lamb sausage bites and the special fried shrimp. And moved onto the steak frites and the special croque madame. Great way to start the special day

We make it a necessity to eat dinner here every time we visit the Middleburg, VA area. The service is always exceptional and the food is high-quality and delicious. Les Escargot are an amazing option for a starter and you cannot go wrong with any entree choices either. For dessert I highly recommend the molten lava cake!

Off the beaten path, but worth the drive from pretty much anywhere. Le Escargots was billed as better than The French Laundry's, I'll leave that to someone who's been and can compare, but was delicious. The canard au poivre was pleasantly different, but a bit over for my taste, not certain if it was accidental or if it's typically prepared medium.

We always plan a dinner at The French Hound when in Middleburg. French bistro comfort food plus other taste treats come out of this consistent and skilled kitchen. Casual to upscale, warm ambience and fabrics from Provence provide charm. A favorite with the locals.

A pleasure from start to finish beginning with a warm welcome at the entrance. Once seated the wait staff are personable but yet professional, helpful with menu questions and attentive with out being overbearing. Last but certainly not least, the chef prepares a remarkable dinner, every time. A truly enjoyable experience, so much that we continue to celebrate our anniversary at The French Hound each year. Do make your reservations early as the word has gotten out about this gem of a restaurant.

A beautiful little place to grab a bite. The food was fine, but not memorable. Portions were small, but the biggest disappointment was that enough dishes (escargot, scallops) we're good enough to suggest that this could be an incredible place if the kitchen cared a little more.

We have eaten at the French Hound for the past 7 years, several times a year. In addition to the good food, it has its own parking space, which is a nice plus in Middleburg. Service is always friendly without being stuffy. Have eaten there for Sunday brunch (eggs benedict), lunch (hanger steak and pomme frites), and most recently for dinner (scallops and risotto, mussels, both fantastic).

Extremely disappointed given the reason I made a reservation here was because of the stellar reviews for this place in Middleburg. The host and our waitress was snooty, and not hospitable at all. The food was not tasty. We ordered the gumbo (which was the day's special), a salad and a Boeuf Bourgnignon (Classic French Beef Stew) and side of fries. Gumbo and Salad was mediocre, not to par with what is expected at a restaurant with great reviews. The Beef stew was one of the worst I've had. Beef was tough and the red wine sauce was watery tasteless. Best part was the mushrooms in there. Fries were ok. Sadly the only reason this restaurant was memorable was how dissatisfied we were.

At my suggestion, our group of five traveled to the French Hound for lunch. The food was good as always, but there was a misunderstanding on the price of one of the lunch entrees that three of our group ordered. We were told the higher price was due to the larger portion offered when ordering. At no time did the server say the larger portion cost cost $18 vs $11, so it came as a shock when we reviewed the bill. As a gesture of good will and in consideration of the fact that our group ordered other food and drink, the proper thing would have been for the restaurant to acknowledge the misunderstanding and offer the entree at the lunch price. Instead, those who ordered the entree were given a measly 10% reduction. I was embarrassed and the exchange dampened what should have been a lovely gathering.

French Hound is a nice, quiet restaurant off the beaten path in Middleburg. Set in what appears to be an old house, it has lots of country charm. Had a starter of the escargot and it was superb. Served with warm sour dough bread to sop up delicious garlic butter! Main course was their take on duck and salmon which was just okay. Salmon was prepared well but buried in a vanilla buerre blanc that was somewhat overpowering. Duck was fairly unremarkable which was disappointing since French usually do it so well.

The French Hound is just such a wonderful restaurant, and the welcoming atmosphere starts with the husband-and-wife ownership team. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and she was made to feel very special by our server, who was as nice as she was efficient and knowledgeable. The French Hound makes Middleburg.

Menu is pricey - and I hate the "shared" plate charge of $4.50 . Seating in the one room is very tight - no privacy and therefore noisy. I prefer the Lighthouse in Leesburg.

I ate a wonderful dinner at the French Hound during a girl's getaway weekend in Middleburg. The restaurant is quaint and there are multiple cozy dining areas in the converted house. The service was excellent and our waitress, Andrea, was knowledgeable, friendly and fun. The food was outstanding. Each of the six diners was very happy with their meals.

This has been a place we've been meaning to check out for quite some time. We have visited most every other eating establishment in Middleburg and the surrounding area, but had never quite got around to this one.

While I am never certain about restaurants with plastic folding menus, the French Hound pulls it off nicely. Our waiter had a solid understanding of wines, the Caprese Salad appetizer was delicious, and the main course (crab cakes for some, rib eye and asparagus for others) were done well.

I really appreciated the atmosphere. We were going out with a couple for the first time, and while most every table was occupied, it was still easy to carry on a conversation.

This will certainly not be our last visit.

Despite the fact that I made the reservation a few weeks earlier requesting a booth, we were seated next to the kitchen at a table. There was one person sitting in a 6 person booth! Needless to say, the kitchen traffic was noisy and busy. The food was limited. Desserts were good. Would not go back.

This unpretentious, charming local gem was a great find for us. It was recommended by several local folks, who we know are "foodies". Very experienced chef/owner who prepared our dishes with great sauces and fresh ingredients,, most locally sourced.
Our service was excellent, relaxed but not too chummy. They handled our lateness, due to a violent storm passing through, courteously. We have already recommended this authentic French style restaurant to several friends.

My wife and I had lunch here and really enjoyed it! It's a block off the main road in Middleburg and much quieter. We sat outside on the small patio which was very nice. The food was top notch and the service was warm and prompt. A very nice, romantic experience. I would highly recommend it.

Went there on the recommendation of some friends. The decor is 'french bistro' but I found the decor tired and obvious. We were there during lunch and the restaurant was not that busy....but we sat at our table for a good 5-8 minutes before anyone came near us to offer us drinks or take an order....despite front of house staff walking by our table repeatedly.

The menu is not particularly imaginative, nor is it particularly 'french' other than the ubiquitous 'steak frites' option. Given that this was May I would have expected all sorts of beautiful spring vegetable offerings to appear but none of that...the specials of the day were crispy shrimp, veal sliders topped with prosciutto and lobster risotto...since when did those become french??

When the food chosen arrived, 2 of us had the lamb tagine and one of us had the veal sliders, I found the tagine portions were small, the sauce was bland and the starch was not typical couscous...not sure what it was....the veal slider plate had a mountain of fries piled on top of it...not really a french presentation.

The desserts were equally disappointing, although here the portion size seemed over the top. Two of the party had chocolate mousse and one of us had lemon pound cake with lavender honey ice cream.
The chocolate mousse was missing depth of flavor and was accompanied by a wudge of whipped cream and served in a sort of biscuit shell. Mediocre at best. The lemon pound cake was a dry slab of cake with lemon drizzle icing and a scoop of 'gourmet' sourced ice cream. Not a particularly thoughtful presentation. The ice cream is not made in the restaurant and you can find better pound cake in the supermarket..and again....when did lemon pound cake become french?
Overall I felt the food was mediocre.
