The French Hound offers French cuisine, wine and cheeses on a menu stuffed with food choices ranging from salads to elegant meals. Owners John-Gustin and Marny Birkitt got their start in California's wine country before moving to France and eventually back to the states to open The French Hound. Open seven days a week, the restaurant offers great food and specials in an intimate and cozy atmosphere. A couple of its most popular menu items include les escargots and les moules. The French Hound offers various salad choices including gluten free, nut free and vegetarian. On Sundays, brunch is available with numerous meal choices including smoked salmon eggs benedict, truffles and French toast.

We loved the spirit and enthusiasm by Andrea, our server. Also, our seating on the sun porch was great, allowing us to soak in some nice rays on a warm and sunny pre-Spring Sunday. Food was fine....a good value.

Charming place with both excellent food and service and the rare capacity to be quiet enough to hear yourself talk. Ate here on a busy Saturday night but it didn't sound that way. The waitress overheard our party of six talking about a birthday and brought out dessert with a celebration candle. Would definitely return.

This is another restaurant with Americanized French food. I left with a full belly, but didn't feel that I had a French meal. I took the mousse truffée, because it mentioned foie gras. By definition, foie gras has some consistency. I didn't taste it at all, in the mousse. That, by itself, was quite disappointing. Again, the food was overall good, and the service was excellent. Unlike other "French restaurants" though, I didn't feel like I was back in France. Around the corner is a more modest, but much more French restaurant, Julien's. If what you are looking for an authentic French restaurant with a much better price/quality ratio, it's the place to go to.

We have dined in Middleburg many times and I am kicking myself that this was our first time at the French Hound. I was put off by the fact that they didnt have a website but I am glad I took the chance. Its a charming place, tucked back off the main street in a historic home. I had the escargo which were cooked perfectly and the steak frites. Both were delicious and great paired with the very reasonable french wines they had by the bottle. We will definitely be back!

The management need to review the requirements for staging brunch and make changes to deliver a seamless and complete experience. Though in the overall, the food was good, issues such as not having sufficient tea pots, no toaster for toast etc took the rating down. As well, service was pleasant but a bit accidental in the execution as drink order delays, failure to ask if cream was desired with tea, promised bread not delivered etc detracted from the experience.

We drove out to middleburg for valentines day and started with brunch here. We were seated at a cozy table in an area all by ourselves. Our waitress was great. We got both of the specials at her recommendation. We started with the lamb sausage bites and the special fried shrimp. And moved onto the steak frites and the special croque madame. Great way to start the special day

We make it a necessity to eat dinner here every time we visit the Middleburg, VA area. The service is always exceptional and the food is high-quality and delicious. Les Escargot are an amazing option for a starter and you cannot go wrong with any entree choices either. For dessert I highly recommend the molten lava cake!

Off the beaten path, but worth the drive from pretty much anywhere. Le Escargots was billed as better than The French Laundry's, I'll leave that to someone who's been and can compare, but was delicious. The canard au poivre was pleasantly different, but a bit over for my taste, not certain if it was accidental or if it's typically prepared medium.

We always plan a dinner at The French Hound when in Middleburg. French bistro comfort food plus other taste treats come out of this consistent and skilled kitchen. Casual to upscale, warm ambience and fabrics from Provence provide charm. A favorite with the locals.
