About

The French Goat is a quaint French bistro located in the historic district of beautiful Lewisburg, WV. Our menu is traditional French with touches of both classic and new cooking techniques. The decor is smart, relaxed, yet elegant. Our wine list favors French wines but we also have wines from California as well. Craft cocktails are a favorite here at TFG, and you can always find your traditional favorite or be adventurous and try one of the bartenders seasonal selections. The beautiful garden is a wonderful place to have dinner or a glass of wine and features a beautiful fountain to add atmosphere to your cocktails or dining.

Service was great as well as the salad, appetizer and main dish. The dessert du jour was a small portion for the $9 price tag.

This was my first time dining at the French Goat for Sunday brunch and I was really impressed with the menu options. In addition to the printed menu, they had a couple of specials as well. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

We got the Bénédictin Norvégien (smoked salmon on an English muffin topped with a poached egg and served with a side of potato hash), grouper omelette, and quiche. All 3 dishes were perfectly cooked and delicious.

The ambience was intimate and pleasant with great service!

We were at the Greenbrier for a yearly conference. We were thrilled to find how accommodating the staff was for our party of 8...giving us a private room. The restaurant has interesting, yummy handcrafted cocktails and a variety of creative beautifully plated cuisine. We would definitely go again when in the area.

We had brunch for my husband's birthday and we had a very pleasurable experience. The toast with goat cheese and figs was excellent, just outstanding. We each had the confit de canard benoit with potato hash. It was tasty but the potato hash was too peppery for me (although pepper lovers might like it) and we would have preferred the duck if it had been a bit more crispy. But overall we loved the ambiance, our waiter was top notch, and we had a great time.

One of the best meals we have had. Local sources when available, unique food combinations, great selection of wines, just delicious! Only negative comment would be large group seated in our small room was somewhat loud, especially as each new person arrived.

We were staying at the Greenbrier and love the town of Lewisburg so we decided to make dinner reservations at The French Goat. Dinner was good but overpriced. Very few patrons having dinner while we were there only 2 other tables. Waitress was terrible and totally untrained in table service! She was only capable of refilling my husbands water and totally ignored my glass---she also removed bread plates and knives while we were still using them but left the bread on the table--but most annoying was the complete attention she gave to setting up a table back to its pristine set up after one of the tables emptied---in lieu of attending to her customers! Loved the logo and advertising but all gloss and no substance----

Brunch was absolutely fantastic! They had plenty of options to choose from, but not so many to feel overwhelming. The owner seemed to know everyone and greet them at the door like old friends. Service was quick but not pushy. Great value. Classy, especially with music selections, for brunch!

My wife and I traveled an hour to eat here and it was very much worth the trip. We were welcomed immediately and treated to meals that were outstanding in flavor and quality. The service was excellent and the setting relaxing. It was Valentines Day so our only issue was being seated so close to the couples on either side of us. Yet that turned into a positive as we ended up having friendly conversations with both couples as we discussed our meals etc. Highly recommend the French Goat.

We were staying at the Greenbrier with friends. We ALWAYS have at least 1-2 dinners at The French Goat. We have raved about it for several years about the excellent food and wonderful service. And they were not disappointed! We started with seared foie Gras that was amazingly done and the mussels in a delegate wine sauce. Almost forgot about the great selection of wine with our dinners. Salads were delicious. The highlight was the sous vide lamb shank that was so tender that it fell off the bone.
We did save room for a scrumptious lemon tart and homemade salted caramel ice cream! “A foodie lover’s dream”

Having a fun ladies couple of days in Lewisburg, WV. Had seen the high ratings, so booked through Open Table (so easy) for a Thursday night. The place was fabulous. Perfect for our enjoyment. Easy access in historic downtown Lewisburg. And the food was the best part!!! One in our party, although not particularly fond of salmon, found the Arctic Char(of the salmon family) very palatable and enjoyable.
The charcuterie cheeses-a big outstanding!

A real surprise in the mountains. A friend recommended the Goat and we had a very nice meal. The fried oyster appetizers was among the best every. The soup de jour, carrot with coconut mil and Asian garnish was terrific. The short ribs were mouth watering, done perfectly, though the risotto was hidden. Dessert were fine, but the absence of espresso was unfortunate. All in all a very nice evening with an excellent environment, very friendly and generous people, and a special occasion

My Fiancée and I had a wonderful dining experience at the French Goat! We had dinner here to celebrate our engagement barely an hour after I proposed. From the start we were both very impressed. The greeter took our coats for us, and gave us a beautiful table to sit at. They started us off with some complementary drinks to celebrate the special occasion, and all night the service and food was fantastic. Great romantic atmosphere as well. They even gave us a complementary small dessert as well. Very satisfied with our experience at the French Goat, and I would recommend it to anyone!
