The Fox & Falcon
The Fox & Falcon serves up a clean, modern menu featuring familiar dishes, each anchored by in-season, locally-sourced ingredients, that shine under the tutelage of executive chef Matt Ruzga’s execution.
Food was great, and service was on point will eat here again
The restaurant is very nice. It is a larger place but feels intimate. Staff was very friendly. The food was outstanding we had the minestrone soup, Cesar salad, salmon, hangar steak and finally the apple cast iron pan dessert. The drinks were on point. Highly recommend.
Fun night with band playing after dinner
Excellent food in a great space with great service.
Amazing! Food was great! Service was excellent!!
Enjoyed dinner here. Food was pretty good but wouldn’t get my entree again (duck confit salad). Was way too loud in the main dining area - we were yelling to hear each other bc of a noisy bar crowd. Would recommend either eating earlier or to request the front seating away from bar. Would come back.
We were seated at the correct time at a very noisy part of the restaurant. We asked if there was a better option and was told that downstairs is better and they would check into it. No one got back to us and we ordered. The noise level was too loud for us to converse without shouting. There is no nosie absorbtion in the décor. The menu was quite limited and the food was mediocre. I had been to this restaurant before, but realized that I had come during the week. I did not remember the menu as being so small.
It took over 2 and a half hours and we were waiting for almost 2 of those on the kitchen... need I say more?
Good meal but service very slow
On Valentine’s night the restaurant was full, but tables
well spaced and noice level fine. Food and service was excellent. Our best experience yet at this restaurant.
We went to Fox and Falcon for Valentines celebration. They set up a special Pre Fix Four Course Menu as well as offering Wine Paring. Experience was amazing and over the top. We were seated immediately. Nixon our server was extremely friendly, engaging and efficient. Each course had two selections, entrée had 3 choices, we selected one of each choice and shared them. This added to an truly amazing experience. Food was exceptionally delicious, the four wine parings were excellent. Scott gave some great explanation on the wine. Dave the owner checked on us to make sure all was good. Three piece jazz band played up front with music being piped through the restaurant. We ended the night with another drink at the bar listening to jazz. A very romantic experience. Highly recommend this restaurant.
My wife and I went to The Fox and falcon for valentines night. The restaurant is beautiful, the atmosphere was superb, and the food was out of this world. We also had excellent service. I don’t have much in the way of anything negative to say. We will definitely be back to check out their regular menu. Excellent evening, excellent food, excellent time.
The service and appetizers were good: our server Shannon was efficient and friendly; and the Cesar salad and crispy fried fennel were both good.
But we will never go back. The noise level at 5:45 on a weekend night meant we had to shout across our two top to be heard; I can’t imagine what it’s like at the regular dinner hour. Both pastas were dry and undersauced; and the dulce de leche cake was dry and lacking in any of the flavors one counts on fr that dessert.
This is the third time we’ve tried this place. Three strikes folks, you’re out.
We had an amazing family dinner tonight! Full disclosure, we eat here a lot and have never been disappointed. The service from when we walk in to when we walk out is always warm and welcoming. Definitely a local/neighborhood spot feeling. The staff clearly spent a lot of time on the menu, drinks, and wine selection - and the execution matches that. Loving the new chef and seasonally changing menu.
Side bar. The space is massive and they do a great job accommodating kids but also date-nights and late-nights (I’ve done them all). Hard to create that feeling under one room but that’ve managed to do it!
Took almost two hours to get our meal.
Great new place!
Bar drinks and food are great. The service is generally good but they never seem to have enough staff so dinner can get long with lots of waiting.
Good menu, though limited. The drinks and services was amazing. I would definitely recommend.
Nice meal, not terrific. Pleasant service except man at entry desk never once greeted us with a welcome nor any other words, nor did he smile even a little. Not a good feeling for newcomers. Balanced by friendlier wait staff.
Fun place any day of the week, lunch cocktails and dinner.
Amazing dinner from start to finish. Make sure to start with the Fried Fennel appetizer. Steak, chicken, pasta - all excellent main courses.
Food took a ridiculously long time, but the band that played that night was awesome!
I'd heard a lot about the Fox and Falcon and looked forward to our visit. We arrived at 6pm on a cold Sunday night and the place was very quiet. I asked for a nice warm table away from the door and was told by an unwelcoming host that "all our tables are warm." Not really a good start. The table service throughout the evening, however, was excellent.
The menu is small, which is always a good sign, but largely unoriginal. And the majority of offerings, we discovered, are largely pub-style (burger, roast chicken, steak, three pastas and a salad) BUT at reasonably expensive restaurant prices for the area. Wine comes by the small carafe at about $17 a time. Our party of four shared two appetizers, ordered a variety of entrees and we shared one huge apple pie and ice cream dessert. Three of us had a carafe of wine. My hanger steak and potatoes (no accompanying veggies, which cost extra) was fine but unspectacular at $34. The total bill was $65-70 a head. By no means cheap for a pub ambiance (lots of TV sets at the bar, albeit off in the distance) and standard menu.
The British have developed gastro-pubs, an upbeat version of the traditional pub. Fox and Falcon seems to have modeled itself on this style. Still, its a lot to pay in NJ for that kind of food and ambiance. I'd certainly return for a drink and maybe brunch. But the value isn't there if the menu remains as unadventurous while the prices remain as steep.
Our dinner for 4 was a mixed experience. We were seated in a booth at 6:15, relatively early, and our waitress was attentive at the start. We had 4 good entrees--fish, chicken, and pasta. And 4 sides, of which two were very good and two were pretty good. Our drinks were fine.
We ordered around 6:30 and got our main courses after just 1 salad appetizer at 7:00. Seemed like a while for a light crowd. We then wanted to order coffee and the fun began. "No decaf" we were told. Huh? Then we got a coffee and a tea, and the coffee was lukewarm and bottom of the carafe. We asked for warmer coffee and literally got a small holder, 1/3 full, with more bottom of the carafe. And no new cup. Then they said they might be brewing some decaf.
Dessert (chocolate something) was essentially crackers and syrup. Blech.
The waitress thru all this was exasperated and making excuses.
So I would say that no one was making coffee, the kitchen must have been chaos, and the basic menu is solid when they can execute it. For the price we paid (with just one glass of beer) of $250 with tip, this meal started off strong and finished real weak. And tepid...
Delicious food and excellent service. We got recommendations for cocktails that were both excellent.
The fried fennel is one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted! The cauliflower entree was amazing. Excellent service. A must go to restaurant.
Our server seemed to want to turn tables, wanting us to order quickly. Didn’t seem that busy. Other than that we really enjoyed our evening. Other servers that came by were very nice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner, loved the short rib with horse radish sauce. Dulce de Leche dessert was a bit dry.
Awesome environment! Friendly, smile bearing staff! Cool patrons all creating a great night out!! Menu items are limited. They didn’t have Mac and cheese that night, however the food was gooooood!!
Food and atmosphere were good. The service was abysmal. We were seated on time for our reservation at 7:30. Our dinners took an hour and a half to arrive. We were not served our meals until 9:15. No staff member apologized to us, nor did they even bring us a basket of bread to tie us over until our food arrived. They completely ignored us. On our way out, we asked the manager why it took so long. He told us a food critic cane in at the same time as us and the staff tended to the critic’s table and we were pushed back for that reason. No apology from the manager, no coupon for a discount or free meal on our next visit. I have never been treated so poorly by a restaurant in this circumstance ever.
$18 for the cheapest glass of wine
Pretty much ridiculous
The service was excellent, but the noise level started at loud and proceeded to deafening! One of our group had puttanesca and wouldn't eat it - thought it was terrible. The rest had chicken and it was OK but too salty. Started with fried fennel which could have been great but also too salty.
Great addition to the town dining scene. Locals will love it and those out of town will make it a destination spot. New chef has kicked up the menu a notch with the addition of blistered shishito peppers and a Barrell cut hanger steak
We went to Fox and the Falcon specifically to see the jazz group performing, but looking forward to experiencing the food as well. We ordered a side of Brussels sprouts as an appetizer, the salmon, and a pasta dish. Everything was very good and prepared as described and ordered. My personally feeling was that the price point was a bit high for the dining experience, hence the low value score. Other than that there were no complaints and with the entertainment, which was excellent, I would give it a 4 star value rating.
Food took forever to come out.
The staff could not be nicer, but the restaurant is just okay. The menu is good, but the food was eh. We ordered the grilled brussel sprouts, which came out very hard. We shared the cauliflower steak, salad nicoise and branzino. The cauliflower didn't have much flavor, the seared tuna on the niciose was delicious, but was served with a caesar-like dressing and the fish was okay. We wanted to like this restaurant as it was recommended to us. I don't feel we can do the same. Sorry.
Service was awful. Slow, had to ask for things 3-4 times, Food orders messed up twice. Really disappointing!
Good food, pleasant atmosphere, but this place is a bit overpriced for what it is.
The food stood out among restaurants. Very special and fresh so we felt comfortable spending a little more. But just loved the atmosphere. Beautiful space. Loved it!
Steak was outstanding. A bit pricey but so close to SOPAC and cozy place.
Excellent service and food before going to show at SOPAC
