We visited The Fountain Room for the second time and for my birthday and like our first visit had a fantastic experience. The ambiance, food, and service are stellar and I would highly recommend trying this restaurant if you haven't had the pleasure.

The food is meh. This is the third time I’ve dined at the Fountain Room. The first time was great (brunch) we ordered the the croissant French toast and the breakfast scramble.. all good. Second time –also for brunch, I ordered the squash butter toast and was soggy, not good at all. The third time was yesterday– we ordered the sesame tuna and the mushroom truffle risotto. The risotto was not good and the tuna didn’t make an impression. I would come back for drinks and nothing more. I do have to say that both times I ordered disappointing dishes they were taken off the check.

Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at The Fountain Room. Dessert was my favorite - the grasshopper pie! Our Brie appetizer was just so so. It came out cold and some pieces of the bread were stale. But the flavor was great and the crushed pistachios on top were a nice add. I do not recommend the button mushroom casserole. It was mostly sauce and fried onion strings with very little actual mushrooms. My steak was delish and my husbands tuna was good too. It was very noisy (we sat at the bar) so if we go back, we plan to request a booth in the dining room.

Coffee refills at brunch were very slow and I had to wait a long time even after asking for refills. I was originally given a dirty spoon for my coffee with cheese stuck to it. My eggs had no salt or pepper, and the server didn’t come back to check on us until our food was more than half gone. Salt and pepper should be kept on tables if servers aren’t going to check on the food. We’ve been before and were very happy with the service, but it fell very short this time. I’m concerned about how clean the restaurant is, as the spoon was very obviously dirty.

Loved the ambiance. Great conversation pieces for the family dinner. Food was just glorified bar food. Nothing special. We all left with tummy aches. It was $134 for a family of 4. My 11 year old said she wouldn’t have spent more than $50 on our meal.

Full menu is amazing but if you’re looking for a late snack and couple drinks this is the place. Well laid out bar with plenty of space between tables and bar rail. Drink program is outstanding and whatever you order breadbasket goes great with any menu item. Fountain Room classic is my favorite drink in town.

The drinks, steaks and sides (very shareable portions!) were outstanding, but service was disappointing. We all enjoyed our steaks--perfectly cooked and generously sized. The accompaniments for the steaks were mixed--the blue cheese crust and bearnaise were very good but the bourbon peppercorn sauce was pasty and flavorless. Ultimately, the intense noise factor left us feeling exhausted, as it was very difficult to talk.

I went off script a bit last night with my menu choice. Instead of a typical steak which I have had at the FR before I went with the Prime Rib sandwich. I would say it was just ok. Not really hot (temp), a bit dry and the aus jus was room temp as well. Potatoes were good, the brie appetizer was good and the cheesecake was good as well. Love the venue, staff were great just could have used an uptick on the food last night.

Very mixed feelings over the consistency and quality of food. Overall, the food lacks flavor and the price point does not match the food and service. The atmosphere and our server was Evan … they were both excellent. Many of items on Menu are priced the same level of top Steak Houses in Indianapolis, however the quality of the Prime Rib is very sub-par. The Prime Rib was served cold and au jus did not bring the temperature to an acceptable level. My wife’s Salmon was suppose to be well done and cooked all the way through … the Salmon was pink with a cool center. The Brussels Sprouts side (highly recommended by our server) were “hard”, lacked flavor and definitely needed a lot more time on the stove to properly cook them all the way through. The Corn side was the highlight of the meal … it is spicy (prepared to our expectations). The Mushroom side was flavorless. The Asparagus side was very good. For starters, the Shrimp Cocktail did not meet our expectations and the French Onion Soup is loaded with onions (warned by our server) and the broth lacks flavor. The soup was the only dish served “hot” for our entire meal. For desert we had the Apple Crisp with Ice Cream. Again, the apples needed to be cooked through as they were hard and the tiny scoop of ice cream on top was not proportional to the size of the overall desert. The Wine List is limited and some items on the wine list are already being substituted. We tried the substitution at the recommendation of our server and were very disappointed. It is a beautiful place with an energetic atmosphere. We will try the Fountain Room again, but will order the Sandwiches as the high end entrees did not meet our expectations. Generally speaking the beef is not up to Steak Houses in Indianapolis and the price point they charge is the same as the best Steakhouses in Indy. Our bill with tip was $230+ and when compared to Tony’s, Ruth Chris, Sullivans, St Elmos’s, etc., there is no comparison.

Second time visiting, quickly becoming our favorite place to come. Food and menu options are so unique and fantastic. LOVE the ambiance and feel of the entire place. Brunch menu is a great option. This was our 4th visit. The food as always was very good. When we arrived they seated us to the very far right in the main dining area and it was incredibly loud. Without us asking, the server realized how bad it was and offered to relocate us to the bar area. The bar area was loud but MUCH better than the main area.

We went for brunch. Nice place and good good. Service was very slow including our drinks. I would try it again
