Good atmosphere and well worth the visit. Service was very good as was the food. Quality of the food was good and overall represents value for money. To enjoy the full menu with drinks you will spend around £50 per head which in my opinion is about right for what you get. My wife and I will be back for a further visit.

Went for the Sunday Roast, opted for the roast beef which did not disappoint. Portion sizes were very generous and the sides of cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets were also delicious. The team were very busy on a lovely Sunday afternoon and missed a second drinks order, but what we had was delicious.

My husband and I with 2 other friends had Sunday lunch here yesterday. We had never been therefore before and chose it because it was equidistant for all of us. The food was superb. We had salt and pepper squid and vegetable samosas to start followed by 1 roast beef, 2 roast chicken and 1 roast lamb with side orders of cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets. Half way through our lunch we asked for extra gravy and roast potatoes and these were brought without complaint or delay. Sadly only one of us could manage a pudding, the chocolate and caramel tart, which was gorgeous. The other 3 of us stuck to coffees. At no time did we feel encouraged to leave even when we lingered rather longer than perhaps we should over coffee. The seats were comfortable and the noise level was perfect. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PUB IF YOU ARE IN THE AREA.

We’ve been to this pub quite a few times. But on this occasion the food did not meet the expected standard. The We had a roast beef which was very pink, roast potatoes, green beans and Yorkshire were over cooked. The carrots were under cooked. One of the party had the only one choice on the menu (PB & V) We sent the food back and left and went to a Hall & Woodhouse, which had a better selection on the menu, the food looked attractive and was slightly cheaper. We will go back, at some point as we prefer independent food outlets and we like the atmosphere but probably not with friends as it was embarrassing. The owners did offer puddings on the house but we wanted lunch. Thx for trying but the menu was so limited that there wasn’t really an alternative.

This our favourite pub, staff are very welcoming, the food is outstanding, and the ambience of this 16th century pub is amazing, really lovely, and the special events and music bands are outstanding too, very lovely pub to visit.

Very cynical offering. Shell on prawns consiisting of 4 tiny prawns, hardly worth shelling, served on wet lettuce with half inch of water in the bottom of the glass. 2 thin slices of beef ( about 4/5 oz and bearing no resemblance to the picture on the website which, I would argue constitutes misrepresentation) , watery gravy, horrible roast potatoes and huge doughy Yorkshire pudding. Vegetables tasted of vinegar and cauliflower cheese side dish was indescribably awful. Also tasted weirdly of vinegar but no hint of cheese. Messily served without a serving spoon. Asked 6 times by staff if everything ok which is always a bad sign. So much was wrong it was no point complaining at the table as this is the responsibility of the owners not the table staff. This restaurant capitalizes on its historical credentials and location to get customers in but is totally failing to get the basics right. Far better places in West Sussex. For 2 of us the bill was over £80 including 2 beers and one glass of wine. Totally overpriced and extremely poor value. The table staff are very pleasant young people and are clearly trained to exercise charm but it is no substitute for good quality well presented food in generous portion size.
