So much to say about this place! First, the atmosphere of the restaurant is representative of a genuine Colorado cabin. A quiet, rustic environment is well paired with the tasteful and intimate setting. Next, the service was outstanding. We were frequently checked on by our hosts in a polite and courteous manner. They cleared our table quickly between courses and timed the food delivery such that we didn't have to wait more than a few minutes between the appetizers, main course and dessert. Our waiter, Kevin, was extremely professional and courteous. Finally, the food was outstanding. The restaurant makes most everything from scratch, including the condiments and drinks, and it adds a unique yet refreshing dimension to the menu. This extra effort adds to the amazing flavors found in the menu items. This restaurant is highly recommended for a special night out as it will likely exceed expectations on all elements that define a good restaurant, where so many others fall short on one of the important elements that make for a quality dining experience.

The Fort is a beautiful building. I loved all the art work hanging up. We sat in a round room with a lovely fireplace. The food was delicious and unique. The best part though was the courting flute player! We will definitely be returning!

We visited while attending the NWSS where we show our Angus cattle. We also have the luxury of eating our Angus beef so we might be a bit biased but for the price we paid for beef ribeye at the Fort. ...we were very disappointed with the taste and the preparation of their meat. Overall price for the dinner we were served was just too expensive.

We typically do a holiday family dinner when the kids are home for Christmas break. They had never been here before so we wanted to surprise them with something fun and new. Wonderful drinks & service. Would definitely return with family and friends.

We decided to try The Fort since it's a Colorado institution. There were pros and cons. The bison tenderloin was so tender and flavorful - definitely recommend it. The appetizer tray was really interesting and different. It consisted of tasty quacamole, pickled jalapeños stuffed with a peanut butter/mango mixture (loved it!), bison sausage, bison tongue (my husband's favorite) and Rocky Mountain oysters that were so breaded and deep fried that you could not tell what the taste was. A half portion was plenty for both of us. My husband had the three meat platter. The quail was delicious, the bison was tasty but not as tender as the cut I had, and the elk was so raw that my husband could not cut it to eat it. Very disappointing. We mentioned it to the beverage/dessert server, who said she would send our main server to us. Didn't happen. We ended the meal with the cast iron apple cobbler - not special at all. The flute player was great! Besides being musically talented, he is a story teller who spent time sharing the history of The Fort with us. We probably will not return for dinner - expensive and not great across the board. But we are glad we had the experience and may return in the summer when we can enjoy appetizers and wine on the patio.

A treat, as always. The bison eggs and bison tongue appetizers were fantastic, the game plate was delicious and unique, and the green chili mac'n'cheese... Well, we almost had to fight over the last few bites. :)

Delicious food. Had the game platter of the lamb, elk and duck. All very tasty... lamb was my favorite and cooked perfectly. We will definitely come back. Plenty of gluten free options and excellent service.

Second time at The Fort. Excellent meal, service and ambiance -- a fun place for the special dinner out. The quality was good and quantity of food generous, but the prices were quite high. They did let us split an entree which helped with both portion size and price.

The ambiance of The Fort is the main driving force to eat there. If you like Elk and Quail they do a good job of preparing it. If you're in the mood for a great steak (buffalo or otherwise), you're better off spending the same amount of money at a different steak house.

The Fort has a great location overlooking the lights of Denver. From the Trapper who greats you in the entry courtyard to the strolling flautist and waitstaff, the Fort's people make this a very memorable, relaxing and fun evening. Service is good but not at all rushed. There is time for conversation with your table mates as well as with staff. Ruth and Stormy were our server/assistant. They were very friendly, efficient, and made the evening for us! My wife had the buffalo ribs (even 4 was a huge portion) and I had the game plate with Elk, Buffalo, and Quail. These are large servings, so go easy on ordering additional sides unless you truly are hungry. For an appetizer, we would recommend the guacamole and chips - best we've had in ages.

We had known of this restaurant for years, but had forgotten the name. Recently, friends suggested to check it out and we finally made the drive up the hill. Unfortunately, while our experience was above average, the food was an altogether different situation. Rather than get into the details, let's just leave it that we had wished to have dined somewhere else, and will likely not be going back.

There is something fun about going to The Fort. But, Denver has become such a foodie haven - it is time for The Fort to up its game. We had dinner here Christmas Eve. My wife got what basically was turkey and wild rice soup. It was good, but not amazing. But, it was $28! I had the Buffalo prime rib, 8 oz. cut. Again, it was good, but I can get good prime at a lot of places now. And it was $44! So, I'm not sure we will be heading back here anytime soon. I really like it there, but I just can't justify the expense when I can get the same or better food for much less.

We have gone to the Fort on Christmas Eve for years. After Sam Arnold died, things went down hill for a couple of years. It is back again as one of our favorite holiday restaurants. This year the atmosphere was great; lots of groups celebrating the occasion helped make it lively and fun. The servers, while young, we're eager and helpful. The food, while very good, wasn't quite what we expected. We had prime rib prepared Gonzales style. There was too much fat marbling the meat. So, while most everything was fine, it all comes down to the food and how it is prepared. We'll be back in the future but a little wiser about our choices.

After numerous good experiences, I ran into a less than perfect experience at the Fort on Saturday Night. First of all, they were able to accommodate our party of 5 when the reservation was for 4, which was great. My problem was the meat. I ordered a Buffalo Ribeye for $64 and asked that it be cooked medium rare. (warm pink center). It was delivered raw in the middle. The wait person, who was excellent, took it back to the kitchen and about 5 minutes later came back to the table with the steak. She asked that I cut into it to check it out. When I did, it was still raw. So she took it back again. By the time it came back, I was finished with everything else on my plate and really wasn't hungry anymore for the steak.

They gave me a dessert on the house, but this seemed way too little for a disgruntled diner.

I can see a cooking problem one time, but not twice with the same steak, especially at a place that specializes in steaks. Anyway, we took the steak home and had it for breakfast the next morning with eggs.

I would still recommend the Fort, but this particular experience was not good. One of our party mentioned that for the amount of money we spent, next time we should go to the Flagstaff House in Boulder.

We have been to The Fort several times. Decided to have a pre-Christmas meal there with family. The timing was really off during our visit. Appetizers took 30 mins come out. Dinner was another hour. One woman in our party had to send her ribeye back twice as it was undercooked. The server took it off our bill. Over all the meal was "okay" for the price it could have been better. Perhaps just an off night. I would go back during the right circumstances.

Great! We were seated in a small room with a fireplace and only three tables. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Live carolers, who were excellent, dressed in Victorian style clothing. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. The only downside was the dessert. The ice cream and apple slices were frozen! For 12 bucks, definitely a no go!

The center of the dry aged ribeye was under cooked and a it was bit tough to chew the uncooked portion. The outer part of the steak that was cooked to order was excellent.

I was too far into the entree before I found that the center of the cut was rare. Hence, I did not tell the server. I took the uncooked portion home and heated it to a medium state and had it as a leftover the following day.

The appetizers salads and deserts were excellent! The other two guests found all of the courses to be excellent!

The excellence service complimented the experience as well.

We will come back.

The ambiance and location were nice. Good service, very unique place. But they overcooked the game meat, the elk and buffalo. This was very disappointing. I know how difficult it is not to overcook wild game because it is so lean. I ordered medium rare and was medium well, almost no pink. If you are charge a premium for these meats, please cook them properly.
