Fish & Chips
Food was incredible would defo recommend. Staff was lovely nothing was too much trouble
Food was awful if I’m honest. We’ve been before and it was outstanding. Went for a birthday meal and ordered 6 steak meals and they were all horrible. The steak cuts themselves were fatty and paying £34 a head plus sides would have expected a better evening. The chips were cold and had a funny taste to them , like they weren’t cooked properly and had been cooked in dirty oil. Not only were the chips funny , we ordered strongbox dark fruits and that had an awful taste to it and had to be sent back twice and even bar staff agreed after tasting. After spending £220 I would have expected so much better. Waiting for our drinks order took longer than it should have. The bar was empty so what the staff were doing is beyond me. The restaurant wasn’t even that busy. It was over all an horrendous evening with a lot of money spent. We will NOT be attending again. I will be making sure that other friends and family do not bother as it’s been a waste of time and money.
This was our first visit to the forge and it was fantastic. I’d go as far to say it’s the best steak we’ve tasted. The service was also top draw especially the young waiter Jack, who was very friendly and always smiling.
Highly recommend this place and we will most definitely be back.
Good food, good atmosphere - additional sauces dissapointing but not really needed as steak so tasty
Food was amazing as usual.
Bar staff were lovely waiting time was fine.
Waitress staff were quite rude.
We were very excited to have this dining experience, the booking process was excellent and the welcome by the staff couldn't of been better, however upon being seated we were serenaded by a group of around 12 people with party/rugby songs! In a small cozy room this proved a little OTT. Hey they were having a good time so no real problem. The real disappointment was the food, albeit it was good quality, the cooking method is a gimmick, part of cooking a steak is how you cook it, basting it in butter, maybe a garlic clove and a few herbs in the pan but what you get with this experience is a a dry piece of meat and uncooked mushroom. Paying top price for a meal you cook yourself without full access to facilities to produce a juicy succulent end product. I feel the whole concept is a gimmick and will not be re-visiting any time soon. One final note the staff were absolutely fantastic and a credit to the establishment, friendly, helpful and polite.
Steaks were delicious. Heating stones very effective and allows steak to be individuallt cooked. Restaurant was quite busy but excellent table service. Highly recommend.
This was a delayed birthday treat for a friend. A new dining experience for all the party. Really enjoyed it but found that by the time we had finished cooking the steak to how we liked it the sides had gone a little cold.
Overall a good experience but not sure if we would do it again.
Large portions so we couldn't finish both the starter and the main but we had a good go. The fillet steak was really good.
Absolutely disgusting service, I had booked a table for 1pm for 5 people, we ordered drinks and one of us had a starter, 1 hour and 40 mins later we still hadn’t had our food yet other people who came in after us had theirs! One of the staff said it was because we had a starter and another said it was because one of us had ordered pie, I spoke to the manager who was no help at all, he said well you can either carry on waiting or leave! We paid £49 for the drinks we’d had and left, my daughters graduation meal was ruined I am absolutely livid!
Very slow service, not enough staff, had to wait 1 hrs 30 minutes for meal, lot of people.e complaining about wait
Been before sat upstairs this time could not fault anything, the food, service and restrurant itself. For a steak would recommend experience The Forge, we took some people for the first time and we will all definitely be returning. Thanks for a great experience.
Food ok. Someone’s else drink poured over me. No one apologised. Not once did a waitress ask us if everything was ok and the only drink we managed to get served was the one we ordered at the bar when we walked in. Won’t be returning.
All excellent especially the food.
Main course took a while to arrive but I believe this was just pressure in the kitchen.
Lovely staff , relaxing and comfortable ,probably a little bit pricy but excellent steak
Fantastic steak and service was excellent all round !!
The staff were great , the food was great, big portions so you won't go home hungry. We thought it was very reasonably priced.
The service from arrival fabulous ordering simple the food arrived was delicious there is nothing I could say wrong about experience.
The only one thing that happened to spoil the evening what’s the fire alarms kept going off which made it very difficult to talk The staff did apologise Okay no explanation so it may have been the fault was a noisy environment to dining
Very clean. Friendly staff. Great food. Nice sized portions. Cannot wait to go
Food ok, one of our crowd did complain about his steak being too chewy, but it kind of fell on deaf ears. My salmon was nice, but it’s just too pricey.
No rush to go back.
Really enjoyed the whole experience. It was Halloween and the restaurant and staff played their part decorating the restaurant and dressing up themselves.
The atmosphere was great and were the staff.
We both had steak which comes on a hot stone and cooks in front of you. Both were good quality cuts. The food was great and the occasion of the meat cooking in front of you was excellent.
You have to do one thing if you know your steak, you will need to forgo the resting of the steak to add that flavour and enjoy the occasion of the steak cooking in front of your eyes.
Don’t worry the taste is still great. I will go here again very soon
Quite a slow service but expected on a Saturday night. Food was great staff were friendly.
Second time eating here and the Steaks were lovely yet again and love the black rock experience. The whole table mentioned that the chips were under cooked but everything else was lovely.
Staff were lovely and helpful but It was really busy and took a while for the food to be brought out, which actually doesn’t need much cooking as it’s cooked on the stones and some of our sides didn’t come out until 15 mins after we had started eating.
We also had to fetch the bottle of wine from the bar as we could see it sat there for a while and decided to pick it up ourselves as we were already half way though our meal. We understand it was a busy Saturday night but maybe a few more staff would have been a good idea.
Overall it was nice though. Thanks you.
Our first visit. Came for Our 2nd Wedding Anniversary. We were asked to move tables to allow a larger party to dine, which was fine! We actually preferred near the window upstairs. Friendly staff, nice service. Meal was perfect!
Will definitely be visiting.
The food was great and reasonably priced. However, we asked to add something to our main course when the starters came and it never came. When we asked for more drinks, these also didn’t come.
I’ve been to the forge four times now and it’s been fantastic every time
Been before pre-covid so knew what to expect - This experience was by far superior!
Booked a table at 6pm for my twin girls 14th birthday, we were running nearly two hours late as we underestimated how long they would be at the hair salon. When we contacted the Forge they were really friendly and understanding and managed to find us a table later on.
They got the girls a birthday card, which is a nice touch - it's little things like this that makes the difference!
The food (12oz Rump, 8oz Bistro Rump, Cajun Butterfly Chicken and 5 Bean Chilli) was superb! Even though I cant get my head around the fact that I'm paying to cook it myself on the stone :-)
I'm going to single out Kita (recently promoted manager) as she has a fantastic work ethos for the service industry.
Only criticism is that tips should go to the person who served you - not into a pot!
Great service food top quality price is great would recommend
If you love hot rare steak this is perfect, it’s also a proper meal with a good salad, chips and dip’s to go with. I’d opt for the blue cheese rather than the port and Stilton.
Excellent service, lovely steak but expensive
We have been trying to vary our dining g experiences so take turns picking a new restaurant. My son (11) wanted to try the hot rocks so I checked the reviews and booked online for 4 people. It was our first venture into Derby as we live out of town. Sadly since I didn't read the terms and conditions (who does???) my son was not allowed to order a hot rock, so we didn't get off to a great start. (Can't you make this information easier to find or maybe set up a waiver system?) We accepted the situation and ordered, looking forward to our food. The starters were a little slow arriving, that was fine, we enjoyed them and then looked forward to our mains...which didn't arrive, we asked the waitress who gave us a long winded excuse which didn't make alot of sense. We waited some more and she eventually came back and said 5-10 mins. In the meantime many tables were served before us (I am pretty sure they all had arrived after us). We gave it the 10 minutes we had been promised then walked out. In total, we waited a minimum of 45 minutes from when our starters were cleared but probably much longer. I am 42 years old and I have never walked out of a restaurant before. We paid for what we had eaten and drunk, spoke to an assistant manager and left. Disappointed is an understatement, we don't go out more than once a month and don't have an endless pot of money. Needless to say we won't be returning.
Amazing food and great service will definitely come back again
First time experience & I have to say it was fantastic.
The stone cooked steaks we all went for was great.
Great quality steaks as you'd expect
The sides are generous and although the sauce looks small it is also a generous amount and both of ours had a beautiful flavour
Absolutely gorgeous place! Best steak I’ve ever had :)
Food excellent service was good someone singing in the pub next door was far to loud abs massively out of tune
What a disappointing evening! Arrived early for our table but was able to sit straight down which was good ordered meal took 15 minutes for drinks to arrive, had to ask for a Prosecco glass as was given wine glass, starters arrived with no side plate had to ask and attitude of staff was pretty poor lots of members of staff just stood around.
Mains arrived after nearly 45 minute wait, no instruction on how the hot plate works etc chips was cold and we had no steak knife I had to go to the bar and was given a small knife and the response from the member of staff was ‘this is all I’ve got..’ complained to manager who was very understanding but it was a disaster from the start and to think we spent over £200 it was NOT worth it at all! Very disappointing felt sorry for the good members of staff who was trying their best but unfortunately the meal was not up to standard for that price! And to top it off I had requesting the booking was for a special occasion and it wasn’t until we complained they realised it was for a special occasion money was taken off the bill but still for £200 can’t believe we actually paid it!
Outstanding service so attentive but not intrusive it was busy but that did not stop the staff! drinks served promptly and food was served quickly and was mouth watering!! great place to go and we will be back and would recommend to friends and family!!!
Great quality steak and the staff was amazing. Very clean venue with amazing atmosphere
