Food excellent service was good someone singing in the pub next door was far to loud abs massively out of tune
What a disappointing evening! Arrived early for our table but was able to sit straight down which was good ordered meal took 15 minutes for drinks to arrive, had to ask for a Prosecco glass as was given wine glass, starters arrived with no side plate had to ask and attitude of staff was pretty poor lots of members of staff just stood around.
Mains arrived after nearly 45 minute wait, no instruction on how the hot plate works etc chips was cold and we had no steak knife I had to go to the bar and was given a small knife and the response from the member of staff was ‘this is all I’ve got..’ complained to manager who was very understanding but it was a disaster from the start and to think we spent over £200 it was NOT worth it at all! Very disappointing felt sorry for the good members of staff who was trying their best but unfortunately the meal was not up to standard for that price! And to top it off I had requesting the booking was for a special occasion and it wasn’t until we complained they realised it was for a special occasion money was taken off the bill but still for £200 can’t believe we actually paid it!
Outstanding service so attentive but not intrusive it was busy but that did not stop the staff! drinks served promptly and food was served quickly and was mouth watering!! great place to go and we will be back and would recommend to friends and family!!!
Great quality steak and the staff was amazing. Very clean venue with amazing atmosphere
Another meal that always delivers quality, empty plate yet again. Best steakhouse in the Midlands. Fact.
Very nice experience, steaks are huge and the heated rock is quite a novelty. The price we thought was a little high for Derby and the extras are quite expensive but overall a most enjoyable evening.
Amazing restaurant. Food is the best in derby. Cocktails are beautiful and staff can’t do enough for you. Would recommend this place to anyone.
Went for a birthday meal and it was excellent - the food was delicious and really enjoyed the experience of the black rock which we hadn’t had before - the steaks were mouthwatering and the chips amazing! Only marked down as we didn’t get the water we asked for but that was the only complaint - overall a thoroughly enjoyable evening 😊
Super food in a great environment. Good service and a very enjoyable experience. Would certainly return
To get to the upstairs restaurant you have to pass through a narrow corridor where. The toilets are, doors were open- horrible.
The steak pie and triple cooked chips arrived already swimming in gravy, everything was soggy and overwhelmed by the strong flavour of the gravy.
Overall totally disappointing.
10/10 in every aspect. Amazing quality food, great service, no complaints.
Food was nice and the cooking it on the stone was a fun idea but at the end of the day it’s a gimmick. If I wanted to cook my own steak I could have done that myself at home for far less money. I was definitely overcharged for what I got.
But what really let my experience down was the service and the attitude of the waitresses. We had to wait 2 hours before we managed to get our main which is absurd. During these two hours not one waitress came over to apologise for the delay there were more bothered about having a gossip at the bar. They drop peoples food as they were taking it to them and didn’t pick it up.
I was really looking forward to my meal as it was a birthday night out for my partner and we were fairly disappointed. We will not be returning or recommending this restaurant
Poor staff kept getting food orders mixed up. I received my food 10 mins before my husbands and we had to ask about his food and where it was. Took along time to receive our drinks aswell and tables around us took along time to be cleared too. Husband said that the men’s toilet were disgusting too. Food was not as good as before but I suspect that was down to rushing and poor waiter service. Overall we don’t plan on coming back.
We booked a table for 6:30. When we arrived we found that they had allocated an outside table which is not what we booked. They did then find us a table inside.
The staff need better training. Every question we asked (to more than one member of staff) involved them going away to find the answer.
We ordered venison. Afte 20 minutes we were told that they couldn't find any! It should not take 20 minutes to realise that an item is not available.
We then re-ordered. After we had been in the restaurant almost an hour, there was still no sign of any food arriving, so we left.
The noise level in the restaurant was unpleasant and oppressive
We would have allocated no stars, but this isn't an option.
Great place, great service, lovely food.
Definitely will comeback
Fabulous food, and the service was excellent I couldn't fault them at all.
Beautiful food great value will definitely be returning.
With the shared starter side plate should be supplied to allow you to take what you want without spilling some on the table or yourself when taking a mouthful.
Our third visit and the food and concept of finishing the cook yourself still doesn't wear thin, lovely tasty food although the onion rings were rather tasteless.
The service however was a total let down, staff were all very friendly but tables that arrived after us were served and finished eating before our mains arrived and I had to ask where our food was three times, then when it came to clearing away, two plates were taken then ten minutes later a different server asked if we had finished before clearing the rest. I can't even say they were particularly busy.
That said and rant over, give the place a try the staff are friendly the food is tasty and we would definitely go back again. Prices are similar to Miller and Carter but the hot stones make it a bit different.
Terrible service. Poor value for money. First visit and won’t return. Waited over an hour between our starter and main (ridiculous considering you cook your own steak). The starter was missing items and these never arrived, despite asking the waiting staff. Noisy and cold (doors and windows open due to all the smoke). Overpriced and disappointing.
Excellent food, friendly atmosphere and attentive service
Food was really nice but service mixed. Wasn’t aware that children couldn’t eat from the main menu due to hot plates and this wasn’t made clear before booking. Would have considered other options otherwise. Menu was therefore quite limited. Drinks took a long time to arrive and bill needed to be asked for 3 times which wasn’t ideal.
Fantastic place, comfortable, friendly and food was amazing.
Lovely food and friendly staff definitely recommend
Whilst this has all the markings of a food experience, it somewhat loses out on the lack of direction when dining upstairs. Its a nightmare to go to and from the toilet down an extremely narrow passage where staff are forced to wait with burning hot food for you to pass.
The food itself was fair, the steak on the stone is a nice idea which allows you to cook your meat to your required liking, The chips however were not really on par as they seemed mildly under done, this was evident in their lack of crispy coating and pale complexion.
The seating area in which our table was had the benefit of open windows but even still we were baking hot. The service was excellent and really did make us feel well tended to. Hosting a nice selection of Craft ales (local to Derby) was a nice touch.
I would say in all this place would be more suited to a drinking establishment that offered snacks as opposed to an eatery that would charge £50 for chateaubriand, as the accompanying dishes just fall short of the beautiful cuts of meat available.
The starters were average, we all had steak which in all fairness was really good. The down side was the fact we waited around 45 minutes for the starter and probably the same for the main. The waitress was good and polite but the speed of service was really poor. No discount was offered and I felt the overall experience wasn’t great.
Underwhelmed and overpriced. The waitress we had was lovely. However, we waited so long for the food that I ended up not being hungry anymore, the vegetables that came with the catch of the day (swordfish) seemed undercooked and they were cold, was brought out a mushroom as a side instead of the mushroom sauce I had requested. Wine was good! My partners steak started off brilliantly, however ended up leaving quite a bit as there was a huge string of fat, not something I would expect for such an expensive steak, however he still enjoyed what he did eat. The Halloumi fries seemed stale and I’ve had much better from cheaper restaurants. The experience was enjoyable due to good wine and good music, however I would not return.
The food was incredible and we both really enjoyed it. The first time we went was in August. And my y loves steak so we had to come back for his birthday ☺️
The only down side was to see that the prices of the food had gone up so much! In the space of a month the Fillet steak had gone up £7!
Fantastic steak and fantastic service would definitely recommend
Love this place! Food is incredible and staff are very friendly
The wait for our starters was ridiculous. The food did not fit it’s description either my partner and I ordered sticky chilli prawns which came out as limp prawns in a very watery slightly spicy chilli stew…
The mains were chucked together, the chips had clearly been sat there too long and the waitress didn’t even know what came with the foods on the menu. Overall not worth it
Very slow service for food. Table booked for 7 and main meal came out at 9pm, waited 20 mins did a drink, the staff were very friendly but the food wasn’t as brilliant as it’s been previously. It appeared there was not enough staff.
Great food, expensive but worse it!
Both our steaks very fatty, never asked if everything was ok. Not enough room to cook the raw mushroom as well, did not stay hot enough to cook everything.
Lovely, took a while for starters though. But apart from that was good
Very nice :)
Only criticism not much choice of beers
Dreadful steak, difficult to cut never mind chew.
Did not appreciate young waiter telling me it was because I'd chosen ribeye.
Some staff obviously sorry that we had a poor experience but then had to argue to get an acceptable reduction on the bill. Still paid more than it was worth.
Not good at all.
Blacksmiths Yard and the Forge are in a really lovely place in Derby. Food and customer service were great
Fantastic food, in perfect surroundings. We went on a Sunday afternoon with only one waitress working, the food was worth the wait. Starter for 1 was enough for 2 and as for the onion rings! Wow.
