The Michelin Starred, Fordwich Arms, located in the smallest town in England, dates as far back as 1828. Draped in ivory and wisteria in the most picturesque location over looking the Great River Stour, the perfect setting for an idyllic summers lunch. Boasting open fireplaces for the colder winter months, creating a cosy and welcoming ambiance.
Daniel and Natasha Smith took over The Fordwich Arms in 2017 and were awarded a Michelin Star within the first year, as well as being in the top 100 gastro pubs in the UK, multiple culinary awards, notable wine awards and various other accredits, a testament to their hair work and talent.
The seasonal menus focus on provenance, showcasing the best of local Kentish ingredients, sourced directly from local farms and producers. Dan's cooking is accomplished yet approachable, served in a relaxed pub environment with a choice of a la carte or tasting menus.

Another fantastic lunch at the Fordwich Arms, especially when I could sit on the shady terrace overlooking the River Stour on a sunny day. The service was on point as usual and the food was delicious with great wine recommendations from the Sommelier.

The food was phenomenal - a real gastronomic extravaganza. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The Maitre d was very welcoming when we first arrived as was the gentleman behind the bar who chatted to us as we had pre dinner drinks. All the waiters throughout service were very knowledgeable about what they were serving and also friendly. The one thing that let the experience down was as we were leaving once we'd paid. We stopped at the bar and asked the Maitre d for our jackets which he'd taken away and hung up at the start of the meal. As we approached the bar to ask he had his back to us along with another lady - I think they were maybe cashing up. Anyway he asked the lady to go and get our jackets then immediately turned his back to us and didn't even say goodbye as we left. Incredibly rude and kind of left a sour taste. It felt like we've got your money, now we don't care.

This is a Gastro Pub of the highest level. For a quieter experience, choose the dining room rather than the bar. For ambience, the bar wins. Food is exceptional.

I honestly cannot fault our recent visit here. Everything was just perfect. The food was beautifully presented and served. Wine was perfectly paired and the staff were attentive at all times. We took the set menu, which was excellent value for money. I’ve booked again already!

We chose the Tasting Menu plus a couple of oysters each. Every course was a winner. The presentation was gorgeous and the flavours were sublime. A surprising highlight was the jalapeño granita served with the chalk stream trout. We enjoyed the local English wines, both still and sparkling from Simpsons.

We booked for 4pm on a Sunday. There was no one outside but a few diners inside. The food and service was exceptional. We ordered the Sunday special. The canapés meat and vegetables were the best I have had for a long time.

We had an excellent experience as our birthday celebration choosing the tasting menu. The food was excellent and flawless, and the wine pairing absolutely spot on. Our reception was very welcoming and the service was superb. The setting of Fordwich is beautiful and the restaurant itself is just an excellent example in the area and very well presented. We will definitely be looking for another opportunity/excuse to enjoy the hospitality at the Fordwich Arms. Next time we are going to allow some extra time to enjoy their surrounding countryside by adding a walk in.
