The Florentine Ratings and Reviews
We work downtown and went for a birthday lunch. The service and timing outstanding. Was expensive for our options of salad and soup however. They brought dessert for my friend and her birthday celebration which was lovely. She did not like her appetizer of Figs which was not as described on the menu.
Chosen for a nice setting and quiet for conversation and it delivered on that.
Would recommend for business lunch on expense account.
We had Sunday brunch at the Florentine. We were seated promptly and once we ordered, our food came in a timely manner. I ordered 2 eggs which came with plenty of sides. The scrambled eggs were moist and beautifully plated along with salad greens, bacon, 3 roasted potatoes , and toast. The other two orders were buttermilk pancakes which came with a lemon curd sauce, blueberry sauce, syrup and granola. Sauces were tasty. All in all, great experience.
We went to Florentine for a pre-theatre dinner. The cocktails were excellent (Hemingway in Paris for me and Peanut butter infused Old Fashioned for my husband). We had the mozzarella appetizer and my husband had the Bronzini entree and I had the proscuitto wrapped salmon. Excellent food. Our server Jelena was amazing and offered to place a half order of pasta just so we could taste the home-made pasta. Great service, excellent food, beautiful interior, quiet and romantic. A bit overpriced but the theater district always is.
Limited menu due to Marathon.
Risotto had no protein or vegetables in it. Either would have improved it. It had some spice that was little sticks. Lots of them. Good thing I love risotto. Pepsi products? Really?! Ew.
Server was FABULOUS. Restaurant is GORGEOUS.
We were visiting from out of town and were so excited to try their food. But when we got there we found that they had a limited menu due to the marathon. Not quite sure why because they were not busy at all. But we were pretty disappointed because we couldn't order anything we wanted to order. We stayed because we figured it would be hard to find something else last minute on a Saturday night.
The service was great. Our waiter was friendly and gave good recommendations for wine and even brought us each an extra glass to try. So I don't fault him for anything but the food itself was very lackluster.
We both had the Bolognese and could barely find any meat. We ordered meatballs to try and add to it but the meatballs weren't even good so we didn't even want to finish them. I think the waiter noticed that we were disappointed so they didn't charge us for the meatballs.
I just expected everything to be better quality for the price. I would consider giving it another try on a regular night but there are so many places in Chicago that I imagine are better.
The service was definitely good though and the flavors were good just lacking in overall quality and not worth the price.
The food was good, not great, but the positive review ends there. We ordered an appetizer and entrees. Our waiter let us know it’d be a little bit of a wait but it was a wait. We waiting 75+ minutes for the entrees which were brought out without a word from our waiter. Seemed like the staff was slow and everyone was getting frustrated. I won’t be going back.
Excellent preparations of many different options. My wife and I are eating carb free these days so did not try the homemade pasta (to our chagrin). We found many other options including sea food and many nice antipasti options. Good wine list, medium expensive. We liked this dining experience.
Delicious food. However, when reservations are made for 2 in advance I expect to be seated in the main dining area not a side room opened up with 4 tables. Unacceptable! Was the reason due to two women in attendance? Extremely upsetting and embarrassing. Will not return.
Overall, the food was ok. Ordered the watermelon salad and was sorely disappointed - the watermelon lacked any sweetness. For my mains, I had the steak which was also average. Thankfully, the mash saved the steak. As for the dessert, I had the doughnuts which would have been amazing if it wasn't overly coated with cinnamon sugar. The pear jam that came with the doughnuts were thankfully on point. After giving my feedback about how sorely disappointed I am with the watermelon salad, the restaurant was kind enough to take the dessert off the final bill which I appreciated.
