Permanently Closed - The Flintridge Proper
The place was closed permanently - we found out when we got there in time for our reservation. Closing must have happened very recently, but a heads up would still have been nice after the reservation was confirmed via open table only the day before
ITS OUT OF BUSINESS!!!!!
We got to the restaurant and it was closed. Permanently.
service and food is too inconsistent. not my first choice for a meal.
We have been here on several occasions and enjoy ourselves. Tonight was a terrible experience. The service staff was untrained, did not clear the table and mixed up the entree order. When one entree arrived it was entirely different than what was ordered. The server left the other order (salmon) and after 10 minutes sitting on the table we asked the server to take it back until the other order was ready. The patron next to us had order salmon, and guess what, she got the salmon that had been on our table (very distinct shape of the piece of fish). When a my entree arrived and the salmon reappeared, it was a different piece, ice cold and raw inside. It was sent back to be cooked. The pasta dish was gummy and tasteless.
Hope management gets the restaurant in order. Food and service have suffered.
Very nice comfort food. Tomato soup, kale salad with sliced lemon rind, and cheese steak sandwich with horseradish. Cozy atmosphere. Felt like we stumbled on a special find. Will return.
This is my third time at the Flintridge Proper. I love their gin flights and creative drinks. Unfortunately this experience left something to be desired. We made reservations on Open Table. When we arrived we were told their Open Table was not working and they almost didn't seat us. Once seated we ordered drinks pretty quickly but sat for 30 minutes waiting for them. I've also had my drink before and it didn't taste right. We ordered a variety of food after being told 3 entree items were out. Unfortunately my dad wanted one of the out of stock entrees. He settled for the double cut pork chop which is generally good. An hour after we ordered and have been waiting someone finally came to tell us the apple chutney was out for the pork chops and would we like peppercorn something or other. We are starving and ask them to bring us what ever they have. We had an almost 2 hour dinner and it wasn't because we were being slow and leisurely.
It could be so much better. The location is prime, the food is fine, the drinks are good - but oh, the service. I know I've heard this before but I've never experienced it before and now that I have - I'll never go back. My friends and I had a show at 7 so we made reservations for 5:30. Their "system was down" so they almost didn't give us our table! Then the drinks took a while. Then the waitress took a while. Then, even after we told her we were short on time and only ordered quick items... the food never arrived. Like never. We left and went to the show hungry. Next time we're meeting up in Old Town Pasadena at 5pm - 'tis better to eat early than to never eat at all!!!
Disappointing. Burger was significantly under cooked and had to be sent back. No apology from server or restaurant or discount on bill. Ceiling was leaking from rain. This restaurant has great potential, but disappointed again....
What a great neighborhood joint! We had a delightful table with a really good server. Cocktails (I had bourbon, he had gin) were wonderful and came with alacrity. The rib eye was cooked to perfection, as was the salmon, and the appetizers were delicious. Can’t wait to go back!
Date with long-time GOOD friends who had never experienced the Proper. Everyone tried a cocktail new to them, and we were all pleased. We shared a Charred Artichoke before our entrees...this was a big hit! We also shared an order of the house made chips and dip. Dinner was excellent! There was a Rib Eye, Scottish Salmon, Branzino and Short Ribs at our table. We tend to let each other sample our choices. Everyone was happy! There were several beers to accompany dinner. And we wrapped it all up with a couple of fried pies. I've never had pie ala mode that was more scrumptious! We enjoyed the live music, but it was a little loud and competed with our conversation. However, we had a fabulous time and hope to do it again very soon! Our server was Jessica...from the moment we ordered our drinks to the very end, she saw to our every whim...excellent service, with a smile and very engaging personality. She made our experience perfect!
Came for a birthday brunch. They were not prepared for customers. It took 30 minutes to get iced tea. Meals did not come out together. Most plates were missing something. Desserts were great. Waitress was overwhelmed, but worked hard and was very friendly
Love this place and everything about it!!!
Very nice dinner and great food
I was disappointed in Proper for the first time in years. It was noisy, the lights were too bright, and music was loud. The short rib was tough. I won’t be going back.
The Proper has had good food and great drinks since it opened. But it's always had three problems. 1 - sewer gas from the restrooms. half the time you are in there your stomach is sick before the food comes. 2 - the bar area furniture. every chair, seat, bar stools etc. is stained, broken, worn or just disgusting. 3 - the service. if you go to the proper, you are going to want to sit in the loungy furniture, which is now all worn out and stained, but if you do, your going to have a tough time getting a server's attention.
We were seated promptly, we arrived 15 minutes early. Carlos, our server, was prompt and courteous. The food and service was excellent!
Service was impressive and their appetizers and bread are both tasty. However, we were a bit disappointed with the main courses and it took awhile for the food to come out. It is also a bit pricey for what you get.
My husband and I discovered this little place through Groupon. We were not disappointed. We sat in the bar area which has a very comfy pub atmosphere. We were there for brunch so we didn’t get to sample the dinner menu, but the brunch was very good. We are not big gin drinkers, but we were intrigued by their large selection of gin. We each had a couple of their handcrafted cocktails and they were very good. We had The deviled eggs for an appetizer. They were surprisingly good, topped with a small piece of fried chicken and housemade pickled onions. My husband had the Proper Burger and I had the Croque Monsieur. Both were amazing!
Our waitress was wonderful . She was friendly, helpful, and attentive.
We can’t wait to go back for dinner. I highly recommend it!
The food was probably healthy, but everything was singularly bland. We had the salmon burger, tomato basil soup and Brussels sprouts. Had to load everything up with salt and pepper to get any flavor. Too bad. Service was great.
It was lovely
Oysters were fantastic and in ample supply. The drinks crafted by Sebastian were amazing and on point for requesting creative cocktails. The food was spot on and delicious. Ambiance was a little more local diner feel and staff were very kind/helpful.
One thing I didn't like is that drinks were served as they were created instead of as a table. Made it a little awkward to stare at a drink while the other was being crafted.
All in all it was great. I've been here before and won't be my last time. The 200+ gin bar (that's claimed to be the largest in North America is actually second to White Chapel found in San Francisco) keeps me coming back.
