The Fish Market Ratings and Reviews
We had a fun, delightful waiter but the food did not meet our expectations (for all four of us). My fish (Opah) was overcooked and dry and the vegetables were not hot. At best the food was mediocre. However the bread was wonderful. The restaurant is in a wonderful location but I'll leave it to the tourists. There are better seafood restaurants in town.
Was very pleased and excited to have such a good dinner at a reasonable price. Had wonderful fish dinner and everyone was happy with their dinner. Service very good....refreshing when you have a good waitress who appears to enjoy her job. Definitely will recommend and return on our next visit to San Diego.
Love the easy online way of making reservations. Food and service was excellent, as always. We were celebrating a birthday and the serving of cake for our birthday guy was appreciated to end our dinner in a fitting way to celebrate. We enjoyed the inside window table seating with the beautiful view. Only problem was trying to find parking without paying valet. We often enjoy meeting with a group of our family at your restaurant on some special occasions, but more often than not the parking is a real problem and with several cars the valet can become pricey.
I loved the fresh local swordfish and my wife thought the salmon was excellent. Crabcakes were terrific. service was excellent. We were there early because we missed lunch and had a very nice seat by the window. Reservations are recommended. They were already backed up with a 20+ minute wait at 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon.
We had friends from out of town visiting and they wanted seafood, so we chose the Fish Market since it was on the water. It's a nice place and the service was very good but the food was mediocre. My hubby and I split the trout and chose double veggies. The veggies were OK but the trout was a bit bland and it was not a substantial piece of fish. Poor value for the price in my opinion. One of our friends ordered the lobster tail and wasn't impressed with that either because it was overcooked and "rubbery". Since we were connecting with long distance friends we stayed to catch up. One of the servers eventually came over and, apologizing profusely, said that they had a reservation for our table and offered to buy us all a drink if we would be willing to move to the bar. We did move and found a nice little table next to a fireplace. We enjoyed our drinks on the house and nobody bothered us the rest of the evening. I thought it was a classy move to give us free drinks for having to move. That's great customer service.
While visiting San Diego last week on a cruise 🚢 I decided I wanted Fish in a nice environment that was walking distance from the ship 🚢 so we chose The Fish Restaurant located across from the Midway The restaurant sits over the water so offers nice views of San Diego Bay and Coranado The service was slow and our fish was dry My halibut was almost enateable and the coleslaw tasted like Vinegar After paying $100 for this meal with no alcoholic drinks 🍹 I went back to the ship 🚢 and had the best pizza 🍕 at sea
We had a party of 12 for lunch after visiting the USS Midway. Food was OK. Service very good. Caesar Salad was VERY disappointing. Nothing more than just some lettuce with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese and tasteless croutons. Also the Boston Clam Chowder was too thick and had maybe pieces of one clam. All sauce and potatoes.
Not a fan of this place - I was surprised the reviews are as high as they are, although granted I went there for lunch so maybe the chefs working at that time are not the A team. Both of my dishes (scallops and swordfish) were undercooked. I hate doing it, but I had to send both back because I was afraid I would get sick. The sauce on the scallops was cold when it came out the first time, although the flavor was nice. The swordfish (when it was cooked) didn't taste super fresh, but was alright - it almost seemed like it was previously frozen due to the taste and texture. The lettuce in my wedge salad was wet. The roasted potatoes were baked, but did not have any roasted flavor. Thervice was ok, but not outstanding. Disappointed overall, and definitely not worth the over $50 I paid for the food.
The Fish Market is the place to go for great tasting fresh fish. We had the red clam chowder, a treat with the spinach salad with warm dressing. Very good.
We had one of the fresh fish of the day and it was cooked to perfection, not dry, just right.
Our server, Rueben, made the meal complete with his attentive service.
Always a treat to go to the Fish Market!
