The hamburger was like a brick and the fries soft and mushy. The shiitake mushrooms and kale dish was overcooked, and black and very very salty. They did not resemble vegetables. Not the Fireplace I remember as I have been there a few times.

I have always thought of the Fireplace's burgers as the best around, but this time, it wasn't cooked just right and the roll was too hard. Also we tried the sprouts appetizer and it was undercooked so not easy to eat. But we will try it again.

We enjoyed The Fireplace after not having been for several years. It's still friendly, comfortable with good service and wonderful food, nearer the comfort zone than haute cuisine (which is why we went.) The hamburger is indeed outstanding, but so are other dishes.

I have dined at the Fireplace many times over the years. The ambience and decor, lovely. The food is excellent, as are the drinks. My only issue is with the fact that there are too many tables, causing serious crowding. Removing a couple of tables (yes, seating fewer customers) would improve the experience immensely.

The food is consistently tasty at the Fireplace but this may have to be the last time I go there. After placing our orders we saw a baby mouse scampering around the dining room. I'm sure the baby mouse was frightened and didn't know where to go. I am also sure, having worked in restaurants as a kid, that there are mice in eating establishments. I don't want to SEE them. It's just yucky. We stayed at the restaurant, ate our meal, the manager comped our appetizers and apologized profusely but it's still a gross thing to see a mouse in the restaurant.

I love The Fireplace! The food is always wonderful--locally sourced for many items and creatively prepared. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu and makes their guests feel comfortable and at home. The Fireplace is a neighborhood gem, but worth the drive if you're not a local!

This was a disappointing lunchtime experience at a neighborhood favorite. The Fireplace could use some sprucing up: menus were wrinkled and some were soiled; service was very slow and not terribly attentive (down one staffer, apparently); menu hasn't changed in quite a long time--favorites are welcome, but seasonal inspirations would be a nice addition. The owners of this restaurant are great members of the community, so we'll continue to support The Fireplace, with hopes for a tad more attention to detail.

great ambiance and cozy atmosphere. good food selection. even the pickiest of eaters can find something to enjoy. the service is good and the food is prepared well. some dishes are under-seasoned but we prefer to add more salt than to have over-seasoning. good wine selection. we went to celebrate an occasion and it was a perfect spot.

We had a relative in town from Europe and wanted to take her to a casual, but "fit for a foodie" restaurant. We all ordered different things and all were very good. Our waiter, Javier, was very attentive and had a sense of humor, which was appreciated by all. The food came out rather fast and all at once, which I'm still wondering how they did it!

We met our daughter at The Fireplace since she lives in Brookline. Only 2 of us had drinks, an appetizer and two entrees. My daughter and split one and we both had salads. The bill was over $100. Thought it was too pricy. The tables are too close together and we sat near the front door. It may be better on the upper level. The food was good but was not enough variation on the menu and not enough variations

Lunched here and my friend had the scrumptious "normal" burger with an abundance of french fries and I had the grilled shrimp over charred corn and salad greens. Both were excellent. The real standout was the duck 3 ways--all homemade and delectable! Finished the meal with a delicious cup of organic coffee. I would definitely return to lunch or dine. The chef, kitchen crew and waitstaff are fantastic!

This restaurant almost closed, and there was such an uproar from regular patrons that they stayed in business. Thank goodness. We've eaten here a number of times and it's always excellent. This time: corn fritters, a spinach salad with bacon, steak tartare, mussels, crab cakes were all first-rate.

We were able to be seated quite quickly and our server was very attentive and took our order quickly. However the portion sizes for the meals were very small and lacked creativity in flavor, for the price. Desserts were pretty good, ice cream was very delicious. Overall, it was an ok experience.

The fireplace has the best burgers, cooked to perfection with good fries.
everything else is moderately expensive. Hard to wrap my head around a pork chop for 36 bucks.
Chicken is high 20's.
but it is always tasty.
the bartender is a great guy. Very attentive.

The food is just great. Our waitress seemed a little tired but the assistant (I assume she buses) was great, She did most of the work. I went at 1 PM on a Sunday but they wee out of what I guess were popular items at the time. I opted for the veggie omelets (I am not a vegetarian( and it was great

Worst meal ever. Took my parents here for their 35th anniversary. Waited an hour to get our meal. I ordered a pasta in pesto sauce, which came in a butter cream sauce instead. Waiter even confirmed it was a pesto sauce with the menu description. Couldn't even complain because wait staff was few and far. Butter cream sauce actually makes me sick so I was unable to eat my meal. I will never go here again for any meal. Their excuse was someone didn't show up for work. Place was packed and no one had food. I was 1 or 3 people complaining on how long wait was

My parents were in town for dinner and can be a little hard to please. The staff at the Fireplace was amazing! My mother has a gluten allergy and they anticipated all of her needs. They both left so happy. The food was excellent and the staff was just wonderful.

A little mix up with entree being served before first course for one of us and when time for both entrees to be served there was a mix up. First entree with adjustment served and had to wait for second dinner entree to be cooked so had first person eat while food warm. Fish was a little over cooked.

Will come back as have not had issues in the past.

I have eaten here several times a year over the past 3 years, and each year the quality of the service and the overall professionalism of the restaurant decreases. For example, each of the last 3 times I have had a reservation and consistently told we could not sit in the back and told we would have to sit in the tables near the bar, usually reserved for customers with no reservations.

The staff is friendly but not as experienced as in the past, the service is rushed to increase sittings and the food is good but average, loosing the specialness it had in previous years

I love the Fireplace! I wanted somewhere nice but not too fancy to bring my parents while they were visiting me for the weekend. We had an excellent waiter and the food was delicious. I ordered a cocktail - the New England Mule - and it was absolutely perfect. I noticed how nice the bar area was and will definitely be returning with friends. Highly recommend!

Very much enjoyed my lunch at Fireplace. The blueberry soup was delicious- fresh and fruity without being overly sweet or creamy. I really enjoyed the salad I got, which had greens, mozzerella, tomato, avocado, and roasted corn. My friend got a delicious salad with quinoa and blackberries and the vegetable grilled cheese. We split the ricotta cheesecake jar, which was the perfect balance of sweet and fruity. The salted caramel popcorn was the perfect topper for the jar, which had all the textures and flavors you'd want in a dessert. Great meal and great atmosphere. Service was a little slow though, certainly a more leisurely lunch than I anticipated.

I have been here many times, as I think the food is excellent. However, on this trip it appeared that the staff were all new and/or in training and as a result ,the service was terrible. Hard to know if it was miscommunication with the kitchen and the wait staff or both, independently, but if the food wasn't so good I would be disinclined to return
