Seated right away even though we were 20 min early. Great, friendly waiter. Delicious fish chowder with apple smoked bacon, unusually fresh tasting and good. Brussels sprouts starter very tasty. Had the blood orange and tangerine salad as a main dish, refreshing and well-dressed. White sangria also quite good.
As good as always.
Absolutely our favorite restaurant in Brookline and certainly one of the top in Greater Boston. Rotating menu based on locally sourced ingredients never disappoints. Waitstaff is glad to answer questions and seem genuinely happy to be working here. We chose a cheese/charcuterie appetizer and our waiter helped us pick a perfect pairing. Braised Short Ribs are melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Nice winter cocktail and mocktail list to accompany food. Perfect New England experience with something everyone can enjoy on the menu.
we had fantastic service and the food was outstanding. fresh and extremely delicious!
it is one of my favorite spots to meet friends, vibrant but not too loud!
Food is good but overpriced. Service was slow and forgetful of specific requests.
Been coming here a long time. Food was fine. The problem is they cram too many tables into too small a space. We were bumped when people at the adjoining table tried to sit down. And the noise level is too high so you can't carry on a conversation - especially is one party is a little hard of hearing.
Great salad options, including a warm salad, perfect for cold New England winter days! The only negative is how cold the ladies room is... Otherwise, a perfect 10!
I was excited when my friends chose a restaurant down the street from my house. Once again The Fireplace did not disappoint. I love the break and we all enjoyed our meals. I ordered the scallops and was impressed!
I have been to The Fireplace before and enjoyed it. I was in a party of 4 and we all loved our food and drinks. We shared the mushrooms, steak tartar, pomegranate salad, kale and goat cheese salad, and brussel sprouts. Everything was delicious!
Our entrees were the short rib, pumpkin ravioli, 1/2 chicken, and duck 2 ways. Everything was very good. Our server was very accommodating with a couple substitution requests. The portions were generous and the short rib and chicken were cooked perfectly. My friend loved the duck.
We could stop there so we shared 3 desserts. The MINI VANILLA SUGAR DONUTS, CHOCOLATE FUDGE CAKE, and PUMPKIN BREAD PUDDING. They were all well worth it!
Free parking, T access, fireplace uses real wood, corn chowder was excellent
Delicious brunch and good service! Definitely one of my fav place for brunch!
Love the Fireplace, my girl is Gluten sensitive and they make her the happiest
Went here to celebrate a birthday. Great time - excellent food, good wine, great service, and free parking behind the restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyed the mussels, skillet mushrooms, cauliflower ravioli, and short ribs. Too bad they only have one fireplace.
looks like they got a new menu... very interesting selection of options, all well prepared. Enjoyed the mushroom appetizer which was creative and flavorful. The two ways duck was generous portion with a delicious, sweet and tangy cherry sauce. The ribs were quite delicious too. We had plenty to take home with us. Looking forward to returning soon.
The Fireplace continues to provide really good food at reasonable prices. It is our neighborhood go-to restaurant. The staff is very accommodating, the fireplace is a real treat in the winter, the food is consistently tasty and made with high quality ingredients. I come here for special occasions or when I want to have a special meal. I recommend it highly.
Food was unremarkable. Service was lovely. The air conditioner was on despite how cold it was inside and outside. It was blowing right on us. The server tried but nothing could be done.
Great food, but we just ordered thanksgiving sides and those took about 45 minutes to arrive after our appetizers for whatever reason. Those around us were served entrees prior to us receiving our side plates which we thought was odd.
I was seated promptly, at the bar as requested. Thanksgiving turkey dinner was a sizable portion and delicious. I had seconds on the apple pie for dessert, although I wish there had been vanilla ice cream. Beyond that, and the dolt who sat right next to me despite the fact every other bar stool was free (weird and awkward), I enjoyed myself. And the lovely hostess's leather pants were fantastic. Thank you.
We arrived early for our reservation and was taken to our table right away which was so nice. We loved where we were seated and the conversation around us was light so we had a wonderful time. Our waitress Laura and all of the staff were terrific!! A little pricey but after all it's Brookline so it's to be expected. It was very romantic and we'll definitely visit there again!!
Delicious food, excellent service--we had an excellent time sitting by the fireplace.
The Fireplace has always been a pleasant place to dine. This time, for brunch, I found the music too loud; though turned down as requested, it was soon turned up again. The omelets were flat and overcooked. Mimosa was great, bread always great, and the service helpful and attentive.
Professional staff, welcoming and accommodating to our group. The food was excellent. The ambiance was just right with good tunes in the background that didn't ever become the focal point of the experience. We were well cared-for at The Fireplace!
Everything was great!
I was actually disappointed by my meal this time; had arctic char special which was tasteless and oily. The crab cakes were outstanding, bread good etc. Normally it's rare to have a suboptimal meal so I'll still go back. Service was also excellent.
The Fireplace is always a very reliable restaurant with a great menu-- with a farm to table feel. We especially like it in the colder months as there is a cozy-ness that you just don't get elsewhere. Beautiful fireplace in the cooler months. Always warm attentive service. A lot of pride is taken by the owner and staff-- in what the customer experience is. I really respect the consistent quality with lots of attention to aesthetics--- as well! Note: for those interested, a lot of attention is given to responsible and positive ingredient/protein sourcing. A great restaurant!
Great atmosphere, delicious interesting food, excellent staff
First time in ages I could have a nice meal with friends and actually hear each other speak. Good food, service, and ambiance. Always a hit.
The Fireplace was quite disappointing... each drink order took about 20 minutes, dishes that did not state that they contained bacon on the menu ended up containing bacon (and I am a vegetarian so I couldn't eat most of the food we got...), and the atmosphere isn't great. I probably won't come back here.
Excellent service-delicious salad. Fish also was excellent. I requested low salt, and the chef complied!
Our kids have all been here before, but it was a first for my husband and I. It was a birthday celebration for my son that did not disappoint in any way at all ! Drinks and appetizers were so great.. the Tater Tots and mushroom/stone ground polenta offering was truly delicious ! Meals were great.. portions perfect and the homemade ice creams... especially the popcorn ice cream with the chocolate cake was awesome !! We will definitely return very soon and hopefully it will be colder outside so we can enjoy the warmth of the fireplace in this very warm, friendly, and terrific neighborhood gathering place !!
The Fireplace is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant! On this occasion, I enjoyed a lovely outdoor lunch with a friend. She ordered a beet salad with a fried goat cheese ball on top and a shrimp and scallop entree. The scallops were over cooked and tough, but our server asked the chef to make a new batch, and they were delicious. I choose the Caesar salad with white anchovies and homemade croutons followed by the special Fireplace burger . This delicious burger was served with bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and sweet potato fries. We sat outside which was lovely. The service was great! We do recommend this restaurant.
The Fireplace has outstanding, inventive cuisine as well as a varied and well-selected list of drinks. The only downside to our most recent visit was the crowding of the tables, perhaps in part due to the closure of part of the restaurant space for a private event.
As much as I loved my dinner with a friend the week before, I would say avoid The Fireplace on a Saturday night. It was noisy and chaotic and our server seemed stressed out, forgetting our appetizer and bringing our main course first. Also, the floor/carpet seemed very dirty. I will save this restaurant for doze one on ones by the fireplace near the bar on quiet nights.
Food was excellent as always. Tried their famous burger and was super. Service was very good and best of all, we could hear one another converse without straining.
Thank you Lee for making our first night in Boston a special one !
Excellent personal efficient and friendly service. Creative healthy food. Not too noisy. Good for special occasions.
Loved my cozy dinner Sunday night at The Fireplace. We sat by the fire and had wonderful wine and food. The service by the bar tender was friendly and obliging. Already planning my next visit to this restaurant!
One of the area's best brunch menus. Unfortunately, that means it's crowded -- tables with little space between, wait staff squeezing through. Another time and day, or seating at the bar, might be preferable.
overall still quite good, though I would have appreciated more non-starch vegetables in the vegetable hash
the atmosphere was great as well as the staff . the food was good and served at a good time.
