Sunday brunch. Service was friendly but a little rough around the edges (example: might be good to bring teaspoons not soup spoons for coffee). The brunch menu is manageable size and has a number of creative dishes. My wife tried the avocado toast and was very pleased. The southern breakfast was another big winner. The grits were creamy and pretty spectacular. Beignets were also very good. A good choice for informal dining.
Excellent service and food. A little loud. We will be back.
Food was great, but it was so loud. Great service as well:
Food was great but our server was terrible. He was rude and rushed us. The place was also so loud that we couldn’t hear people talking across the table from us.
Food was absolutely fantastic. No complaints there. Loved the ambience. Waiter didn't get the timing right when we added an extra piece to the order. Only complaint.
Food quality was good, but way over priced. Not much variety. Service was very good.
The food at The Federal is FAB! The brussel sprouts are amazing. Michael and Corey are the best with recommendations from wine to food. The porterhouse is one of the best steaks in Atlanta.
A couple of tables of boisterous constantly telling people ruined the evening. Food great. Service was odd. Had to ask for a cocktail, ask for coffe and dessert. Nothing offered. They should offer carry out!
The Federal always delivers. Outstanding cuisine. Sean D is an Atlanta gem.
I really enjoyed the vibe of The Federal. It's a nice addition to the neighborhood.
The steak was AMAZING. Service was decent, but our waiter seemed overwhelmed with just the tables. The atmosphere was great and got louder as the evening went on. Would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great steak in Atlanta.
An intimate urban nook. All food well-prepared. Recommend the schnitzel, and the flatbread appetizer.
I've been with a large group, by myself at the bar, with my husband for date night, with clients, and it is always great.
Steakhouse that ran out of filet. Also ran out of the wine we requested from the wine list. Great location and decor.
Stupid management trumps potentially good food… OK, this will seem trivial, but dumb management frustrates me. We arrived at The Federal at 8:10 pm for an 8:30 reservation. There were 3 in our party and the third was about 10 minutes behind. The hostess would not seat us because our entire party was not there. I said we have an 8:30 reservation, so you are going to hold the table until then anyway, what difference does it make? She would not budge so I asked for the manager—Jeff Beatrice (prob spelling last name incorrectly). I said I more than understand not seating full parties at restaurants that do not take reservations, but we have a reservation (and are 20 minutes early), why not let us sit down order drinks and appetizers, you are holding the table anyway—we will spend more money (it was Tuesday night and the place looked about half full, of course we could have just walked in and sat down as a twosome and had the third join us when he arrived). He said no, that is the company policy, at this point I think I said that this is a really stupid policy and questioned where it came from, he said the owners and there was nothing he could do (I guess then he is really not a manager, or at the very least not one that can think for himself). I repeated we have a reservation, we are 20 minutes early, there are several available tables, you are going to hold ours until at least 8:30 anyway… why will you not seat us? And his thoughtful answer, “it is the owner’s policy.” So we left headed across the street and spent $200 with Bulla (although they were much busier than The Federal they took the two of us (without a res), with the promise the third would arrive. Before posting this I sent 2 emails to The Federal asking the owner or GM to call. I believe it always important to do that prior to posting on social media (the manager must have said 5 times it was the owner’s policy and I wanted to find out if this was true )… no call and I guess, no surprise
Was a 1st time experience and was very pleased with the service as well as the food. Have already told quite a few friends about the restaurant & we do plan on returning.
Consistently a great place for dinner with friends or a romantic date. Highly recommend their seafood specials but of course, don't miss-out on their fabulous steaks if you're hungry for some beef!
Food was excellent, steak was rated by my wife as one of the better ones in town. Overall enjoyable. Parking situation and 'validation' leaves a bit to be desired though - validation is only for $6 off the overall parking fee (for us it was $15). Might as well Uber.
Way overpriced, the food was good but not great. The steak frite- the steak was great, fantastic bearnaise but the frite were absolutely flavorless. They could use some seasoning.
The raclette was really disappointing. The french onion soup was extremely good.
Service was good, as was the ambiance but overall the price was way too high for the experience.
As we were seated we were told by our server that they had a full house this evening and we wouldn’t be able to sit and take our time with drinks and food etc. it was only 6 pm! And the place was not full! Not a good place for vegetarians at all! Even with a dance notice.
I was completely underwhelmed by my overall experience at The Federal. The best part of the experience was the ambiance. Both the food and the service was forgettable. I was very disappointed and wish my expectations hadn't been so high. I wanted to love it and just couldn't.
My husband and i went for Valentine’s Day because this was 16/50 top Atlanta restaurant
We ordered very expensive drinks $18 for wine and $14 for cocktail. Both drinks were good. We split the Caesar salad and it was quite bitter and my husband couldn’t even finish it. For main meal my husband ordered a burger ( avg), and for me,
I eat only chicken and fish and so I orders salmon with blood oranges ( yum ). For dessert, we had key lime pie because they ran out the dessert that our neighbors were having. It was okay. The waiter was nice but not too talkative and didn’t even apologize when we said we didn’t like the salad. we both wouldn’t come here again unless it was a group event .
The service was attentive, though a tad quirky. The room is hard so it can get quite loud. The steak tartare was very tasty and the entree steak was cooked to perfection and well complemented by the side of mushrooms. If you're in midtown, this is a good place to consider for a nice dinner.
Steak was mediocre, definitely not worth the money. Drinks were great. They were out of the wine we wanted and broccoli. Won’t be going back.
first time coming here and we LOVED it!! all the food and wine was delicious but the filet was out of this world. Best filet in Atlanta!
On the night my wife & I visited, there was great old school jazz drifting through the dinning room. Our server (who's name escapes me at this moment) was fantastic. We received the perfect amount of attention without feeling intruded upon.
We started with the oxtail French onion soup & antipasto, which could be a meal in itself, and moved on to the Porterhouse for two. The massive, perfectly medium rare steak had that wonderful crust you can only achieve with a cast iron pan. It was fantastic. Paired it with the mashed potatoes and crispy Brussels sprouts and washed it down with a bottle of cab blend followed by a stellar Amarone.
It wasn't cheap but it was worth it.
Really nice small bistro. Great service, great food, great ambience. We will be back.
Best neighborhood restaurant in Midtown. Staff is very friendly and the menu is always changing so we go lots!
Outstanding seafood specials! Lobster risotto was terrific.
The ribeye and mushroom side were excellent. The seafood special was bland and rubbery. The soup and fries were served cold. Our service started off great but as problems occurred it dropped off significantly. No dessert was even offered. We will not be returning.
This was our second visit and it was even better than the first about a year ago. The schnitzel is outstanding and the filet is one of the best I’ve ever had. Cocktails are unique and delicious. Looking forward to going back - and will continue to recommend highly!
While the location is great, the service simply doesn’t warrant another visit. From being told we had to order our complete meal from start to finish when the restaurant was half-empty to having to track down the waiter to send back cold and soggy fries, this restaurant just can’t compete with all the other great options in midtown.
Sean Doty is a master at location, ambiance, quality food; quality staff!
Once again, perfect steaks, cooked perfectly. Very fine wine selection. Bernaise sauce to die for, and brussel sprouts to dream about.
Food was fine we all got steaks. Had to send one back was to rare the filet was almost cold in the middle and we ordered medium.
Our waiter was not really listening to us. Food was slow and mediocre and quality of our meat was definitely not worth the price. A small but noteworthy suggestion...buy some black napkins or better quality linens. My dress and the clothing of our friends was covered in white lint from the cheap linens. The ambiance was cozy and the drinks were good.
Very poor and inattentive service from the bartender and our waiter. Food was above average.
Poor service. For the caliber of the restaurant, waitstaff is poorly trained.
Reserved dinner prior to show @ Fox so did not have lots of extra time. Server was very respectful of time, made great recommendations for wine with our meal. We will be back for a more leisurely evening soon.
