Inspired by the rich culinary traditions of Northern Italy, The Fat Ox of Banff brings a taste of the Italian Alps to our guests. Our name, "Fat Ox" pays homage to the robust flavors and hearty dishes found in Northern Italian cuisine.

Symbolizing strength, endurance, and the bounty of the land, it reflects our commitment to serving exceptional meals crafted from the finest ingredients, sourced locally whenever possible and prepared with care & expertise. Our view for our guests is: We just want to have fun!

Fantastic restaurant. We really had a great meal with excellent service. Thank you for keeping a little bit of Ticino. Very nice touch. We will make it a regular place when we are in Banff.

Great food and service! All dishes were great, especially the carrots. Also, make sure you get the pasta here.

Four of us shared drinks and a few appetizers on the patio. The atmosphere was fun and casual. We ordered the bruschetta, Tuscan fries, elk meatballs, and grilled summer squash, and all were excellent! One of our party had food allergies, and our server took extra care to let her know which foods were okay for her to eat and which she should avoid. We will be back.

We really enjoyed the food. The quality and uniqueness of the appetizers and main courses made it feel like a special occasion. The service was very good. Friendly and with good recommendations.

Excellent Italian in central Banff, we had the bruschetta and focaccia to start then 2 pasta dishes which were both excellent and very authentic Italian. May return tomorrow!

This place never disappoints!!! Great atmosphere, knowledgeable, friendly and attentive staff, and every dish is so delicious. The food is so flavourful we keep coming back when we want a nice dinner.

We chose Fat Ox in part due to their "date night" 3-course menu special - but no one mentioned it and the menu was so hidden we assumed it wasn't offered anymore - only to find at the end of the meal that it indeed was! Our miss on the menu, but it would have been nice if our server had mentioned it. Food overall was very good. The Caesar salad was unusual and delicious. The pasta with shrimp (the name of which escapes me) was truly great. Despite the cream sauce, it wasn't heavy, and the pasta itself was perfect. The short rib was a bit of a disappointment, our least favorite. A bit on the dry side and just kind of "blah." Drinks & wine good. Our server was very engaged with the table next to ours, long chats & lots of attention. Not sure if that's because they were fellow Aussies, he knew them, or they were just more fun - we got cursory service at best. That was disappointing. But overall, still a good experience - and lovely patio seating.
