In the early 1970's, an old train caboose was added to provide a unique dining area. During the past decade, a rustic lounge, additional dinner seats, and a spacious 250-seat Banquet Facility have added to the charm of The Farmhouse.
Can’t say enough about this restaurant! I just happened upon it while looking for a place to eat brunch. We were staying in Floyd, but worth the drive. Great location, great food, and great service!
Farmhouse has been around for many years and is a local favorite. The food is good quality but they sometimes overcook steaks so you may want to order a lower degree of doneness (medium rare instead of medium).

20 minutes for the rolls, husbands' salmon burned on the bottom, brought a second one, burned worse on the bottom. Inedible. Cole slaw tasted spoiled. Inedible. Loaded baked potatoes had about a tablespoon of cheese and about a tablespoon of bacon bits. Ordered my prime rib rare. Was medium. After cutting it up, half was fat. Drove 50 minutes for a very poor experience.

Christmas Eve dinner with a spouse, very ill from medical treatments and an elderly parent that is nearly deaf, and won’t admit it. A private chat with server, Allison, and everything not only went smoothly, but far exceeded it. No one else knew that Allison our server knew, because she was extremely caring, helpful, as well working hard to give our table everything, and some extra while taking care of other patrons. Even when the unexpected/expected happened; my spouse fell ill as a result of medical issue, and again I quietly let our server Allison know, and that I needed to leave ASAP - our food was boxed, check settled and on our way. Take note, although young, this young lady has the get go, the know how, the can do/will do all while providing great service, and compassion.
I loved this place 35 years ago, still do.

Upscale restaurant with superb food and service. Best prime rib anywhere. Sometimes it’s worth spending a little coin for a special occasion. The only question that we had afterwords was - what will we have next time?

Disappointed! Had been recommended for this area as a great place to eat, Maybe my expectations were too high. Not a big chain restaurant fan and try to support local business but this is a very average restaurant with average service. I am writing based on my experience so others may have a great experience and be happy with food. I think it is over priced for quality and lacked any I want to be a great restaurant uniqueness for food or service. Very nice just not great food or service! I would recommend Outback or similar over this restaurant.

We have tried the prime rib several times and it’s always been mediocre at best. Figured we’d try one more time - it was awful and so tough I couldn’t even chew it. Took home for my dogs. Ordered rare and it was raw - sent back and was brought back well done. Never again. Others in our group reported their meals were “okay”. Ambiance is great but it will be a very long time before we venture back

We were a bit perplexed by the "stalls" that we sat in. It is quaint in effect, but if anyone is not of a small size (like the majority of my friends) I am not even sure they could fit in the table set up.
The food was delicious, service impeccable. So nice for a change!!!
Sadly I need to share that both my sister and I were up sick all night from dinner. We suspect that either the bread pudding custard had not cooked through or some of the bacon was raw on the wrapped scallops.

Excellent steak restaurant with a great selection of wines.
The layout of the restaurant makes it feel really small while your enjoying your meal, as you can only see 2-3 tables (which makes it very quiet as well).
It does feel like a bit of a maze to get to the table though

Overall, the dining experience was great. My husband's steak was excellent. My steak was well done instead of medium well as ordered, but they provided a complimentary dessert. Will definitely return.

My wife ordered the surf an turf, the rib eye med. Well. I ordered the ny strip, medium well. My wife's came out almost blood raw except on the outside. My my strip was right just a little pink on the inside but outside was burned and actually tasted the burned ashes on the steak. I didnt say anything there but for 70 worth of steak it should be cooked appropriately.

Seems to have gone downhill from last year. I do wonder if management or the ownership has changed. Everything was just about ok but not worth the $150 for three dinners. I would be wary of returning.

Thanksgiving 2019. We had the last seating at 6 PM. The ambience was lovely but the buffet was underwhelming. Serving dishes had not been refreshed in some time although there was an attendant standing right in the room. Serving spoons for sticky items such as mac & cheese and mashed potatoes were so layered with the food that you could not even scoop a serving. Others were nearly empty. For instance, the roasted vegetables dish had just a few Brussel sprouts. The attendant in the room was doing absolutely nothing. The desserts were dried out from having sat so long. We did see some hot items being refreshed when we returned to the dessert table. Too little too late. I used the ladies restroom on the way out. The stall was dirty with debris on the floor and on the back of the toilet. It was a beautiful restaurant and everything that was wrong could’ve been easily rectified. The 6 o’clock reservations should have the same experience as the 2 o’clock reservations. We paid the same but did not receive the same service. Disappointing.
Food and Service was fantastic. Only complaints were gravy was a little thinner than I like and pie slices were small, but since it was a buffet we easily could go back for seconds.
The Thanksgiving Buffet meal was delicious but quite pricey.

Excellent service. Excellent and delicious food. Our only problem was that, when we came in, they wanted to seat us in a stall, as opposed to an open table. Since we had a handicapped and an overweight person, that would was problematic. However, everybody was courteous and seated us at a regular table when we requested it..
Great and friendly service. I was waiting for somebody to finish in the restroom on the way out and was asked by multiple staff members if they could get me anything. The food was delicious and generous portions.
We were stuck in traffic from an accident which made us a few minutes late for our reservation. They were very understanding and held our table. The waiter informed us in advance that our food might take awhile because the restaurant was so busy. We appreciated being informed. The food was delicious and our waiter was excellent.

We have been coming to the Farmhouse for 40 years! They have always been known for their Prime Rib and onion rings. We ordered the onion rings and they were excellent. We also ordered the Prime Rib and waitress came back and said they did not have any. Not quite sure why that happened if you are famous for your Prime Rib and it was not an especially super busy evening. The management might want to check on what happened.
The young lady waiting on us was excellent. She apologized repeatedly and, of course, we said it certainly was not her fault.
The Farmhouse is loved by everyone in our little town. Do hope that the owners and management can pay more attention to what is happening there.

The Farmhouse is the only place in town that I will take my family and friends. I have been doing it since 1969 except for the two years it was closed. The food quality, service, and atmosphere are great. My waitress last night was perfect in her service, her timing, and her personality. Charlie

The Farmhouse has a great atmosphere with cozy quiet booths for small groups, facilitating conversations without straining to hear. Unfortunately, the food is not very good. The temperature of the pasta and mashed potatoes was uneven as if they had been carelessly microwaved. The chicken Parmesan was soggy. The onion soup was burnt around the edges. The steak was chewy. We opted to go elsewhere for dessert.

Our food took an extremely long time, over 30 minutes after we ordered, to arrive. We had reservations for 9:00 and didn’t leave until after 10:45. My daughter’s steak was very overcooked, but by that time we couldn’t wait any longer. For the money we paid it was definitely not worth it. We often go to Farmhouse when we visit Blacksburg but it’s time to find other restaurants. Very overrated.
