The Farmers Union Ratings and Reviews
Boisterous environment, decor on the rustic side. No fine dining but that is not to be expected at this type of place. Very good food (the duck rolls fantastic) and a good range of beers. (We didn’t look at the wine list.) We will definitely be back if in the neighborhood again.
This was my 4th time dining here and both the food and the service have really gone downhill since I was last here. Our entrees arrived before we were finished with our appetizers, which is a big no-no. Also, the bread, which there is a charge for, was not as described and the cheese fondue was runny and flavorless. The fried chicken entree was as good as ever I am happy to say. I will probably not go back.
We come here often for lunch and for the Sharks games. They are consistently very good. The biggest gripe I have, however, is the very loud atmosphere. So much buzz you cannot hear your seatmate talk. At times we get lucky and are seated in a table that is a bit quieter.
A very big plus is generally the outstanding service. Tonight, though I was given the wrong dish but they dashed back and got my 1/2 salad with chicken. Granted hockey night is crazy, but even at that, they try very hard and get us in and out in good time. Also, big kudos to the host(ess) as we have had luck with booth seating too. Try the Farmer's Union Market chicken salad - to die for! My hubby likes the beer and their by-the-glass wine is very respectable. Highly recommend this spot for a super meal.
Delicious food with good variety and some interesting options. Mushroom cigars are delicious as is the poutine. We had a great server. We were 3 couples and shared several appetizers. In addition, we all split our entrees. There was plent to share! Be aware the noise level can get up there.
If you want to go to a very noisy restaurant, this is the place. Location is good, Food was fine, service poor. Noise just permeates the entire restaurant, and it was not full of people. Have been to this location when it was another name and had same issues; never returned.
I want so bad to like the food here! I've been three times because I love the ambiance and drink selection, and each time I tried something different in the menu, and I just do not like the food. I'll be back for drinks only before a sharks game or something, but probably will eat somewhere else.
We went here before attending a Sharks game. The restaurant was fully and the noise level is pretty loud, but not so much that we could not have a conversation.
We had the Smoker Sample and the Salmon. We shared the 2. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the roasted root vegetables we very good as well. The smoke brisket and the ribs are excellent as well, but the chicken was smoked and dry. The sides we had were beans and coleslaw. The beans were good spicy but overly so. The coleslaw was advertised as Habanero and was as the name would predict very spicy, too much for me (so I would not order it again) but it was true to its name
We have eaten here many times. Usually all very good. Not so much this trip. My daughter, whose birthday is was, didn’t get the meal she ordered. When her meal did come it didn’t come with The potatoes that were supposed to be with that dish. When we mentioned it we were told, after a trip to the kitchen, that they were out of them. She would have had something else if she had known. In the end it would have been nice if some courtesy had been offered. Take the dish off the bill or at the very least buy dessert. We will be back but a bit more cautious .
The menu specifically listed gluten free options only to find our waitress returning to tell us it was not entirely. The only GF dessert option was sorbet.
We ordered steak with chimmichurri that was so completely over salted overpowered by garlic that it ruined the steak altogether.
The salad was uninspired and lacked any real flavor.
I've hosted many many dinners and the Farmers Union... will NEVER return. Truly one of the poorest meals I've experienced at the low low rate of $175 for two.
Had dinner with friends on a Wednesday evening. Great service, a bit noisy, and food pretty good. Nice selection of reasonably priced wines, the 1/2 liter bottle was just enough for 2 to share. Pork chop entree was moist and tender. The lamb burger was tasty too but I don't recommend the French fries as they were way too spicy. The filet of sole special was yummy, as were the bbq ribs. Conveniently located downtown with curbside parking for free after 6 p.m.
My team of three arrived for a quick dinner after a full day of travel and meetings. The menu is eclectic and has some great options! We shared the duck confit roll and chorizo poutine. The steak caught 3 of our attention, and the other chose the risotto with salmon. Food was pretty tasty, I really enjoyed the ambiance, recommend!
When it comes to food, this place goes for quantity over quality. Prices are reasonable and you get very large portions, but it just isn't impressive at all. I ordered the flat iron steak and frites. It came with enough French fries to feed a family of 12. It was only ok, as I'd rather have a small amount of delicious food than a huge pile of mediocre. One of my guests had the risotto and thought it was awful. Another person ordered the ribs--- which were all eaten, but I didn't hear anyone say it was delicious.
We love farmers union. We dine here all the time before sharks games. The quail dish was outstanding and my husbands brisket was the best he said they've done. Two drawbacks- one is the upstairs seating that we were seated at was like the antarctic with the air conditioning blowing straight at our heads. Service was a little slow to start. But then it picked up and our server turned out great.
Fun evening -- dinner for 6 of us before the Sharks game -- our waitress was great -- friendly and checked in on us periodically to see if we needed anything. The wine list was reasonable - by the bottle or the glass, and the food was delicious. We started with the calamari app -- light and crispy -- the fennel was a nice touch. I had the braised pork shoulder for my main entree -- so good. I highly recommend that. If you are looking for someplace to eat before an event at the Shark Tank - be sure to check this out!
