I was very disappointed with this restaurant. The reviews looked great and I had never tried it. We ate upstairs and it was very noisy. This was a 4:45 reservation as I had a performance at 6 to attend. The waiter/waitresses weren’t attentive and hard to get a hold of. The food was mediocre at best. Maybe one step above Chili’s, but nothing to brag about. Had fried chicken, lamb burger and combo bbq with a family Caesar. Price was much more than expected as the restaurant claimed to be two dollar signs. Don’t plan to return or refer.
I have been back several times and the smoked brisket never disappoints. Our server was attentive and the entire experience with our business clients went great. This is definitely a gem in downtown San Jose.
Met a group of friends there and had a great time. Food and service was good, we never felt rushed
I was not that impressed with the food. It wasn’t anything to amazing. I did not like the Mac n cheese at all, it seemed Awfully sweet. The service was average.
2 thumbs up. Beyond my expectation.
Really good food at reasonable prices combined with excellent service and atmosphere make this a true gem!
It was great! We love this place, the food is always super delicious and service is good. They were a little busy but we had a wonderful evening
Friendly service staff, great environment, creative menu, huge beer selections
Farmers Union experience was wonderful for our family dinner. We received excellent service, and the food was outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Missed the mark entirely for authentic southern food...
My second visit - this time before a concert. It was very busy that night so service was a little off (waited a solid 5 minutes for mustard while my burger cooled). But the menu is fun/unique, wine by the carafe and convenient to SAP Center. My impossible burger was well cooked/yummy and my friend’s fried chicken pleased her. In a city full of great Asian and Mexican food, The Farmers Union is a nice change of pace.
great service for a Birthday party of nine. Good food; lots of choices and variety.
Though the place was quite packed and so quite loud when we first got there, the food and the drink selection was well worth it. Once a few large tables cleared out we had no problem hearing each other over the din. The fish and chips and sweet potato fries are very well done, and I really liked the dipping sauces for each. There is more than enough beer selections to find what you will like, so a good place to go to try new beers.
It was a Shark's game night which meant things were quite busy, but having to wait 25 minutes for a cocktail to be brought to your seat was just too long. Otherwise good food and a good place to go before a game. The waitress was so nice that we gave her 2 extra tickets that we had. We will be back as the smoked chicken was superb.
Good food, good service. Nice location.
Good stuff- but for proclaimed wine bar, not a great selection. Outside of that , great place.
Brisket was great a little fatty but really tasty.
We enjoy dinner at Tabard before attending performances at Tabard Theater. Our favorite server, Tor, provides excellent service!
The restaurant experience was forgettable. Nothing special. Servere was too busy to pay attention to us. We borrowed a dessert menu from the guests seated next to us. Our server was plenty happy to get us boxes for our leftovers but not to offer dessert or coffee.
The food was very generic, nothing bad but certainly nothing to bring us back. Lobster biscuit is a thick lobster bisque over a tasty biscuit served in a cast iron skillet warm not hot. Cheese fondue is overly incfluenced with beer, served in a cast iron vessel too. The crab cakes were okay but again, nothing to rave about. Fish and chips above average, fried chicken was okay only and the ribs were the best of the three. cole slaw overly influenced with citrus and potato salad was bland.
Brownie for dessert was dry and simply cut into a square with vanilla ice cream on top. Mixed berry sorbet tasted like grocery store brand and the apple crisp had a bitter streusel topping. It was also seved in a cast iron skillet and barely warm.
You don't have to avoid the place, just don't expect much.
BBQ was not cooked correctly. Many of the items served were of poor quality or flavor.
Very cool place, good drinks, food is ok
Got a bit loud later in the night but expected. Had a good time overall
Slightly annoyed by how badly overcooked all our our dishes were, 4 people ordered burgers (medium; 3 impossible 1 normal) all came out very very very well done. Also the fact they charge $4 premium for impossible burger vs a Grass Fed burger is highway robbery. Every year I come back here, and every year I am reminded why I don't return here more frequently. Our waiter was very active at our table until the food came out, then it took 15 minutes to send the one burger back (the impossible eaters didn't care).
Staff was very rude and actually cussed about how terrible their job is. Forgot orders of drinks and part of the meal. Wait was very long.
Always dependable and a good value. Energetic atmosphere that indicates the popularity of the Farmer’s Union.
Food was good, but our waitress was clueless. Forgot my drink, didn’t know the menu and brought the bill way before we were done.
This resturant was all very meh. It wasn't busy at all on a Sunday around 11:45, which should hav ebeen a big red flag - every place in the bay area is bursting at the seams for sunday brunch. It took about 4-5 minutes for someone to notice us in the front - actually plenty of people noticed us, but no one was working the front it appeared. We were asked what we wanted by our server in a reasonable amount of time, but we had to flad down others in order to get items like sugar for our coffee. The food was fine but there was nothing very exciting about it.
Great restaurant - great service - friendly and wonderful people
We did visit on a hockey night, but that only accounts for how noisy it was in the restaurant. The service was slow and the food was mediocre. I had clam chowder that would have been great if it hadn't been so salty. The shrimp and grits was really bland, and the pears in my pear salad were completely tasteless and watery. My husband had a pork chop, which he enjoyed, and our son's cheeseburger was good. The fries were cold, though. Not worth a return visit.
Seated promptly , and service was fine ,... considering the San Jose Shark playing hone game!
Food was good. Portions were on the larger side so there was plenty to take home. Service was slow before we ordered. Quick once we ordered. Then ignored after we had finished. Had to ask for the check twice. This is not typical for The Farmers Union.
Do not bother going if there is a Sharks game (unless you're going to the game). Being right down the street from the SAP Center makes it a great location to grab something to eat before the game. The problem was, we weren't going to the game. I thought we got in prior to the rush but our waiter continued to make excuses about being slammed because of the Sharks game. This was before his section even filled up. Once that happened, we never saw him again. We got our dinner order, salad came with the dinner but had to ask for the drink I ordered before dinner and refills on sodas and water. Food was good, crab cakes, wings and fish and chips. Burger was a little too pink(we weren't asked how we wanted it cooked). It was also loud so made it difficult to have a conversation.
Good spot to catch a meal before a Sharks game.
This place is very cool! I loved the set up and ambiance. Very pretty inside. We got seated upstairs which was pretty cool. Our waiter was good, but he didn’t seem like he wanted to be there. He was nice though. I had the Farmer’s Bowl I believe with chicken. It was delicious, although I wasn’t much of a fan of the citrus vinaigrette but still pretty good. My sister had the steak with the fries. The steak was good & so were the fries. They’re like garlic fries. Overall, this place is great.
The food at the restaurant was pretty good. Although I wasn't really impressed by the BBQ combo platter, everything else was great.
I’ve been here a few times now. The experience has been consistently positive. Date night, business meal, recruiting events, this place works well for all of them. There are lots of options for different dietary preferences, well priced for the value you get, and the staff are very professional. No complaints here that’s for sure.
We always have great food and the service never disappoints.
We met friends here before the Sharks game. The food and service are consistently good. I appreciate having a table reserved on busy game nights.
We loved the ambiance! As for the food, it was a bit hit and miss. We ordered salads and appetizers. My salad was yummy, but my husband's beet salad was extremely salty. The appetizers could have been fantastic, but both (Meatballs and Mac and Cheese) lacked a bit of flavor. We will give it another chance though.
Eight of us ate together prior to going to Broadway SJ. Service was fast and food was good.
