The food was good and came out quickly. We will go again.
The food was mediocre. I ordered the fish and chips; the fish was overcooked and lacked flavore. The fries were cold.
Service and ambiance is great. Ribs was a little on the tough side but other dishes we orders were superb!
Terrible! Cold food. We were out upstairs alone:(. Bad ambiance…..
Calamari was so underwhelming. Half of the dish was vegetables. Asked for a different sauce because the one it comes with was not complementary to the dish. Also, the breading mixture for everything was too grainy.
The poutine is more like chili fries with a pound of jalapenos put on top. Poutine is meant to have gravy. This doesn't. It is a saucy meat mixture which is folded into the fries versus being poured over top like a gravy. Also, the dish had very little cheese.
The pork ribs were dry. They were cooked well but you could tell they had been sitting a while because of how they had dried out overall versus just the exterior meat which occurs with over cooking. The sauce was okay. Nothing to rave about.
Overall, an overpriced bar food sports bar which didn't have good bar food.
The service and food weee very good but the area for outside seating had homeless people roaming around the tables asking for money, and others shouting nearby. I would seat indoors next time.
Beer, fondue, brisket tacos. Content and happy.
Lovely dinner on the patio
Biscuits were bland and the chicken in my salad was rubbery.
We will not be back.
Awesome place. Waiter was super cool!! Can't remember his name but he was from Puerto Vallarta kicked us a free salad! Drinks were outstanding.
Enjoyed our pre-sharks game dinner, clean and quick service given we needed to get to the game. Thanks!
We like San pedro square and this is one of our favorite places
great food, good outside space. delightful serving staff
Food was good, but calamari didn't seem to be fresh and was cold. One member in our party enjoyed the dessert, we both had the same thing; however, the brownies were not warm as advertised and I didn't particularly care for the taste of the brownie. Our waiter provided amazing service!
Had a great time hanging out with my wife, nice dinner. Prices weren’t bad and food was good.
The food was great, reviews I read beforehand were accurate. We split the wedge salad, meatballs, biscuits and chicken wings, and we would both order all of them again. Good portions and food came out quickly. Will be back to try more!
Service was slow and food was average
Excellent food and service
Walking into The Farmer's Union, the first thing my partner and I noticed was how festively it was decorated! The holiday decorations created such a wonderful atmosphere and we loved how cozy the seating areas felt. We arrived about 30 minutes early for our reservation and the hostess graciously seated us early which was awesome. The food and service were good, but personally the menu items were not particularly exciting (pretty typical of what you would find at a Yard House or similar) - we ordered the beer they were also tasty - my fried chicken was battered and fried very well. We do wish the appetizer and entrees had been spaced out a little better; we weren't even halfway through with our appetizer when our entrees arrived and since we were at a small table for 2, it was a tight squeeze for all of the plates. I would recommend that anyone who hasn't been to The Farmer's Union pay a visit, but personally I don't think this will be one of our go-to restaurants.
The burgers were to die for, really large and quality beef. Lots of fries though a little dry for me, others at the table scared them up. Wouldn't recommend the fondue appetizer. The cheese sauce nothing like what fondue should taste like, should just call it what it was cheese sauce coming with a couple of raw carrot sticks and broccoli florets with a couple of pretzel bites. Would not order that again.
My Wide and I visited on Saturday at 5:30 pm and weee seated quickly. The restaurant is lively especially when the Sharks are at home.
Our service and food were very good. I ordered roasted beet salad with salmon. A generous portion and good value. My Wife Jackie had the vegetable plate with Shrimp and she was pleased. Buttermilk biscuits were nice also.
A good experience.
Good was like warm, not cooked as requested and poor service.
One of our favorite places to go out for dinner. A little noisy but there was a shark’s game so pretty busy that night.
Bluntly, the food was… bad. A calamari appetizer that was close to inedible; it was mushy, the calamari tasted stale. I ordered a salmon entree and the salmon was unevenly cooked and under-seasoned. The other person ordered a cheese sandwich with tomato soup, which was passable.
Finally, the service was terrible, with long delays at times, despite the restaurant being about a quarter full. We waited about 15 minutes after eating before we found someone to get us the check.
All in all, mediocre to bad and not worth the money. I would not go back.
Our go to dining before Sharks games. Great as usual. The farmers union salad is so tasty and huge portion! Got to try the Old Fashioned cocktail. Best in not only San Jose but it tops world renowned restaurants. Ask for server Miguel!
What a disappointment and it had HUGE POTENTIAL TOO 😢
I made reservations for a Birthday Guest, I even Mentioned to my Waiter "I Brought My Best Friend Here For The 1st Time, Tonight is her Birthday." NOT ONLY was there no recognition of Her Special Night... But when placing our order I insisted the Birthday Day Girl GET A Cocktail on ME, She ordered a Margarita, I ordered "The strongest Shirley Temple I can get" I laughed and said I'm the designated driver. Then I waved The Waiter in close and ask him to please "Add a floater shot of Grand Marnier to My friends Margarita" I do have to say the Margarita came without the FLOATER I ASKED FOR ON HER DRINK! So I tell him this, he then comes back with a floater of Grand Marnier "Saying it got blended in in the drink" Here's a shot for the top and he's gone. Huh?? So why you bringing me another shoot without asking about it first ... like first find out where is the original shot AND LET US KNOW, WE'LL DECIDE IF WE WANT TO PAY FOR ANOTHER SHOT!!...cuz now you want me to pay for Both the Shots, I didn't ask for 2 damn SHOTS. Plus He May or May Not Have Had A DAMN SHOT ADDED TO MY SHIRLEY TEMPLE CUZ HE THINKS I SAID "You said add a floater" TO MY FRIENDS DRINK DEAR GOD DIRTY WORDS... I have not had Alcohol in my system for health reasons since 2006!!!! I don't want my health jeopardised due to someone not paying attention. I said I am the designated driver early in conversation.
I for some reason think I'm actually gonna get a dish that includes meat that comes in a standard cut mostly got cut cubes fat The worst Dish Ever. OK no biggy I keep it to my self try and eat what I can and am AT LEAST HAPPY MY BIRTHDAY FRIEND IS HAPPY WITH HER CHOICE.
Friendly staff, great food, outdoor dining and good prices!
Excellent Server!!!!! Fish Tacos were especially outstanding! Sweet Potato fries were crispy & delicious. Grat place to eat before a show!
I have dined at The Farmers Union before, and it was pretty good previously. This experience was disappointing. We had dinner before a play at the Center for the Performing Arts, so this location is great. But the dining experience was "meh." The restaurant had very few diners, though to be fair, 5:30 is rather early for dinner. Our server was not terribly personable. He brought us bowls of soup, rather than the cups we ordered. And although we asked for the soup as a starter, our entrees came at about the same time. The soup was delicious, but pricey at $10 per bowl. And our tacos (brisket and fish) were on the cool side by the time we finished our soup. The tacos were not all that tasty, either. When the bill came, we were surprised to see that these rather mediocre meals cost about $50 each. Gulp! For a $50 meal, I'd prefer a more "wow" meal.
great food and drinks service was also great over all great place to eat before a sharks game
Overall a great spot. The meatballs were excellent, the cocktails were great. The biscuits were on the dry side, but we enjoyed everything else. Our server was pleasant and responsive. We would dine here again and I would recommend it to my friends.
I've been to this place many times in the past. (Pre-Covid) Unfortunately this time was a great disappointment. The service was lovely and efficient, but the food was bad. Two of us had the tomato soup and grilled cheese. I could have done better at home. The panini machine must have been off because only 1 side of the bread was grilled. And the bread was too thick. The soup was grainy and rather tart. I hoped for better.
Reasonably priced tasty food and attentive service
Great! Super busy. Took 40 minutes to order but everything was soooooo good!
We had went to the restaurant for the first time a week prior and the food was amazing - so went this time and brought my family and the food was such a disappointment- it was cold my soup was even cold
We had a 6:15 reservation and were seated quickly, but it was 15-20 minutes before we saw anybody and when the waiter arrived he announced “we are super backed up and you won’t get dinner for at least 35-45 minutes.” Not cool. We left. The hostess or somebody seating us could have told us right away!
Waited over an hour for food and it all came at once including soup and salads.
Food was decent but the service was absolutely terrible. The worst we’ve had in a long time. The server came to our table twice; once to take our order and once to drop the check. We never received any service in between to order more drinks, ask for water, or to see how the food was. Super disappointing.
