Service was good, food was OK. I had the Flat Iron Steak with dirty fries. I wasn't terrible but rather bland. The Dirty fries were probably the best part of that plate.
We enjoyed a pre-theater dinner at The Farmers Union. Because of the early dinner time, the restaurant was quiet, and we were seated away from other patrons. Our server, Isabelle, was pleasant and friendly and efficient. Our meals were fine and tasty. I had the grilled cheese (on very thick bread!) and tomato soup, accompanied by a mountain of fries. It was a carb-lover's delight, but I was not able to finish it all. My friend's hamburger looked good, but not really out-of-the-ordinary. Overall, The Farmers Union was a nice place to grab dinner. I expect I'll return the next time I'm downtown.
With my wife. Great experience. MaryAnn was great as always!
Been here twice now and each time was excellent. Wonderful servers and atmosphere, as well as the food and beverages offered. Highly recommend!
I have always returned here time and time again because of the food and the service. This past reservation was no exception. The waiter was so attentive, the food was delicious, the cocktails were very tasty, and they have the precautions down so well that you don’t feel like you are going through any process except for just feeling safe with options. My long-time streak of returning here will continue.
Enjoyed the food and the outdoor dining was very nice.
Yummy comfort food, and they make a killer dirty martini!! Can’t go wrong here!
The Farmers Union is not what is used to be. Lousy food & cocktails with an expensive price tag and mediocre service.
We live close to downtown SJ and would continue to support local businesses. However, we work hard for our money and are unable to justify spending $100 for food & drinks that tastes subpar.
We are say to say that last night was our last visit to The Farmers Union.
I was excited to eat here after hearing about it from friends. It was 2pm Saturday and I was looking forward to a late lunch and a cocktail. Imagine my disappointment when they handed me a breakfast menu. Apparently they serve breakfast until 3 (They did have a salad and a burger on the menu, but that’s all) This explains why the place was empty and Il Fornaio was packed. The last damn thing I wanted to eat at 2 in the afternoon was breakfast. I had eaten eggs for breakfast that morning (when people eat breakfast) and definitely did not want more. Anyway, I don’t know how their actual food is because they don’t serve it during the day. A mistake in my opinion. I mean the place was EMPTY and other places in the area were jumpin. Maybe they should rethink their menu.
The fish and chips were over breaded and came with over salted fries that were inedible, the salmon was raw (appalling), the macaroni and cheese was okay but the meat was almost inexistent (for 3-5 dollars extra) so very expensive for the quality of noodles with cheese and roux, the biscuits were dry and sticky from honey but the strawberry jam on the side was good, not sure if it was made in house but it tasted fresh. There was a good beer selection and the server was kind. I would only come back as a bar patron but I will never eat here again. The fish and chips were thrown into the trash as soon as I arrived home.
Delicious food and drink. Great outdoor space.
We ate Outdoors. The food was good, service was good, it was chilly and the heaters weren't on.
Wait staff excellent!
Those biscuits are amazing. Amazing.
Will 100% return.
We enjoy the lovely meal of comfort food outside in San Pedro Square. I just messaged enjoying my grilled cheese and Tomato soup. I was able to substitute fries for greens and that made me very happy.
Lovely meal on the patio!
Server forgot to put in one of our apps then asked us if we still wanted it then charged. Seems like an error that was his fault and should have been resolved through him.
Thank you for the quick service
Great outdoor seating. Food was wonderful.
Live music and great atmosphere on Friday night. Veggie plate is great and so was everything else. Chef was accommodating to requests.
Great menu with lots of options. We had salads, sandwiches, and tacos. All were great in a nice outdoor setting.
Lots of seating indoors and out. Meatball appetizer was tasty.
We went for brunch and they had plenty of outdoor seating. The food was pretty good, drinks were great, and their service was great. I'd recommend going. Just be aware if you eat outside that there will be regular planes flying overhead as they took off from SJO. It wasn't deafening or uncomfortable, but they were there and my 3 year old loved them.
Enjoyed outdoor dining. Excellent wait service. Food was very good.
We had a 7pm reservation and were very rushed because they closed at 8pm! Restaurant should not accept any reservation past 6:30pm if that’s the case. Food was ok.
They opened at 11:00 for brunch and were out of several items by 11:50. It also felt like they were severely limited on staff. I don't think this experience is representative of the restaurant though.
Went in on a Sunday at 2pm with my family, disappointed to find that breakfast was the only available option (until 4pm apparently). But that was on me to not have checked first. Service was great but the food was very disappointing and not what we expected from the Farmers Union.
I had the brisket hash skillet. The meat was dry and felt like it had been made the day prior and sat under a heating lamp. My poached eggs were hard-poached and not runny like I had expected. My partner had the eggs Benedict with hash browns. Her eggs were poached correctly but the hash browns were hard and cold. Again, as if it had been made much earlier in the morning and just left to the side until someone ordered it.
I’ve brought countless friends and family to this restaurant over the years, and though it has been a while since my last time here, I do feel like this experience was just a one-off. I’ll give it another shot, but I sure hope this place hasn’t run its course.
I't pretty safe to assume that all the dishes are going to be quite good. The Bloody Mary's are also quite good ... a good balance of savory and spicy. I do feel like you pay for the quality, as this is not a friendly spot if you are looking to dine on a budget. I anticipate I will be back to try out more of the menu.
Good food! Great service on a beautiful day! Def will be back! Dinner menu looks awesome ! I went for breakfast! Yum yum!
Had a good experience. Service was attentive and gave very good recommendations for the beers. I only wish they had more than just breakfast options for 1:00 Saturday lunch.
The ricotta meatballs were so good!!!!
Always good good, quick seating and service.
Love the expanded outdoor eating area. I hope they keep that post covid.
Lovely weather for outdoor dining. Staff was friendly. The food was mostly tasty. The omelette was overcooked but other then that everyone enjoyed their meals. The salad with chicken was delightful. Also had corn, dates, nuts, feta cheese, avocado and a light dressing. My breakfast sandwich was filling and rich. The potatoes were not hot or crispy like I like, but the sandwich was the star.
Pros: staff, not crowed for brunch.
Cons: a few items were not up to price paid. And the homeless problem around the area. I’ll sit inside if I go back.
The food was good, the service was decent, and they have outdoor seating.
Had a great experience dining outside! The food was outstanding! Colin's service was fantastic, as he was very friendly, informative about the food, and fun! Have enjoyed dining here before, and this was our first post - pandemic closure visit, and it was exceptional!
Overall very nice. Food was good, not exceptional. Service was pretty good but it took forever to get our bill. Which is a pet peeve of mine.
Very good food. Love the appetizers. Great for take-out too.
I love this place! Food and service is always impeccable.
Our server, Isabella, was fantastic. And food was tasty.
