The Factory Kitchen - Los Angeles
Helmed by Restaurateur Matteo Ferdinandi, his wife Beverage Director Francine Diamond-Ferdinandi and their longtime friend and Partner Executive Chef Angelo Auriana, the Factory Kitchen re-defined the approach and the experience to casual dining in the city by combining elements of culinary arts, service, and design.
A traditional Italian Restaurant & Bar in the heart of the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, the Factory Kitchen culinary concept focuses on local recipes from the Northern Italian Regions; but emphasizes on some Ligurian traditional dishes like Mandilli di Seta al Pesto alla Genovese and the Focaccina Calda al Formaggio di Recco.

Overall, the experience was great. We ordered the focaccia, a few sides and a few pastas. We absolutely loved one of the pasta dishes (Casonzei), and the mandilli, fiori & funghi, Brussels sprouts and kale were all solid. Service was great, drinks were great. Thanks for a lovely evening :)
I chose this place for my Birthday upon looking existing reviews online.
Place is well decorated, greeting and service was good. Recommendations from staff was accurate, tried a very tasty gnocchi plate along with grilled beet appetizer, excellent taste.
Definitely recommended and will come back
It was cold by the window, where I was sitting. I love the food, but each time I wish they provided bread, either complimentary or to be purchased, bread to dip in leftover scrumptious sauce.
The food, as always, was fantastic!
The wait staff led by our server, Olman, was superb.
This restaurant is always on point with their food--I have tried all of the appetizers, about half of the pastas and even their steak and seafood have always been wonderfully prepared. Our server for our most recent visit went above and beyond to make sure that we had a positive dining experience.
The only thing at The Factory Kitchen that isn't excellent is the noise level. Luckily my dining companions are quite loud so it wasn't an issue.
Food could have been good but was cold by the time it arrived.
Service was okay despite having a reservation and mentioning it was for a birthday.
Waited for quite awhile, way past our original reservation time of 7:45. We brought our food friend here to celebrate her 50th. Once seated our server seemed stressed and annoyed the second we sat down. Maybe too many tables? Not sure but I felt the need to try and reassure her and not add to her stressed out vibe. She was very nice though but we felt hurried by her, like she really didn’t want to be there. Many of the dishes we ordered were super salty and OK in flavor. With the exception of one salad that was delicious and one pasta that was exceptional. Everything else was OK. We ordered two apps, one salad, two pastas and a pizza for three of us. The beignets for dessert were delicious the apple tart so so. All in all this is my second time coming here and my husband and I agree that we most likely won’t come back. I really wanted to like it.
We LOVE The Factory Kitchen! The food, drink and service were fantastic as always. we'll be back soon!
Amazing food! Great place, in my opinion this is one of the best Restaurants in LA...
We were seated at a comfortable window table at our exact reservation time. Our waiter, Olman, was courteous, knowledgeable, and efficient. He suggested that we have our selected dishes in four distinct courses and that turned to be exactly the right way to enjoy their varied tastes.
Food is just as great as ever! Love this place so much and I love taking people for whom this is their first visit. My BFF swore she was not a pesto fan so she didn’t want the Mandilli de Seta and asked if she could have another pasta “with red sauce”! I assured her this was not the typical Italian that she’s experienced and to please trust me. She knows I’m a foodie and I’ve treated her to amazing meals and yet she hesitated on trusting me with the pesto dish. Not even after I told her I’d never been a pesto fan and that every single person I knew loved this dish! I’ve been here maybe 20(?) times and always had to have the mandilli! Well finally it came and she took a bite then put her fork down saying I was absolutely right and that she loved it. Of course I knew she would! After the meal she kept talking about the dish, LOL. Loved everything else Cremosella salad, foccacina traditionale , rib-eye (first time I ordered this so I don’t recall name of dish) down to the panna cota and the best affogato in town. Remains hubby’s and my fave restaurant in DTLA!
It was my second time and the others’ first time. Everyone was impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and the food was so remarkable.
Food was amazing and the ambiance is great for a get together with friends. It’s just a little loud inside.
We loved it!
Good things about our dining experience: the prosciutto appetizer, bottle of wine and gelato dessert.
Bad things about our dining experience: the pasta entrees and the service. Our waitress didn't seem very warm and welcoming and didn't explain any of the specials to us. She then brought our entrees out when we were only halfway through our appetizer, so we had to dive into our entrees without feeling like we could take our time and enjoy our food. I was also super disappointed because two waiters recommended the Casonzei entree and it was extremely underwhelming - not flavorful at all.
Overall, outrageous prices for mediocre food, in my opinion. Not sure why this restaurant has so many outstanding reviews. Most likely will not be going back.
The atmosphere is very energetic. A bit too loud but we still managed great conversation. It's a bit dark for photographs. We tried many things on the menu, there were five of us and we shared everything.
We started with the Insalata and the Sanremese - Incredibly refreshing. The Prosciuto was perfectly thin and the Stracciatella light and airy. Fughi Ligurian Foccacina was earthy and flavorful. We ordered four pastas which turned out to be one too many. We had Mandilli di Setta - light and so flavorful, Capelli - absolutely delicious, Modenesi - secobd favorite only to the Mandilli di Setta, and Ravioli de Pesce - the one we could have done without, slightly over cooked and a bit fishy. Last but definitely not least, the Controfiletto - Perfectly cooked to a pink center-medium rare. It just melts in your mouth.
Overall had a wonderful experience. The service was great, friendly, knowledgeable. Can't wait to go back.
Another fantastic dinner at The Factory Kitchen! The entire staff was polite, efficient and helpful. The food was delicious as usual. We ordered starters, salads, porchetta, ribeye, fish and pasta - all were terrific!!
Dangerously loud. Strained our voices trying to talk. Drinks overpriced by 30-40%. McCallan 12 priced at $27...come on! On leaving our party of four unanimously agreed never to return. Three courses with drinks plus tip was $300. An unpleasant experience.
We were sat 25 minutes after our reservations and with no menu for a few minutes. The server was nice and sympathetic. Some of the dishes came cold. We got free dessert but I’ve had prior experiences before they were Michelin-started and I really let my family down because I told them so much. I love coming here and i doubt I’ll be back.
It was fun to see the pastas being made in the kitchen but all four pasta dishes our party had were not good. The salads were excellent, though, and they were huge portions. The service was terrible as we waited an hour for our pasta dishes after the salads were serve.
Food and Service is always great but it seems like they’ve been short staffed the last few times I’ve been there so it takes awhile to get orders in.
I always enjoy my dining experience at Factory Kitchen. The food is always delectable. The service is always great. Kudos to The Factory Kitchen!
Excellent find!!!... food was amazing and the parking was easy!
Dining out is an experience worth repeating again and again at The Factory Kitchen. Bravo!
Food and service, always OUTSTANDING!
Extraordinary dinner. Truly delicious and special
The only dud among a stellar array of food was the beet and cheese gratin appetizer, which was truly yucky. Our server ascertained who was the birthday person and presented a lovely dessert smoothly (thanks!). Delicious almost all the way around. Outstanding pasta amd meat dishes, fresh and lovely salad, creative cocktails, busy, loud lively ambiance.
Expensive but worth it!
We had an 8:30 reservation and didn’t get seated until 9:10. That’s not really a reservation.
Amazing! Will be coming back. Overall service, ambiance, food and the whole vibe of the restaurant was outstanding. We loved our waiter and enjoyed all buzz if he place. We were also happy that we made a reservation as so many people we’re there.
Wonderful authentic Italian food with a stocked wine list. Sample the best of Italy here!
Great place in Down town, if you haven't tried it, you should go there. The food and service was amazing.
Not sure what happened but literally every item we had was lousy. Starting with watery drinks with no alcohol, then the brussels with no taste to the pesto with no flavor to the salad that tasted like salt. Just a miss on every level and the only thing they did for us was remove one dish. Avoid.
Incredibly noisy. But the food used to compensate for the chaos. Not any more.
Food was good, noise level unbearable. Would recommend it to young people, not senior citizens. Too much noise.
Dinner with a friend for her birthday! It was my second time, her first.
Waitress was amazing and easygoing. She recommended the Melville Pinot Noir once I described my preferences which was pretty spot :)
Food at the Factory Kitchen never disappoints. Prosciutto as always was the star!! We also ordered the Casonzei and another pasta dish (with boar I want to say) that were both delish.
Friend wanted the controfiletto which was cooked perfectly. Can’t really complain but I will be back for that porchetta which I love.
We went here this past Saturday and everything was delicious! We had the field greens salad, the potato au gratin beets, the ribbon pasta pesto, and the pork belly. The salad was fresh with huge dollops of very creamy goat cheese. The au gratin was amazing with the beets and so gooey and satisfying. I don't think I have ever tasted pesto that amazing. It was velvety and I could really taste the pine nuts in it. Since I don't eat meat, I didn't try the pork belly but my husband said that it was the most delicious he has ever had and that it was not chewy or heavy. He felt it was light but still had all of the flavor. The waitstaff were also very attentive and nice without being pushy and they seemed to be working in a cohesive unit. So happy with our experience.
Great food and service
First off, we were late... horrendous traffic...but they still accommodated us. Our server was good but not great.
The food was outstanding. I’m not a pasta lover but I loved the pasta here. Especially the pasta with pesto. I didn’t even miss that we went meatless, it was that good. The fried leeks and chickpeas were bomb too.
The tables are pretty close so it can be a bit loud however it was comfortable while dining
Delicious food. Attentive service.
