I loved it there, the service, the food, and the decor were amazing.
Made us feel very special for celebrating Valentine’s Day
The servers were fun and helpful (with a perfect degree of sass) but the food/cocktails were super lack luster for the price. The dishes were small, as were the drinks. Walked away feeling hungry and broke. Also, the aesthetic was distracting: somewhere between Aspen and Japan. But not in a good way. I don’t understand why people rave about this place at all.
Food was fair. We felt rushed. The lamb sausage had a strange seasoning.
Myself and a lady friend had an early dinner reservation here on a Saturday night. The hostess at the front that night had shoulder length brown hair and heavily drawn on eyebrows, and was possibly the weirdest, most awkward, rudest, least accomodating hostess I have ever dealt with in my entire 36 years on this planet. The rest of the service staff was delightful, but I will never eat here again because of that hostess.
Enjoyed our night out, great staff
Awful! After an hour and 15 min our food never arrived so we left for our show hungry. Super frustrating. Never again!
As always, the food was excellent at the Exchange. This is our favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. We kept it simple this time. Beef Tartare, Tuna Tartare, Burnt Eggplant and Red Cabbage. And we always have olive oil cake. We love, love, love the olive oil cake.
We had reservations at 5:45. This is my one complaint. Plenty of tables, but the hostess gave us the table by the door. We are repeat customers, but not young hipsters. Don't they want older people to enjoy themselves. Why the table by the door?
Service was excellent as always.
We love the Exchange.
Unexpectedly flavorful and complex for such simple dishes. The restaurant concepts allows everyone to taste many dishes through the meal. Highly recommended.
Food and staff excellent. Noise level pretty awful. Valet parking needs more staff.
Meh: not a particularly inspired or interesting menu. Food was average at best and waitstaff, although efficient, were poorly trained: I was taking the last bite of my entree when our server swooped in and asked to take my plate. While my wife was still eating asked if we wanted our desserts. Not good
Food was delicious, altho on the salty side. Not too salty. Varied menu, and our server suggested a wine that I really enjoyed. Terrific service. Our water was kept filled, food recommendations were spot on. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, altho we got lucky. Metered parking until 8 pm.
Not a bad effort from the Exchange!
waited 30 mins to be told they were out of the wine I had chosen and offered an alternative 40 bucks dearer but no offer to cover that.
Bit pricey for what it was at 38 dollars for ONE lamb skewer.
Won't go again.
Food was great!
The food is fantastic, as is the service.
All I can say, is that I've been at this unique special and fun restaurant three times and will gladly go back. The food is outstanding. Check out the Fish picture, one of the best item on the menu,
The cocktails are out of this world. Service is exceptional..
I have been to The Exchange three or four times and have always LOVED the food and the space and the staff and the service. This time was EVEN BETTER because the music wasn’t too loud. So we had a FANTASTIC time. Totally over ordered - the hummus and baba ganoush are incredible as was the steak for two and the sweet potatoes - it well worth the extra exercise needed the next day. A well chosen wine list helped too.
Beautiful space too.
We carefully read the open table reviews and believe The Exchange is a bit overrated. The appetizers were very good, small portions but big taste. Especially a simple Humus should be ordered, a selection of different plates can be shared and makes a really good starter for a couple or a group. We also shared a special main course (recommended for two by the waiter) lamb shawarma which was simple and definitely too pricey at $65. Besides the food experience which is interesting, authentic and unique, the restaurant is casual, lively, busy - a good DTLA place to try out, but also quite loud. Music should be not as loud, hard to have a conversation. Typical also for this type of restaurant is very dim lighting, we and every other table next to us had to use the smart phone flashlight to read the menu.
Went before an art opening in the area. Great space, warm and cozy. We had 6 in our party. Server was fantastic.
This restaurant has some of the best food in LA. The flavors in all of the dishes are truly fantastic. As a DTLA resident, it’s my go-to spot when I want a fresh, flavorful meal with a good cocktail.
Our party of three had a wonderful dining experience at The Exchange. We shared three brunch items: Exchange breakfast spread, Shakshuka divorciados, and Boureka , and all of the food was delicious, with interesting flavors and textures; the dishes were well prepared and presented; and the bar and table service were excellent.
There are better places for the price. The portions are way to small. If you order the lobster, you will only get one bite of it.
Menu was illegible except with glasses and flashlight. If that. Not well explained for New Year’s Eve menu. Had to ask for clarification.
Health surcharge charged after I asked it not to be and told it wouldn’t for this special evening NYE.
$600 later for 4 people we sit for a moment in the lobby taking in the ambience and are asked to leave as we haven’t reserved a sofa. Barbara please ?!?!
Had it with hotel attitudes. Not getting my business any more. SAD!
New Year’s Eve family brunch
We can’t say enough great things about The Exchange. From the food to the staff, the whole experience is ALWAYS amazing. Making things that much better is the fact that each and every time we walk through the door, we’re treated like family. The Exchange is an absolute must for anyone visiting Downtown.
Wonderful food. Music volume started ok, but got cranked up halfway through the meal, making conversation possible. Skipped desert and fled so we could continue our conversation.
Welcomed us with sparkling wine for our anniversary
The service and staff were great. Hummus was delicious. We are very picky about hummus. They know what they are doing!!! All the salads and the sabich, and schnitzel sandwiches were like Israel. We will be coming back.
Amazing Israeli food, great cocktails and perfect atmosphere!
Amazing food and drink and service. Thanks to our red-haired waitress and amazing chef
Loved this place! The food was soooo yummy! The cocktails were on point. The staff was Devine! I’d go again and again and again.
The food, service and ambiance was amazing!
Food is great, valet a nightmare, find parking elsewhere as they try to charge your a fortune!
Food was “Wah, wah,wah”
Food was insanely good. Great atmosphere, awesome service. Perfect for a date night.
Great food, extremely noisy room with very loud music.
Absolutely fantastic experience all around.
We had a great time at the Exchange last night. We tried different appetizers such as the hummus, cauliflower, eggplant, tuna tartare , avocado salad and ended the meal with chocolate ganache and another great dessert.
The service was impeccable. We will definitely go back!
The menu was enticing throughout with unique and one of a kind taste combos and experiences. The chicken was spiced unlike anything I've encountered before. The portions were perfect and the staff was kind and courteous. Would highly recommend for a visitor to DTLA.
Our server Jackie was absolutely phenomenal. Everything she recommended was delicious and the service everyone provided was friendly and attentive. The food is fresh and creative. The ambiance is warm and trendy. I recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone.
