Considering the location this place is well below par. $50 for bacon and eggs and french toast with sausage. Ordinary white bread fro french toast? Gotta be better for the price. Coffee was $4.50! Again, not worth the high price. This is a beautiful location and a big restaurant. Has a captive audience with the location but needs to greatly improve to be worth where it is. Very uninspiring and disappointing.
Our food was brought to us, and one of the dishes were incorrect (ordered a chicken dish and was brought pasta). We quickly let the waiter know, he asked if we wanted the pasta or the chicken and my guest said he would prefer the dish he ordered. The waiter proceeded to say that it would take 15 mins to get the dish. So the other 4 of us proceeded to eat our meals, the chicken dish was brought out.
When the checks were brought to us, we had asked his the waiter had made the mistake if that portion of the meal would be compensated or discounted (as it was their mistake). The waiter proceed to say... “well you CHOSE to send the pasta back so no it won’t be compensated”. We proceed to talk with the hostess, and asked to talk to the manager.
We were told that the manager refused to come out from the kitchen to talk with us. They proceeded to try and send other waitresses out to talk to us.
After the initial waiter stated “you chose the pasta”, we were no longer worried about the compensation, but rather wanted to discuss with the manager the inappropriate customer service experience and attitude of the waiter.
Overall, the whole experience would have delightful and enjoyable if the staff was more polite and understood the way in which they present themselves to their patrons.
This restaurant is in the heart of Niagara-on-the-lake has great potential but if their customer service is poor then they will like not have repeat customers.
Very disappointing for Niagara on the Lake. Their namesake burger tasted like frozen compliments prime rib with a white kraft cheese slice on it. Condiments are Frenches Ketchup and Mustard, and Heinz Relish. Over $100 for a meal for two with each having one local $10 beer, all of which I could have easily made at home with a stop at Freshco. There are a lot of other and better options on and around Queen Street.
We enjoyed breakfast ; nice menu selections reasonable prices and very friendly wait staff.
It was a perfect evening to sit out side. We were seated on the back patio which was wonderful and quiet. The food was very good and our server was both knowledgeable and friendly.
This was the first visit of my friends to The Epicurean. I had been on 3 previous occasions. We enjoyed the great choice as 2 in our party were vegetarian. Each one of us commented on the great taste. The service was exceptional. We truly enjoyed our dining experience. Thank you.
The food was good, but nothing special. It took over an hour to have our food served. The server was very gracious and kept us updated. We really miss the cafeteria style Epicurian; it was unique in NOTL.
Staff were overwhelmed so service suffered. Generally the food was decent but we weren't informed about any specials, and water was never replenished. Even though delivery of the food was slow, we felt rushed. We really enjoyed the calamari. The Caesar was nothing special. We felt that the desserts and coffee were overpriced for what we received. Beer selection was very good.
Pastas were great. Decor was fashionable. Not very busy on a weekday in September.
The new owners of the Epicurean have returned it to its former position as one of the best dinner choices in Niagara On The Lake. The renovated facility and the food quality are great. The quiet outdoor seating area has also been revamped make it a quiet oasis for dinner and conversation. Our server was experienced, knowledgeable and friendly.
Unfortunately after we left the restaurant our party felt ill from the food that we ate. I don’t think we will be returning...
Website menu didn’t match restaurant menu. Apparently this is due to a dispute with the prior orders but was a little disappointing given we chose the restaurant based on the online menu. Service was fantastic!
Our food was good but should have been much hotter and server was new and didn’t know much but was willing to get answers to our questions.
We enjoyed conversing with our server Charlotte who provided excellent and friendly service. The mussels and Caesar salad were delicious. Wonderful atmosphere.
We made a reservation through Open Table for a time that was listed as available. We got to the restaurant and were told there were no tables available at the moment. And as an excuse, we were told “we only got your reservation in the last hour.” This is unacceptable. If a restaurant lists availability on Open Table, it should be able to accommodate patrons. Very disappointing.
We had a very nice meal, and great service from our server. The restaurant is extremely well situated close to the Royal George, making it a great spot for pre-theatre dining.
This is a nice ordinary restaurant with a very limited menu and expensive wine by the glass. Service is good and prompt.
Yes and no place. Yes, you sit outside enjoy the good weather. No, you wait long and have a food ordinary.
My husband and I ate there August 12, 2019 out on the patio. The area is nice enough but the cushion-less chairs were a bit uncomfortable, and the music coming from the next door restaurant (though not loud) felt intrusive. Our server was attentive, but not very responsive when I found a dead fly in my pasta, that had obviously flown in during the preparation of the dish. The server took it away, and when she came back, said the kitchen would make another. However, I had already eaten half (and had enough) so declined the offer. In most restaurants, that dish would have come off the check, but she made no offers. I suggested dessert and coffee instead. She said yes only to a coffee. Really????
Really disappointed with our experience. Made a reservation and were seated right away, then proceeded to sit for 15 minutes with no waiter. We saw the outdoor waiter frantically attending to other tables but never stopped by ours. When we were about to leave, another waitress came outside and took our order. I only felt bad for other tables around us, one hadn’t even gotten their food by the time we left. 2 tables near us were seated and ended up leaving because no one came to take their order. And a large scene occurred in front of the restaurant when a woman walked out and said she wasn’t paying the bill because she had waited over an hour and still hadn’t gotten her food.
The food was alright, but I will never be back to eat at this establishment unless management steps in and corrects the issues.
Horrible service. No food after 1hr 10 mins after arriving. Had to leave hungry to see a 2pm theatre show, after taking 3.5hrs to drive from Toronto.
Great apps and great wine. Karen was super courteous to us and helpful on the local area.
Staying in NOTL it’s a place with a front and back patio which we wanted to eat outside. Have to say waiter wasn’t listening when we substituted the mashed potatoes for the fries on the lamb shank which was good but didn’t offer to take back just said the mashed spuds were real good BUT you should listen first to what customer wants. Also ordered the ribs and wife asked to sub carbs for coleslaw and chef made coleslaw which wasn’t on menu. So that was good. So that’s why a mid rating.
Their website was hacked at least two weeks ago and wasn’t corrected after the site was advertising Viagra; the grouper fish on the menu was replaced by red snapper and this was at 6:00 pm on a Saturday nite; the fish was lousy and dry and I had to ask several times for a slice if lemon until my wife left the table to find a waitress. They served bread at the table but the restaurant was out of butter (at 6:00pm).
The food was beautiful and the staff were incredibly friendly and overall excellent. The ambiance was okay, I had expected more cause of the reviews but I wouldn't say it was bad by any means. My biggest issue was that I was there during the summer and inside we were getting swarmed by flies. I gather it's an inevitability of the summer but I thought the management could have done something cause the staff were trying their hardest to get rid of them with little success. Overall great food and great service and worth the visit.
Food was adequate. But terrible service. Waiter brought wrong dish to one diner, then said we’d have to wait half an hour to get right dish. No apology; no offer to comp. Toilet was backed up and disgusting. Flies were crawling all over us in the dining room. And not cheap. One of my worst dining experiences ever.
Excellent food, service and ambiance. We sat under the huge tree on the patio. Perch was superb. Steak was not bad too. Comparing to other overpriced establishments in Niagara on the Lake, this is fair value for money.
I would not go here. I can’t unfortunately review the food at all because we never actually received our order. Not to mention it claims to have gluten free options however the only thing that seemed safely gluten free was the Greek salad. We were seated for our reservation, waited 30 mins and then had to ask the hostess if we could see a waiter for drinks, he came by and gave us water and left. We waited another 30 mins before we asked the hostess for our waiter again, he took our order. We waited an additional 30 mins at which time we had not even received our drinks so we get again asked the hostess to get our waiter and tell him that we were leaving. The waiter came and when we told him we were not happy with the service, he argues with us so we left. The restaurant was not overly busy, in fact the section we were sitting in was just us. At no point did a manager come to speak with us or did the waiter apologize for the wait. He seemed annoyed that we were there at all. Definitely try another restaurant if your in NOTL.
We've been here a few times and the food is consistently very good. However this time the service did not live up to our previously high experience. We were at our table 10 minutes before the waiter came by with water, and our drinks took another 25 minutes. The bread was brought with our drinks, but the olive oil didn't show up until well after we finished the bread. We had to get up and get the pitcher of water ourselves when we needed refills. However the food was up to the usual high standards so the evening wasn't a total loss.
Had a fabulous dinner. After reading some of the more recent reviews we were a little concerned. However, we found the staff attentive and friendly and the food was delicious! No complaints here and we will definitely visit again!
We chose The Epicurean because of the price and as it turned out the food, service and ambiance
were all 5 star. I had the chicken penne with rose sauce and my wife had the feta sun dried tomatoes and stuffed chicken both our meals were yummy. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable of the wines they had. We will be back.....Soon
Dined twice at Epicurean during our 5-day stay. Enjoyed the atmosphere both inside and outside. Food is good and fair-priced for Niagara on the Lake. Both times had very nice servers.
I can’t honestly review the food or the value considering we didn’t make it to the meal. We arrived at the restaurant, which was not overly busy, at 7:45 for our reservation. The hostess looked around at many tables that were not set and sat us near the window. The server took awhile to get to us, and when she did she was very flustered. She told us that there was going to be at least an hour wait for any kind of food. This was fine as we weren’t in any sort of hurry. She came back to take our order and as we were ordering, she excused herself and left to go to another table. She came back and when we ordered appetizers she told us not to since the wait was so long. We asked her what options were available for vegans. She told us that any modifications to the menu would be a longer wait time. So we agreed to pay 25.00 for a pasta with chicken without the chicken. After the ordering ordeal. We waited 20 minutes and our glass of wine and bottle of beer had still not arrived. Other tables however were getting served. For the first time in my life, and since I had been a server for many years prior to my present career, we actually walked out. Told the hostess and left. What a horrible experience.
I am extremely disappointed in my experience with the Epicurean. I specifically booked this restaurant because I had had a great lunch at this restaurant earlier in the year in March 2019 and it was advertised online as being known for their Gluten-Friendly options. Two of my 5 guests have Celiac disease. Once seated at the restaurant, it took 15 minutes for our waitress to greet us. During this wait, I waved down the blonde hostess in which she told me she was busy. She never came by our table afterwards to follow-up. Our waitress greeted us and apologized for the wait. However, upon asking her for gluten free options, she said the Epicurean "did not have many gluten-free things." How can this be?! We asked her if certain items, like the mussels were gluten-free. She immediately said "no", but then agreed to check with the kitchen after we insisted she ask. She came back and told us "yes, the mussels are gluten free." We eventually ordered drinks and food - which took FOREVER to arrive at our table. I ordered a red sangria, only to have it arrive 15 minutes later - warm, with no ice. The table next to us eventually got up and left without paying after asking for their waitress' attention twice. I also watched as another gentleman approached a different waitress and say he had been waiting for 25 minutes - no one had been by their table. We had to ask our waitress for refills of water once dinner was served. (We had only been given one glass of water at the start). This is completely unacceptable! The wait staff looked stressed - no smiles on their faces. The blonde hostess was snapping at her brunette coworker. Overall, a very disappointing experience. My friend asked to speak to a manager at the very end - in which he was told that there was no manager on site. No wonder why the restaurant was in shambles. I can safely say that this experience was utterly disappointing and I will NEVER go back or recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Food was mediocre, but our waitress was excellent. The garden at the Epicurean is very pleasant and relaxing.
We had reservations, and the hostess greeted us and seated us immediately. Our server was very personable and efficient, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I forgot to tell our server about a food allergy, but when the meal came and I told her, she substituted something else without missing a beat. We absolutely recommend this restaurant!
Great menu and friendly staff. Will definitely go again.
We made a reservation for Saturday and not told there was no A/c on the hottest day of the year.
We asked our hostess if their was A/c full intending to stay and eat regardless, instead we got her rolling her eyes at us saying “it’s not working for the millionth time”
We got up and walked right out. To have her saying “bye” to our backs as we pushed opened the doors to leave. This hostess with the blonde hair would never work for me.
We’re business owners and we know things are out of our control but we also know that communication can make EVERYTHING better, even in the worst of situations.
You should have been informing your guests as they arrived that the A/C was not working and calling all those who made reservations. I guarantee even if they didn’t show up for their reservation they would back to dine with you.
Not us though.
When we arrived at restaurant we noticed it was hot inside. We asked the receptionist if the air conditioner was working, and she said " I don't know ". We were seated and were sweating profusely - it was one of the hottest day so far- aqnd agian asked our server about the air conndioter. His answer aws : it is working but with the door opening frequently it was not enough.
It was indeed very hot inside and we finally asked the manager, who was the only one who told us the TRUTH : the aircondioner WAS BROKEN !!! By that time we had already been at the restaurant for 20 minutes, so could not leave because we had to go to a play afterwards. We were finally seated in the patio, where the temperature was slightly better. I find it unacceptable that we were not told upfront the truth ! We could have made our decision not to stay then. A good customer service would even post a notice on the door, specially in an extremely hot day !
