The Empire at 138 Ratings and Reviews
I took my beautiful wife out to celebrate privately and we couldn’t be more pleased. Our waitress Kate was attentive and friendly with extensive knowledge of the menu. We had halibut with risotto, micro greens ,and spinach that was perfect! I have been here three times and it is worth it! Definitely recommend it!
Our first time there and we were not overly impressed. Seasonal beers out of stock. Noise level prevented us from hearing the waiter announce the specials even when asking the waiter to come in closer. Slow service on bar items, orders being taken, after being delivered and had to ask several times for items to be refilled. Food was good so will probably try this place again but all for seating on the other side. All seating on the same side as the bar was very cold everytime the door was opened. Made the dining experience uncomfortable and rushed.
Great food and atmosphere, I have been here several occasions and always have great food and service. This time however there were a few minor issues with the service. I ordered a glass of Wine and was delivered a mini bottle of wine, but no glass. The Server walked away before I realized so I had to wait until he came back about 5 minutes later to ask for a glass and then pour my own wine. There were 6 of us at a small round table and repeatedly asked the server to take empty items away to have more room at the table. At the end two of the guests had food to take home in boxes and the server quickly grabbed the plates and disappeared to the kitchen without asking if we wanted boxes for our food. By the time he came back there was no option to get the other half of the meal back. Overall the food did not disappoint, but with several of the guests being first time visitors and missing half of their meal I am not sure they will return. I will however continue to return and enjoy the great food.
Went with family, party of 4, for holiday dinner. Adorned with holiday lights and tree. Historic building with exposed brick backdrop decorated with black and white portraits, and distressed wood floors. Elegant place settings. Our server, Allie, was perfect. Vegan options were terrific! Live piano music had us playing "Name That Tune." One of the owners was present and elaborated on the historic wooden bar that we'd heard about on a pre-opening tour of the place when it was still in the works. It's a very lovely place and we were thrilled to make our first visit a celebratory one for the holidays and my recent graduation. Price point was very reasonable for vegan fare, which tasted fabulous and plentiful, so much we took home a sack and had lunch the next day! We will visit again, next time for lunch which has even more vegan options. Thanks, Empire 138, for making this classy place a part of our town!
An amazing find in downtown Tiffin, a small city that is a great destination for a fine meal. The food is excellent as is the service. The decor and atmosphere exude late 19th century class and style. The tin ceiling alone and bar is worth seeing. Service is first-class. An extra is the new Bourbon Bar across the street for an aperitif. An midweek evening was crowded with holiday diners. All A+++!
A brief mix-up about who was to wait on us was resolved by a hostess and our eventual waitress. I had to ask a waiter who avoided us for 10 minutes if someone was assigned to wait on our table. He condescending said, "Well, of course!" and then mumbled something about checking. He never came back to our table specifically and continued to avoid eye contact. Then a hostess came over and said there was a change in our server and this young lady would now be waiting on us. The hostess and our server were very attentive and polite and smoothed over the situation with the elusive first waiter. The food was excellent and I would highly recommend this establishment.
Please be aware that when they tell you there is an upcharge, they may charge you the original full price of the item. We ordered a filet and asked to substitute the french onion soup in place of the soup of the day (which you can either get the soup of the day or a salad with your meal). The waitress told us there would be an upcharge which we agreed to assuming it wasn't the full price of the soup had you ordered it alone. When the bill came, they charged us what the french onion was stated at full price in the menu for. Truly, we were shorted a salad because we could have chosen a salad that comes with our meal and ordered the soup in addition and would have been charged the same. That was my only complaint as the food was wonderful.
My husband and I were in for our anniversary. I have been there several times for lunch, but was excited to check out their supper menu. It did not disappoint! My husband had the salmon and he said it was the best salmon he has ever had. I chose the evening special, surf and turf. It came with melt in your mouth steak and a crab stuffed lobster tail. Our server was very professional and friendly. The atmosphere was great, and our bill was the same as what we would normally pay at a popular chain restaurant (where the food and atmosphere are not near as good)
We will definitely be back!
This restaurant was recommended by 2 different friends. Personally, my husband and I loved the total experience! Very classy, eclectic atmosphere. Great food. Loved the live piano music. The wait staff was very attentive to detail and took time to explain things. We will definitely return!
What a surprise!!! I was born and raised in Tiffin and have not lived there since high school graduation in 1966. I get back there for reunions, and this recent trip was to meet a friend who was being honored at an event at Tiffin University. I had heard from several people about The Empire, so I met my friend from Dayton and his family and some of his friends there. It was top notch from start to finish; very good service with a waitress who was well prepared and knowledgeable. Cocktails were great; the lollipop lamb chops appetizer was cooked perfectly, well seasoned and very tasty. I ordered one if the specialties - red snapper, and it was fabulous. As a foodie, I would definitely return. Others at my table were not used to a fine fining experiences , and some were well travelled and sophisticated in their tastes - all raved about their experience. And to top it off, the manager stopped by - turns out as a child he used up be dragged by his mother to the women’s clothing store two doors down from the restaurant. That store was owned and operated by my parents until they left Tiffin in the early 1970’s. Lots of memories!!!!
