The Embankment has become one of the premier spots in the heart of Bedford. The clue to our location is in the name! Bedford’s beautifully-landscaped Embankment has wonderful views out over the River Great Ouse. The Embankment Hotel was built in 1891 and we renovated it to reflect its late-Victorian heyday, but with all the modern comforts and facilities of a great pub. The atmosphere is relaxed and hospitable. There is no stuffy hotel lobby or residents’ lounge, just a team of friendly faces to look after you.

    Went there with the family to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Had heard good things but left slightly disappointed as having ordered a steak which was sent back 3 times for not being cooked to my liking. Didn’t like to complain but it wasn’t right. The staff were polite, attentive and dealt with it all well but I’d lost my appetite after the 3rd attempt. The rest of my family had eaten and enjoyed their meals so didn’t want to wait any longer for mine. Not sure we would rush back and as I said slightly disappointing as our first post lockdown meal out and for a special occasion.

    very nice roast dinner -the vegetables were more al dente than we would have liked but overall very tasty

    overall it would have been a 5 star review, the only thing that let the embankment down was that the table my party of six was sitting and was of poor quality, it shoke and wobbled every time someone put a drink down or tried to eat food from it. I did advise the staff but they said they couldn’t help.

    It's now overpriced and can't remember the last time I felt so underwhelmed after going out for a meal. I understand the last year means things have been tough and it maybe finding it's feet after such a long break in hosting but my steak was cold and the scallops 8 for 50 pounds is completely ridiculous at £12.50 a starter, the cocktail I was served looked like a slush puppy and tasted awful. £9.50 I expect a trained cocktail maker to provide me with what I am paying for. Otherwise it was fine

    Thanks for review- we are very puzzled by the prices you are mentioning for the scallops? Pan-fried Native Scallops, Watercress & Tartare Hollandaise is a starter we serve for £12. So if you would like that as a main course we would double it bringing the cost to £24. We would like to chat further as these prices you are mentioning are odd.
