The Elgin’s 4 main principals, Peter Pernicone, Darwin Conner, Paul Baum & Christine Trauben, have known each other for 30 years. They all grew up on the lower west side of NYC in Chelsea, before going their separate ways after college. Although each pursued careers in different fields, they had a goal of owning a bar together & could not be more excited about opening The Elgin. As an acknowledgment of their collective history, they named a signature cocktail—the “Chelsea 1724”—after their neighborhood. Darwin & Paul grew up in Chelsea on 17th street and Peter & Christine lived on 24th street. They are joined by Patrick Callaghan who has been working with
Really underwhelming cocktails, especially for the price. I have no problem paying $18 for a cocktail, but it better be memorable. Very disappointing.
Food was outstanding
The food was fantastic!! Ambience great!
Overall it was a good experience. A little loud, but not offensively and the service was prompt and attentive. Had the avocado toast and calamari appetizers. Generous portions and tasty. Can’t really say anything bad about the evening but nothing really stood out as outstanding.
Was good hope to go back soon
Very young crowd. Noisy and busy. Sat in back booth and the food wasn’t bad. My friend had the Elgin salad that she enjoyed. I had the chicken sandwich and it was good. Great for young single type after work. The bar looked like the better place to sit even though the noise level was extremely loud.
Food was great, service attentive, nice decor
Fun vibe, food far above average with tasty cocktails. I wasn’t expecting much more than a midtown bar but it exceeded my expectations. Good food, good drink. I’ll be back. Soon.
Crazy loud, guys screaming for no reason at tables nearby....poor service, whipped ricotta that was just flat melted mush on board. Mushy brussel sprouts. Good sirloin sliders though.
Couldn't make any drink we wanted (missing juices).
Yeah, not going back
Excellent service as usual. Food was great, had the double burger. Highly recommend it!
Seated in back dining area, very cramped tables, dark and loud. I think our waiter forgot about us. Food was average, had to ask for water refills and wanted a cup of decaf coffee after meal, waiter snapped “no, we don’t have that.”
Didn’t feel welcome after the waitress found out we only wanted apps and beers.
Fantastic experience, good food & our group had a private corner to enjoy conversation, I would definitely go back.
