We visited Eclectic for Easter Sunday Brunch. We had a toddler in tow... we mostly enjoyed the experience, though I am sure it would have been better if it had not been Easter Sunday and we didn't have a little one in the party. The food was good (particularly the Croque Madame) though there was some confusion regarding pancakes... we thought it read "short stack" which was why we asked for a single to come out quickly to give to the toddler, but it was actually more of a German style pancake which is huge and takes quite a while to come out. The staff was very pleasant and very accommodating, especially since it seemed the kitchen got a little behind with so many larger parties ordering. Would like to try it out under different circumstances. It is a loud place (lots of hard surfaces) so not necessarily a great place for quiet conversation if that's what you're in for, but it is comfortable and casual and would seem to be a great neighborhood spot. Looking forward to trying it again for dinner sometime.
Loved the new Eclectic! After a rough transition, this NOHO staple has re-emerged with a more upscale, fine dining with an edge feel. Flavors are layered and more nuanced than your typical gastropub. In fact the only gastropub thing in the menu was the Brussel sprouts which were good.
We ate at the bar. Bartender Dave was fast, fun, and made a great drink. The owner/chef came and talked to us. The kale salad was good but was too huge. We ordered the awesome shrimp wontons, and splurged on the halibut. The food was all great with complex flavors that were truly delicious!
We will be back!
Highly Recommend! Excellent food, service and atmosphere! We loved this restaurant! We came as a large group with teens, parents and grandparents, before a show at the El Portal theater. This was an excellent choice!
good food, the rib eye steak was a little fatty/chewy but had good flavor.
Some of the dishes were quite good (Sweetpotato fries, Eggplant Parmigiana, Mac an Cheese), but the lasagna was over-cooked and not all that flavorful. We went as a pre-theater dinner and arrive around 6:20 which we thought would give us plenty of time to make an 8:00 concert just down the street. However, while the staff is very friendly and tried to be attentive, they are just so under-staffed that we barely got our food in time to make the show, and had to ask several times where things were. Also courses all came out at different times. To of our party got salads reasonably soon, but not drinks, and my salad came just before the others received entree's.
We were one of the first (or only) table for dinner when we arrived. Table service is extremely slow, even when empty. We put our order in before the place filled up and our food still took what felt like hours to come. We heard the table next to us complain to the waitress that no one had come over to take their order and they’ve been sitting there 20 minutes. It seems there is only 1 server for the entire place. Good is good. Staff is friendly. But service and kitchen speed needs work. Don’t go here if you’re in a hurry.
We were only the 4th table, but the 'Waitress' was so inattentive it was like a bad SNL skit. We ordered 3 of the special (fried chicken) that was so undercooked it was bloody, 1 lasagna & 1 chicken fettuccine that were both so bland (salt was no help). Waitress wasn't very concerned & almost indignant that we sent the chicken back. It took TWO hours to end up with such bad food & bad service. I hate to be so decisively critical but this place worked hard to EARN every bit of this review.
I couldn't ask for a nicer upscale restaurant to be so conveniently located, within walking distance of our building!
I have always liked this restaurant. Our waiter was a joy. He knew the menu, answered all of our questions and even let us split the bill three ways. The food was delicious, as always. We selected this place because it is consistently good and has a wide variety on vegan and vegetarian choices. I had the salmon. It was cooked perfectly and paired with just the right amount of potatoes and broccoli. Other members of our party made a meal out the appetizers and veggie sides.
Friendly and efficient service coupled with excellent food. What more could you ask for.
Great day at the Eclectic!
Service was great, the food tasty and interesting, a really enjoyable experience. The Brussels Sprouts and poached egg dish was sublime.
I have always liked Eclectic. It did seem as if it was not as crowded as usual. The greeter/person at desk also took our order after I waved her over. She was delightful. Menu changed and I missed the wedge salad they used to have on the menu.
Stopped in after a movie had some small plate s to share we thought that the food was comparable to The Bellwether which to say very good and inventive will be back
The wall of 'art' and other hangings are awful ... the menu limited without any sort of regular green salad ... gotta go Kale or Beets which are not bad, but not to have a simple green salad option to accompany a meal is disappointing. IF a restaurant is going to go as avant-garde as they seem to want to be ... share it with classy art and a menu that might also include some food descriptions that one might be able to decipher without the help of the service staff. You must NOT be in a hurry as even the delicious chicken takes 35 minutes to come out of the kitchen ... steak for two also very good, but takes 35 minutes ... GREAT ...it's freshly cooked, but .... rethink this new look, ambiance and menu for Eclectic Café ... PLEASE ... we used to love you ... more reasonably priced and more options ...
Wine sucked; had to try several before settling on a passable one.
Slow service. Salmon entree was disappointing - expected crispy skin but skin wasn’t cooked enough. There was a smear of mashed potatoes on the plate- I wanted more. Lighting was harsh in the restaurant - ambience was better before.
Service was absolutely horrible!!! And no one seemed to care. Many people walked out as they never got their food. We left before one course was served. We waited forever. The restaurant was not full and there appeared to be a lot of servers. Our server never apologized and seemed to care less.
The food was good but the service was AMAZING. Our server Gabriel was very attentive, always keeping our mimosa glasses full. He let us chill for as long as we wanted, always keeping an eye on us, in case we needed/wanted anything. The brunch meal we ordered were delicious. Looking forward to going back.
Service of food was slow and that appeared to be a kitchen problem, not that of the server. Overall a good experience
Always very good food and service. We will surely come back again.
My BFF & I have declared this our favorite Brunch place! I didn't know this until my last visit, but Sunday is Pajama Day! We are TOTALLY doing that next time we go! Such a fun idea!
Happy hour specials include wine and good margarita pizza. Lobster bisque was outstanding
Three people were standing outside the restaurant looking at the menu. They couldn't decide whether to give this establishment a try. As I noticed them chatting I approached them and expressed my opinion with this restaurant. I told them proudly, try this place you won't be disappointed. The service is great and the food is delicious. They never disappoint. So give this place a try.
My friend said the restaurant must have changed ownership because he said everything used to be "eclectic" -- plates and utensils did not match, but he said it was all in very good taste. The walls are in desperate need of paint -- scuff marks, stains, grease marks, etc. The food was good, not outstanding. A VERY LOUD woman was in the restaurant and it was very disruptive to enjoying our meal.
We have been longtime patrons of the Eclectic. On this Sunday Brunch visit, we came to celebrate my wife's birthday. Our usual waiter Brian was delightful as always and happy to see us. Among the delicious plates ordered were the Huevos Rancheros, Chilaquiles, French Toast and some repeated rounds from their Bloody Mary Bar! And it's always a pajama party with the staff during Sunday Brunch! We left satisfied ... then again, when have we not been?
The Eclectic Restaurant is a nice quiet place and the food was good. The service was very good with the waiter being very attentive, but didn't interrupt our conversation. The place was absolutely dead on a Saturday night at 8:00. There were no more than 3 couples in the place which scared us a little bit when we first got there. Everyone was friendly and I don't know if the restaurant is new or just in a bad location being around a lot of out of business stores to be so dead.
I would NOT recommend this restaurant. The food is overpriced and the atmosphere sucks! We only went here because it was walking distance.
Have not been to Eclectic in quite a while, but always remember it as being a fun venue. Took my mother and wife for Mother's Day, and the food was spectacular. Every dish was a hit, and everyone was sampling off of each other's plates. Absolutely delicious.
Server was fabulous, making every effort to be accommodating, which was greatly appreciated, and added to the overall experience.
Cannot recommend this place highly enough!
I brought my mom here for Mother's Day, and we enjoyed it. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. My only complaint, which is common in North Hollywood, was parking.
2nd time eating here. The menu, food and service are all very good.
Pleasantly surprised! I've never been there and it's been around a long time. Food was very good and plentiful, appropriate temperature and yummy. Dessert was decadentt, triple chocolate brownie with caramel sauce and ice cream. What could be bad! Service was a little slow and there were only 3 tables full. I would say they ought to change their bread. The first batch was hard and then next was hot and good but very messy with topping. Staff was very cordial and welcoming. I would go back. R
Good for brunch - they kept the champagne flowing. Food was good. A really good deal. Best was the attentive service.
There are some wonderful finds on the menu well-done by the kitchen. The service is outstanding, and the ambience elegant but inviting. Highly recommend the Braised Shortribs, the Pork Chops, and the Beef Stroganoff (a special of the day). The desserts are equally enjoyable, as are the wine & cocktail offerings. My friends and I now come here on our quarterly gatherings and love it! Highly recommended!
Great food, great service and would go back again. The fish was very flavorful and so was the baked potato. Took us a minute to find it but that was our fault. This definitely a place I want to go back to and try the chicken.
Great food, super service, great vibe and easy street parking on Sunday. Super neighborhood
Good food! Slow service.
Another excellent meal. We've been coming here for over 20 years and have never been disappointed. I recommend any of the risotto dishes. Excellent service as well.
The Eclectic was the first nicer place we went to when we moved to Los Angeles 10 years ago and it's been a favorite ever since. We hadn't been in a while so we went for my husband's birthday last weekend. I have to say the food was mediocre at best (I got the Kobe Burger). They used to have fresh focaccia bread and now it's a plain generic bread. And the worst part is that they used to play mello jazzy music in keeping with the ambiance of the entire space. And this time they played hectic hard rock very loudly. It made me feel like I had to rush through eating in a manic way and it wasn't relaxing at all. I am not sure we'll ever return.
