The Ebbitt Room continues to shine as one of Cape May’s most elegant and thoughtfully curated dining experiences. Set within the historic Virginia Hotel, it blends old-world charm with a modern farm-to-table ethos—and on most fronts, it delivers impressively. We began with their celebrated salt and honey dinner rolls, which alone could anchor a meal. Warm, delicately sweet, and perfectly paired with whipped butter, they set a strong tone of attentiveness and flavor. Paired with the Blackberry Smash—a bourbon-based cocktail that struck a sophisticated balance of fruit and bite—we were immediately at ease. Dinner was a well-paced and largely delightful affair. The coconut curry was a standout: fragrant, warming, and layered with subtlety. It showed restraint where others might have leaned into blunt heat or over-spicing. The roast chicken, often a litmus test for any fine kitchen, was superb—tender, herbaceous, and complemented by earthy accompaniments that highlighted seasonal produce. The one misstep came with the vichyssoise. While the chilled potato-leek base was creamy and classic, the kitchen had added several flourishes—microgreens, perhaps a drizzle of infused oil—that muddled the purity and elegance of the dish. Sometimes simplicity is its own luxury, and this felt like a case where less would have been more. The only other drawback was ambient rather than culinary: a subtle hum from nearby mechanical equipment disrupted the otherwise idyllic garden setting. It wasn’t overpowering, but enough to slightly detract from the experience of dining al fresco on what should have been a serene evening. Still, none of this outweighed the quality of the food or the warmth of the service. The Ebbitt Room remains a Cape May institution for a reason: its commitment to refinement, hospitality, and a menu that, on the whole, celebrates both local bounty and timeless technique. Recommended dishes: Coconut Curry, Roast Chicken, Salt & Honey Rolls, Blackberry Smash Minor

Food was outstanding. Waitress was great. But, we had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. Since I started using this app I never waited more than 10 minutes anywhere to be seated. They should’ve texted us to let us know

The Parker Rolls and butter are delicious. The salad and Deviled Eggs are both excellent starters. The Scallops entree is my favorite after several times dining there recently. All the Dessert options are incredible.

The restaurant is very pretty. Service was great, although they were out of of the first wine we ordered so it took a while to get dinner going. The food was good, but nothing special considering the prices. Wine prices were very high, with not many options under $100. Disappointing.

Food was good but portions are small for the money spent. Plus very little options for kids. It’s good place to visit once.

We enjoyed the Mother’s Day Prix Fixe specials and the quiet of an early seating. The Dark Manhattan was great and the Cape May Scallops were some of the best we’ve had. Milos took care of us with humor and and a great eye. A truly enjoyable experience for a special occasion.

I was so excited to check this place out as I had been told it was the best in the area so I made a reservation when I booked the trip in December as it was for my moms Birthday and Mothers day. I will say we were a little let down over all. When we were being sat the waitress next to us was talking to her table and didn't move to let my mom get in to sit down. One would think as a waitress you would move to let a diner seat down while still talking to your table or at least say oh one sec while she moved to let my mom sit down. Then we ordered drinks and they were give to us what I ordered and what she ordered to each other but the bigger problem was that my wine glass was dirty with lip stick and the waiter didn't come back for awhile to check so we had to wave him down to let him know the issue which he did correct right away but at a place of this standard and price point you expect a better quality and dirty glasses isn't one of them. Over all the food was good and the waiter was good after the wine mishap but if I am at a place like this I expect the highest in service and quality. We were just a bit let down over all and the celebration was then a bit of a let down for her since it didn't start out that great.

I made a reservation through open table and SPECIFIED that it was my daughters birthday and I wanted a cake. I called 5 days in advance to confirm and got a very nasty man on the phone that told me they needed at least a week to make a cake. Basically, it was a screw you!! At a place that is supposedly one of the top restaurants in the area, the fact that there was no acknowledgement of my request in the reservation and then his snotty response - I seriously doubt we will return. A grocery store cake would have been fine. Any kind of positive response than this.
