1) Large public surface lot that occupies the entire city block, bounded by Huron, First, Washington and Ashley. Entrances are on Ashley (northbound) and First (southbound). This lot is "kitty-corner" from our entrance.
2) City parking structure on E. Washington (1 1/2 blocks east of The Earle)
3) City structure (very large and always has space) on North Ashley (2 blocks north of The Earle)
4) Street (no meters after 6PM)
On Friday and Saturday we have a soft jazz trio (usually piano, bass and drums). The trio plays from 8:30pm until close. No cover anytime.
Our 52nd anniversary was celebrated in the cozy surroundings of The Earle. The food was superb as were the mixed drinks. My husband’s Delmonico steak and my whitefish were delectable.
The service could have been quicker but, over all a very nice experience.
An excellent meal with very good service. We both had the salmon in phyllo dough which never fails to be great. We used a Local Flavor voucher which made the meal an excellent bargain. We also needed some management assistance on another matter and the manager was very helpful.
I had written a special request on my reservation, for a cozy booth where we could see and listen to the jazz trio. They saved us the perfect booth in the restaurant. The night was perfect. We celebrated my wife's birthday. It was cozy and romantic, and dimly lit and quiet enough to chat yet still hear the live jazz. My wife's favorite is the Beef Tenderloin with Roquefort sauce. It is amazing! The wine list is extensive and very good. This is our favorite restaurant for a cozy "date night" or a special occasion like birthdays or anniversaries. The Earle is an Ann Arbor institution and I hope it never closes or changes too much. We love it so much.
Lived in the area for a long time and this was our first experience. It was wonderful and we will be back.
Good place with excellent service. We followed some recommendations from the waiter and our choices were great.
We frequently enjoy dining at The Earle. It's the best downtown Ann Arbor Restaurant... consistently excellent cuisine, service and ambiance. We have never had a less than great experience there.
Have been going to the Earle for 41 years and have never been disappointed. One of the best Happy Hours in the city of Ann Arbor, in the bar. Mussels for 3.50 from 5:30 until 6:30. 20% off food and drinks in the bar only, Mon-Fri. The duck breast is the best I have ever eaten anywhere in the United States! The desserts are always creative and really good. Enjoy music during the week, trios, and solo guitar and piano. We celebrate anniversaries, restaurant week, Happy Hour almost every Friday. There are lots of choices on the menu. Their dinner salad is a steal. Probably, my most favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor.
Dim lighting in a romantic setting with live music.
It was a good experience! The food was really good. Loved the live jazz music. The atmosphere was nice too. Our table felt like a regular ol' diner table, but that obviously didn't ruin our evening.
Restaurants come and go in Ann Arbor, but The Earle remains a stalwart, reliable, dependable and enjoyable dining experience. Service is personable and attentive. The wine list is incredibly extensive yet will not break your bank balance. There are good deals to be found on the list! And the food - delicious Provencal comfort food with a gourmet flair. Around the holidays, for celebratory meals - make The Earle a destination. The place looks wonderful with lights and greenery. If you love jazz standards, you'll love the The Earle.
Great service! Attentive but not intrusive. Try the frozen hazelnut souffle! The only thing that kept me from a 5 star rating on the food was too much salt on both of our entrees. Everything else made up for it though. Will be back for sure!
This place is an Ann Arbor staple, and with good reason. It's exactly what you want in a classic French-style subterranean restaurant, with terrific atmosphere, a small menu, and a large wine list. A perfect spot for a quiet conversation at a private booth or table. Definitely recommended.
Everything was great from the appetizers to entrees... we all over induldged. Dwayne, our server was great. We couldn't have asked for a better venue to begin our weekend celebration!
A team that has been together for ~30+ years and they know about service; Joe, Dennis, Bruce, etc., all pitch in as one team to make this a great experience. We’ve been coming here since ‘95!
The Earle is a reliable, solid, not incredibly creative but good food. The food isn't spectacular, but it's fine. The servers are friendly and helpful. The ambiance is wonderful for quiet conversation, unlike most restaurants these days (where the decibel level is so high you can't think let alone speak). The atmosphere is lovely, calm and inviting.
Fabulous place- one of our favorites. I always feel special dining there. Service and food are outstanding!
The French Country Levain bread was a real treat along with the Delmonico Steak...Yum!!!
We went to the Earle for a birthday celebration and were thrilled to learn of the birthday discount. The selection was extensive--it was hard to decide-- and the wine list was amazing. The staff was responsive and the pace was relaxed. The food was delicious! We'll definitely return.
We came for a date, so we wanted it to be special. We drove 1.5 hours for mostly the ambience. When we got there we were pleasantly surprised with the look and feel of the dining area. It wasn't loud, the lighting was fantastic and dim, and when we got there the live music started. It wasn't overbearing but it was so nice and casual. Our servers were Jeff and Anna, and I couldn't be happier with our service. They were on top of everything, kind, funny, and recommended things to us. Overall, it was worth the drive and we had a fantastic evening.
The Earle is an oldie but goodie. Classic Steak Au Poivre and and decent options to choose from. Live music.
Very good food and enjoyable. I would say for the price it is not as consistently excellent as I would have hoped. My beef dish was excellent but the accompaniments were mediocre. The dessert was just okay. The last time I ate here the dessert was excellent but the food was mediocre.
Our favorites on the menu are the duck and scallops, magnificent as usual, creme brulee, escargot, choc mousse very good. Took kids along for the first time, wife's birthday dinner, they made simple pasta for my son which worked out perfectly, my daughter just had the rice ball appetizer which wasn't a good choice. Cappuccino wasn't as good as I remembered.
The Earle is like stepping back in time. And I mean that in the most positive way. When you get things right, stick with it.
Great atmosphere, attentive service, outstanding food, light Jazz on the weekends.....it doesn't get much better.
I can't go there without having the smoked whitefish appetizer and Panzanella salad. The Veal and Sea Scallops have been on the menu for years, and they get it perfect every time.
Highly recommended you won't be disappointed.
I would not consider this fine dining! It was old, out dated and smelled of musty basement. The food was ok and the service was pleasant but the overall experience was sub par. We will never return.
We always enjoy the Earle. Since we thought that they were closed Sunday and Monday in the summer and went on a Tuesday. We could not use the birthday special, but used a groupon. Everyone enjoyed their meal altho the veal scallopini had so much cheese, it overwhelmed the flavor or the dish. Will order something else next time.
This was my first time visiting the Earle. I was quite impressed. The atmosphere, the food, and the music were fantastic. Even if you don't want to have a full meal here, I would highly recommend having a drink or two while listening to the live jazz music.
Cocktails now rival Knights! Great meal!
As usual The Earle was a wonderful dining experience. The service was impeccable. The menu has so many selections, there is always something for everyone. We were celebrating a 70th. birthday & The Earle did not disappoint. Also we enjoyed the music.
One of our favorites. Love the food. I do wish they would change up some of their dessert options. They make a great tried and true creme brulee, but I wouldn't miss the rest...tired.
The Earle certainly lived up to it’s reputation. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal and thought it was one of the best they ever had. Wine list is outstanding. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Enjoyed the music.
Great food. Basement and no windows but intimate and quiet
Top flight food and drink; great service by attentive staff; nicely paced meal. Will we be back? You bet!
Seemed very understaffed. Had to keep asking for service to get drinks, order and finally get food. Food was great. Did not seem too busy but was busier than usual I guess on a Wednesday night.
everything was fantastic. the ambiance was great, as was the food, the music, and the service. my only knock on the whose thing is that it was a little loud, so much so that my wife and i overheard a guy obliviously crashing and burning on a first date... while it was pretty hilarious, we could have done without it.
We visited the Earle to celebrate our 57th anniversary and it was terrific - great food and wine and especially the service by Caitlin. It was a little noisy, but the hostess seated us in the most quiet place possible. Every employee seemed to know it was our anniversary and wished us a happy anniversary. extremely satisfied and will certainly return. - James
Returned to the Earle after a long unexplained absence. The food and service were as remembered, impressive. Absolutely no reason to stay away.
Always a great time for our small group! Great ambience, appetizers & wine.
Hostess seated us per our request and was welcoming. Servers were great, friendly and attentive. We ordered our favorite dish, salmon en croute, always wonderful. Desserts were delicious. A perfect Father’s Day Dinner.
