1) Large public surface lot that occupies the entire city block, bounded by Huron, First, Washington and Ashley. Entrances are on Ashley (northbound) and First (southbound). This lot is "kitty-corner" from our entrance.
2) City parking structure on E. Washington (1 1/2 blocks east of The Earle)
3) City structure (very large and always has space) on North Ashley (2 blocks north of The Earle)
4) Street (no meters after 6PM)
On Friday and Saturday we have a soft jazz trio (usually piano, bass and drums). The trio plays from 8:30pm until close. No cover anytime.
OK food. Certainly better than 90% of restaurants but uninspired preparation.
Birthday celebration and the Earle never lets us down!
The food was exceptional but the service was lacking. We have been to the Earle many times with excellent service and was surprised with the lack of attention our table received.
It took almost an hour to get food after ordering.
Excellent food and service! Celebrated our wedding anniversary and even received a gift certificate from the restaurant- what wonderful surprise!
Everyone in our group LOVED their food!! The service was excellent and the ambiance was wonderful. The food is pricey but not overpriced for the quality that you’re getting. Perfect for special occasions.
Great atmosphere, friendly reception, excellent wait staff. Good venue. Prompt, service even on a crowded Friday night. Reasonably quiet, but a little bit of properly placed sound attenuation would have made it really quiet and cozy. Nice wine list. Average food, and pricey, but that's Ann Arbor. Okay presentation. Appetizers and deserts excellent. The chef did figure out a way to make two traditional main dishes very imaginative, but not as good tasting as they could have been. For us, he/she should have left the cheese off the veal and cut the garlic at least in half. For the pasta, adding just a small amount of marinara or EVO, slightly more pasta, and reducing the amount of crumbled sausage, would have made the dish perfect. The veggies were overcooked and tasted like they had come frozen in a bag and then steamed. Having said that, this is a fine restaurant that's been around a long time. Their food has to be good on average, or they'd have been gone long ago. This experience could have been somewhat of an aberration. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone not expecting perfection.
Filet was excellent. Lake Perch was excellent too. We came too early to hear the jazz but when we do see it we really like it.
Certainly not our first time. But this was a special night - the 50th anniversary of our first meeting.
To my surprise there were a lot of wines by the bottle at very good prices (in the 20s) That's unusual these days in a restaurant. Of course they have a lot of more impressive wine if that's what you want. But for this restaurant, I'm voiding my "drink wine at home, not out rule".
The Whitefish, Veal Scallopini, Salmon, and Lamb were all excellent and generous without being absurd.
Excellent food and very attentive service.
I couldn't believe how tender and flavorful the stake was, plus a very good wine at a reasonable cost
We had a fabulous time at the Earl. It is a hidden underground gem in Ann Arbor. Highly recommend for an evening out with anyone special:)
Be prepared to spend an hour and a half from ordering to receiving food and wine which when they finally arrive are terrific. Too few wait staff and a too small kitchen for the size of the room.
This is now a former favorite. 7pm booking, order at 7:30, dinner at 9pm. We had to flag down the waiter to order drinks and food.
Wonderful meal as always. All 4 of us enjoyed what we'd ordered, and the service was excellent and attentive without being overbearing. The Earle never disappoints.
Always impeccably delicious and beautifully served.
The Earle is my favorite place to eat.
I especially enjoy the French cuisine.
The atmosphere , piano and guitar music make the wonderful food and service even more enjoyable!
I will be back soon!
My husband and I went here for our first wedding anniversary and the food, service and atmosphere was perfect! Our hostess and wait staff all wished us a happy anniversary. We had crab cakes and roasted garlic for a starter and for dinner we had sea scallops and grilled salmon. We will be going here again in the future! Would totally recommend this place!
2nd time dining here. Not as great as the first time. Service is good, ambiance is unique, however decor might need some refreshment. Food was not as good as 1st time. Would recommend it.
Great wine list and the food was phenomenal! Always a great treat for special occasions.
The Earle never fails. Delicious food cooked perfectly. Live background music. Amazing wine choices. Discreet service. This is our absolute favorite place to meet friends or dine out.
Was a special occasion, service was ok, I had better
Waiter was nice. Kitchen a little slow but very busy.
The food is always delicious, just the right temperature and portions.
Excellent menu and wine list. Great meal in a great place.
We have been enjoying The Earle for special occasions ever since we moved to Ann Arbor, 23 years ago.
The Earle, continues to be our "restaurant of choice" for making that special occasion so special.
From the moment you walk downstairs into a sophisticated yet cozy dining space, to the superb attention to detail from the servers and can't say enough about the delicious food...it all adds up to truly a dining experience!
The Earle never ceases to amaze, from the food to the knowledgeable staff. The sommelier steered my date and I to a bottle of wine that was delicious, especially for someone who doesn’t drink much wine. The Earle is one of my favorites in Ann Arbor and that won’t change.
The wine list is spectacular- the sommelier was knowledgeable and kind.
I had a rustic pasta dish with asparagus, lemon and goat cheese. It was one of the best things I’ve eaten in years-sincerely.
My husband had a Tuscan pasta and sausage dish that he finished his food with a smile and then ordered a fabulous dessert of almond cake with pears and apples with cream.
Been there a long time. And consistently good French cuisine an excellent wine list
Our 52nd anniversary was celebrated in the cozy surroundings of The Earle. The food was superb as were the mixed drinks. My husband’s Delmonico steak and my whitefish were delectable.
The service could have been quicker but, over all a very nice experience.
An excellent meal with very good service. We both had the salmon in phyllo dough which never fails to be great. We used a Local Flavor voucher which made the meal an excellent bargain. We also needed some management assistance on another matter and the manager was very helpful.
I had written a special request on my reservation, for a cozy booth where we could see and listen to the jazz trio. They saved us the perfect booth in the restaurant. The night was perfect. We celebrated my wife's birthday. It was cozy and romantic, and dimly lit and quiet enough to chat yet still hear the live jazz. My wife's favorite is the Beef Tenderloin with Roquefort sauce. It is amazing! The wine list is extensive and very good. This is our favorite restaurant for a cozy "date night" or a special occasion like birthdays or anniversaries. The Earle is an Ann Arbor institution and I hope it never closes or changes too much. We love it so much.
Lived in the area for a long time and this was our first experience. It was wonderful and we will be back.
Good place with excellent service. We followed some recommendations from the waiter and our choices were great.
We frequently enjoy dining at The Earle. It's the best downtown Ann Arbor Restaurant... consistently excellent cuisine, service and ambiance. We have never had a less than great experience there.
Have been going to the Earle for 41 years and have never been disappointed. One of the best Happy Hours in the city of Ann Arbor, in the bar. Mussels for 3.50 from 5:30 until 6:30. 20% off food and drinks in the bar only, Mon-Fri. The duck breast is the best I have ever eaten anywhere in the United States! The desserts are always creative and really good. Enjoy music during the week, trios, and solo guitar and piano. We celebrate anniversaries, restaurant week, Happy Hour almost every Friday. There are lots of choices on the menu. Their dinner salad is a steal. Probably, my most favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor.
Dim lighting in a romantic setting with live music.
It was a good experience! The food was really good. Loved the live jazz music. The atmosphere was nice too. Our table felt like a regular ol' diner table, but that obviously didn't ruin our evening.
Restaurants come and go in Ann Arbor, but The Earle remains a stalwart, reliable, dependable and enjoyable dining experience. Service is personable and attentive. The wine list is incredibly extensive yet will not break your bank balance. There are good deals to be found on the list! And the food - delicious Provencal comfort food with a gourmet flair. Around the holidays, for celebratory meals - make The Earle a destination. The place looks wonderful with lights and greenery. If you love jazz standards, you'll love the The Earle.
Great service! Attentive but not intrusive. Try the frozen hazelnut souffle! The only thing that kept me from a 5 star rating on the food was too much salt on both of our entrees. Everything else made up for it though. Will be back for sure!
This place is an Ann Arbor staple, and with good reason. It's exactly what you want in a classic French-style subterranean restaurant, with terrific atmosphere, a small menu, and a large wine list. A perfect spot for a quiet conversation at a private booth or table. Definitely recommended.
