Great meal. Excellent service. Can’t wait to go back. Had leftovers last night and were almost as good as being there.
Food was okay. Waiter couldn’t care less that we were there.
Everything went well. The only complaint we had was that we were placed in a corner against a wall. Couldn’t really hear the music being played and we were right in line with where the servers were traveling in and out of the kitchen.
Great food, service and atmosphere
We had a really wonderful dinner - great food and drinks in a wonderful atmosphere.
- I gave it 4 stars because it missed a particular point I was looking for: live music
- Reviews showed that they hosted live music, alas, no show
- Wine selection was great
- Food overpriced for what it is, but its downtown Ann Arbor & 'looks upscale', so nothing you wouldn't expect
- Romantic setting, quiet in most parts
- People were very pleasant!
- Very clean
Took my bff out for her birthday. The Earle is her favorite place however not my first choice. I was a little disappointed with the veal scallopin. The veal wasn’t thin like I’ve had at other restaurants. The sauce was and sides were fantastic. Great place if you like food with sauces
Great place. Loved the jazz band while we ate. Food was fantastic. Great French flavors
This place was amazing. Took my girlfriend and her parents there and everything turned out amazing. 5 stars all the way around.
It was very relaxing, nice background music, food was very good, service was great, beautiful old building, convenient parking
Friday it just wasn’t up to it’s normally great service. Also way too much garlic.
we made a reservation and when we arrived (on time) they seated us at a table in the bar while there were many set tables available in the dining room. the menu sounds better than it tastes. I had the Coquille St Jacques. It looked great. the scallops were cooked perfectly. it was sauced in a heavy cream sauce that was too cloying. for the amount of sauce there wasn't enough rice. the server was very attentive.
A long time favorite for delicious food, wonderful atmosphere, and welcoming staff. I recommend the dining room or bar for a top notch but not pretentious experience.
One of the best meals I’ve had in years. I highly recommend that you check it out
Terrible Service! Waiter was non existent all night. Had to ask for order to be taken for dinner. Had to ask where our dinner was? Took over 2 hours from start to receive meal. Would not recommend to anyone. I am sure it was the server's issues. Other tables he waited on experienced the same. Foor was over cooked or reheated.
The wine selection is excellent. The duck breasts are the best I have ever eaten. Desserts are always excellent. Disappointed that they didn’t have chocolate mousse on Valentine’s Day. Always a great restaurant to frequent any time.
This place is excellent! Everything was perfect from beginning to end. The food, music, service, ambiance & atmosphere was great! The staff was polite, courtesy & knowledgeable of their establishment. The wine recommendation was excellent. I think the prices are reasonable for such an upscale establishment. I would recommend the Earle especially for special occasions.
This is a true "old school" place--with underground brick construction and low ceilings, it feels like a former speakeasy. There is often live music, and on Valentine's Day there was an excellent jazz guitarist playing. They have a great wine list, and service is very pleasant.
The food is also old school, consisting of midwestern versions of French-ish and Italian-ish dishes. Tournedos of beef, duck, lamb, steak, pasta, lots of traditional favorites. We started with a meat antipasto plate and the roasted garlic plate. The meat plate was oddly lacking in meat: it came with two slices of salami, two slices of soppressata, along with a huge pile of olives and a huge pile of broiled mushrooms. The roasted garlic plate was delicious, though, featuring an enormous garlic clove with plenty of tasty crostini.
My partner ordered the beef tenderloin with gorgonzola, medium rare, and I ordered the sauteed duck breasts. Both came smothered in tasty, but very heavy, sauces. Accompaniments were sliced sauteed brussel sprouts, which were a bit plain but not overcooked, and a somewhat watery confection of mashed potatoes and turnips. Her medium rare steak came well done instead, so had to be sent back. The server was very good about sending it back, but of course that always puts off the timing of the meal. The chocolate mousse was excellent.
Overall, it's a pleasant experience, but the heavy old-school sauces leave one feeling bloated for hours afterwards. If you aren't up for that, consider opting for a seat at the beautiful bar for a cocktail and some live music.
We come to the Earl every year for our anniversary. My favorite restaurant. Just found out my husband is not as enthralled with it as I am unfortunately. I highly recommend the scallops
Salad with walnuts and gorgonzola and the Salmon in puff pastry we’re both excellent.Love the live music, too.
All in all fairly disappointed. Service was only ok. Salads were good. Entrees were barely average. I had the linguini with sausage, cappicola and hot peppers. Plate was too small so if you tried to wind the pasta on your fork everything spilled on the table. Sausage was flavorless. My wife ordered the tenderloin and roquefort. Everything was drenched in the cheese sauce. The vegetables were unrecognizable. Tenderloin was tough. They got our drink orders wrong but they did correct it.
Luckily saved Valentine's night with a great dessert around the corner.
Most likely we won't go back.
Excellent service and excellent food! We really enjoyed the soft live guitar music in the background. Would definitely recommend!
We went to The Earle for my husband's birthday. The whole experience was wonderful. The service, food, etc. was fantastic. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
First time either of us were here. Great recommendations from our waiter when undecided between entrees. Greatly appreciated his input and honesty. Both of our meals were excellent. Many thanks to the hostess who was reassuring and delayed our reservation when I called because we were being delayed with traffic and bad weather.
Warm welcoming place on a snowy night. Excellent food as usual. Duck breast is my go-to entree. Lamb chops and veal for the rest of the group. Kudos all around. Our guests were new to The Earle and were blown away by the size and the prices of the wine list.
Went for an early valentines dinner, we had a really good time, the food was delicious.
The servers were outstanding; truly the best I’ve ever experienced. The food was very good, but not as exceptional as the servers. I do think the price could have been a bit lower.
The food was delicious. Our waitress was attentive without being intrusive. I liked that she wasn’t afraid to make a suggestion when asked about specifics. The only drawback was the temperature inside. It was chilly.
We went to The Earle for our anniversary and enjoyed everything about the restaurant. The staff members were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was delicious; we both decided on pasta dishes. I would strongly suggest finishing your meal off with their Crème Brûlée. I strongly recommend The Earle for anyone looking for a pleasant evening enjoying wonderful food and wine.
Birthday dinner for my dad the salmon in the Puff pastry was outstanding as were the scallops the wine a $73 bottle of ridge Zinfandel was awesome the bread as usual with terrific and I tried the bread salad
It was tasty as well
Just a bad night for the Earle. Paul the waiter was not very friendly or personable. The toranadoes were over peppered
We were truly disappointed to learn that we could not use Happy Hour discounts because we have secured a reservation through Open Table. When we brought this concern to the managers attention he simply responded the reason was due to the reservation - nothing more. We were frustrated and not happy.
Extensive wine selection and a great happy hour.
Food and service were excellent. This is our "go to" restaurant for a fine meal.
Dwayne was an excellent server, getting all the special changes to our orders perfectly. The food was delicious. The live music was delightful and it was quiet enough to allow for normal voice volumes for conversation
My wife and I went to The Earle for a date night. Service, ambiance, and the jazz trio was excellent. The food was delicious, just not spectacular in my opinion. Overall wonderful experience however.
Amazing meal! The salmon was terrific, and the red velvet cake was the best I have ever had. I can't wait to go back just for that.
Great atmosphere, great food!
Wait staff was very friendly and accommodating!
Excellent experience. Outstanding food and service. A special place. Will be back.
