Over the last year, there is no doubt that the pandemic has impacted us all. It was a difficult year for small businesses, especially everyone who worked in the service and dining industry. Rather than throwing in the towel; we leaned on the grit and support of the Chicago people to adapt to our new normal and deliver a completely reimagined dining experience called The Duplex. What started as two “ghost” kitchens in downtown Chicago has transformed into a modern community dining space that collaborates with the city’s best up-and-coming chefs.
The Duplex partners with new chefs every 6 months. These rotating menu concepts will reflect the diverse flavors of our unique neighborhoods and give new culinary talents a chance to shine in our kitchen. The Duplex serves as an inclusive space to gather, indulge, dance, network and grow together. Through the vision of owner, Le’Qoinne Rice, we strive to bring you an innovative dining experience no matter where you come from.

We went here for my sister’s birthday. The staff was very accommodating and the place looked nice. The food took a very long time to come out. We were told that we had to wait for our entire party to be present before we could order, which makes sense. But, when we finally got our food it took over 30 minutes before all the food was on the table. My husband’s pancakes were cold before his steak and eggs came out. My sister waited over 10 minutes for a cup off mayo. My wings came out with the wrong sauce. We waited another 20 minutes for that to be corrected but the wings were unseasoned and tasteless aside from the sauce. We spent about $50 per person for a totally unsatisfying meal. The best part was the burger but the patties were half the size of the buns.

The space is too small for such loud live DJ music. We couldn’t even hear each other and were actually screaming across the table. We waited an hour for our food which came out on hot plates but everything was cold. The eggs, I could be wrong, but I swear are powdered and the only thing that was good was the fruit and drinks. Overpriced for the quality and super slow service. We did appreciate our server informing us about the 20% gratuity on every bill.

The shrimp and grits was a no. The grits had lumps and the shrimp tasted like they were pre-cooked reheated shrimp. The French toast was a no as well. Some white sauce that was cold came with it.

Let me say the customer service was TOP TIER!!! The staff there are the best of the best! It made me not feel as bad about the 22 percent gratuity because they definitely deserve it for the impeccable service! Now on to the food… I had a lobster roll and it was the tiniest one I’ve ever received from a restaurant, it looked to be on a hot dog bun just to give an idea of how small it was it definitely was not worth the price. My friend had the breakfast plate I forgot the name of it but they charged for cheese and it was a few pieces of shredded cheese that had barely melted on top. Basically the food was subpar. If I ever go back it will be for drinks and the service not the food. Overall we had a good time

Over priced for no big selections of food and drinks were okay. They charge allot and they aren’t all that good they should lower this gratuity and drink prices they would be better… might go back won’t be any time soon…

The prices on their website are not the prices they actually charge you, the manager has poor customer service skills, the shrimp and grits were horrific so we sent them back. Chicken and waffles were dry, and flavorless. The best thing about this place was the drinks and the dj, but the music is extremely loud. They charge 22% gratuity automatically with 2% for an “employee aid fund”. First time visiting and we won’t be returning.

Went to Duplex for brunch. Been here on Saturday and Sunday and the place has a nice vibe. There is a dj, bottomless Mimosas, 90 minute reservation to finish food and have fun. Food well seasoned. Recommendations: Steak and Eggs, Shrimp and Grits.

My experience at this establishment was amazing. The new menu items are superb and the ambiance was mellow with a side of fun. They had a live DJ that played some great tunes. They had two menus to choose from. Mexican or Italian. I chose from the Italian side and was pleasantly surprised. 10/10 would recommend.

Restaurant wasn’t busy but we had a hard time getting our server. We actually had 2 servers for our table and each one didn’t know what the other was doing so there was alot repeating and duplicate questions and confusion. At the end, they didn’t tell us tip was included or show the receipt- just handed us the payment device. I only knew to ask if tip was included based on other comments I read online in advance. Otherwise I would have overtipped by an additional 20%! On top of the mandatory 22% already applied to the bill. It’s unethical not to tell patrons that tip is included. It felt like they were just hoping no one notices and they get double tip. Only after I inquired did the server acknowledge the tip on the bill. I don’t like the deceptive practice and not showing the total bill so we can verify accuracy! Also, this practice seems to have driven down the value of service since the staff is guaranteed a hefty tip regardless of their level of service.

Steak and eggs highly not recommended. Steak is a flank. I ordered medium however it came to the table as beef jerky ( best description) . Music was amazing, however, the server hates her job and it shows. If you’re going for music, that’s probably the only thing that you would enjoy. Would not recommend for a celebration such as a birthday.

We paid $5 per person to reserve a table (which didn’t go to the bill) so the ones that couldn’t make it we lost out on money. My party received their food at the same time but I waited 30 mins to get mines after being told it’s on the way, then its ready and he’s about to grab it, to coming back for a third time without my food and asking what was it that I ordered again… then it came out incorrect stilll. But hey over all the food was good and the prices were ok.

Everything was great until the DJ came. The music was great but too loud for the size of the space. I would go back because the food and service was phenomenal, just closer to when they open.

Great vibe and the meal was good. However, it took too much time for all of us to be served. In fact, by the time three of us got our meal, the other person in our party was totally finished. Great drinks and value with the bottomless mimosas with 3 different juices. I will definitely return. The music was awesome!

The food looked good online but was very disappointing in person. Everyone liked the mac and cheese but the brisket was tough. Weird to have potatoes on a gyro. Emphasis on the bar drinks not the food. If we knew that it was a bar first we wouldn't have went. It was my son's birthday and he picked. Disappointed

The service was extremely extremely slow, and when we got the food the quality was average. Most options on the menu were labeled “out of stock” at 1:00 p.m brunch menu. The bill include a gratuity of 20% and 2% employees benefit fund which is kind of ridiculous to turn over to customers in addition to the automatic gratuity. The lights kept going out and the music was great but too loud to have conversation. I would maybe go back for drinks if I was in the neighborhood but that’s it.
