The Dumbwaiter Fairhope
Food wasn't bad, price seemed a little high. Service wasn't great at all, really slow. Looked like only the bartender and one server was taking care of the restaurant. The 2 things my wife and I wanted to order for dinner, they were out of and was not told until we tried and order them. Would have been nice ahead of time. The menu isn't that big, so to be out of 2 dinner entree's to me was crazy since it wasn't that busy.
I may go back and try it one more time, but will not go out of my way too.
Very enjoyable. excellent food. our server, Nathan, was the best and helped with several recommendations. we tried the new south brussel sprouts appetizer and loved it. i highly recommend it. entree's were equally delicious. i had the fried pork chop and my wife had a blackened fish. we will definitely return. we really liked the atmosphere. recommend reservations as it's a fairly small place.
The food was horrible!! The cook spilled oil all over our food, and then had to remake it. By this time we had been their for an hour, and overcooked everything. The manager ended up taking care of our meal.
I would say try it. The food was good but my steak was over cooked, my dads and friends steak was not hot. But the potatoes were great. The waitress was very friendly. The noise level was good. We weren’t asked about dessert which was odd. But we were full so it was fine.
Our food was delicious, and the service was outstanding. We enjoyed every moment of our dinner!
The food at the Dumbwaiter was excellent and the service was excellent. I thought the prices were a little high. However I was a little disturbed as being a former supervisor in food service to see two young men in the food prep area using their cell phones.No phones should be used in the kitchen and food prep areas. That is a big no no in food service as cell phones are loaded with germs and bacteria. I saw them using them every time when I was going in and out of the restroom. I kinda of lost my appetite. I do not know if there was a supervisor or manager on duty but if it would have been me they would have not had them out.

When we arrived we were greeted by the hostess in a friendly manner. I liked where my table was located. Our waitress was Gabby. She was slow bringing our drinks. She explained the specials with a hint of condescending tone. The cornbread, pork skins and butter were delicious to start our dining experience. The food was good. I ordered the scallops. The sauce was very flavorful. My son ordered the Cobia. It was prepared just right. It was delectable. My husband ordered the ribeye. It was ok. The only reason we came to the Dumbwaiter was I had a $100 gift card. We couldn’t eat all our food and asked for a to go box. In such a fancy restaurant I figured the waitress would prepare the food to go. Wrong we had to do it. I was disappointed. Fairhope Yacht Club always prepares the to go boxes and the food isn’t as expensive as the Dumbwaiter. I won’t come back.
Yummy- we’re only sorry that we did not have enough room to eat all the delicious plates to empty. (The doggie bags were donated to the bartender’s sweet pups since we could not take)!
The service was excellent and they had some re as lly unique dishes that were outstanding.
The stuffed chicken was superb!
Decor is sparse. Tin chairs aren’t particularly comfortable.
This Dumbwaiter is not so busy as the Mobile one. It’s actually nice and romantic somewhat! Always good? I recommend!
The food was quite salty. Se didn’t finish any single dish. Service was friendly but she didn’t let us know there would be a split plate charge. No big deal, but let people know.
Entrees and desert, cheesecake were excellent! Service was excellent!
The food was excellent. My wife had a chicken dish and my friend and I had the fried pork chops. Everyone was pleased. My biggest concern is the drab, unimaginative interior and exterior. With the blackened windows, you can never see any activity from the street so it always looks closed or like there is nothing going on inside. Not much to entice you to enter. Inside is pretty bland and the metal chairs are very uncomfortable. This is my second time to visit and both times the food was very good. As it has been a while since my last visit, I had thought that they may have "warmed-up" the inside a little more. While they have got the food part of the business down, with so much good food available in Fairhope, they need to beef up their value-added part of the operation.
Wasn't overall impressed with the waitress. She did not even ask for a drink order. One of the people in our party ordered Shrimp and Grits and the shrimp had tails. She basically told him to deal with it himself.
The app was gross, the fries soggy, the vegetables terrible and the $72 bottle of sparkling wine was not ready when we ordered it and was not hot when they finally opened it. There were five total tables on a Friday night. If this place doesn’t make some serious changes they might as well close now. It’s inevitable. The worst $200 I’ve ever spent.
Had the special Black Drum & wagyu flat iron steak. Both were excellent.
They ran out of their special entree and dessert before 7:30. My steak was very over cooked. For $46, I expect a steak that’s cooked exactly how I order it. However, the drinks and dessert were great and our server was very nice.
Birthday. A little noisy. Ran out of the special ribeye that our guest wanted.
The dumb waiter is always amazing! Very great atmosphere, service, and food. Not very busy on a Saturday night but it was great! Thanks DW!
This was a wonderful experience. Our waitress made the evening. Her recommendations were awesome!!! She is fantastic!

After many recommendations from friends, we decided to try this place. Nice setting and I liked the ambiance. My husband had the burger, which apparently was the best burger he's ever had. But the rest of us were disappointed with the food temperature. Surprisingly, even though the food had good flavor, it was hard to tell because the temperature was lukewarm/almost cold. And it's not that they were super busy. We were the only table occupied for almost the entire time we were there. With the price point being what it is, the food temperature should have been dead on. Doubt we will return for another cold and costly meal.
The Brussels sprouts appetizer was excellent, as were the half baked oysters! All the food was excellent, and my bone in ribeye was delicious.
Food is outstanding! Our waitress was helpful and quick to answer any questions. Service was superb.
It was daughter’s birthday, but the restaurant did not offered anything special to her.

We've eaten several times at the Dumbwaiter in Mobile and we live in Fairhope, so we were excited at the prospect of a new, good place to dine - but this isn't YET it.
New lay-out has the bar taking up a disproportionate portion of the "front" dining room and if, as we did this evening, want to avoid the noise of a large party splayed across the front windows, one is left with the choice of a side room that is totally nondescript - no ambience what-so-ever.
The food is amaZing! Party of six and no one was disappointed. Burger was “the best I have ever had”, the pot roast was on the perfect medley of potato and veggies, seafood pasta was rich and fresh, scallops were fab, and pecan crusted chicken was perfect! Ask for extra pork rinds, they are the very best we have ever had-wish they would sell those to take home! It was very loud-no textiles to absorb the noise. The service was spot-on. Need a menu checklist so We can be sure come back and try every item
The restaraunt is beautiful and everyone was super friendly and welcoming. We had the fried pimento cheese appetizer which was outstanding in flavor but they could have been cooked just about a minute longer as the cheese was not totally melted in the center of a couple of the cheese balls. The combination of the bacon,cheese and onions makes the perfect bite and the presentation was beautiful. My date had the drum special and he loved it, especially the super cheesy grits. I had the rack of lamb and it was cooked perfectly. My potatoes were cold but that was quickly remedied. I can't remember the servers name but he did a wonderful job and the chef and manager were both super friendly and accommodating. Drinks were slow coming from the bar and there were only a couple of other tables so don't know what the delay was about but overall it was a great experience and I can't wait to return and try the scallops. *** There is no music. Y'all really need some music playing to set the mood.
The last two times we’ve been here, the food isn’t very hot, which is weird because there’s also hardly anybody else in there. Waitress was fine, but not overly friendly or trained.
We were seated promptly and greeted by Heather who gave us time to peruse the menu. The half baked oysters super delicious. The pot roast stringy and not quite worth the price. The flat iron was very preppery And not very tender. Unfortunately we have had better meals at half the price at another downtown resteraunt. Not sure we will go again except for the oysters!

My only complaint is the choice of metal chair for seating in all of the Dumbwaiter restaurants that I have visited. They don't fit the human form and are consequently very uncomfortable. The Dumbwaiter Fairhope has a welcoming friendly staff and some great creative delicious food options. Portions are generous and presented beautifully. The bar area was lively with standing room only, so I assume there is a local following.
