   Despite the reviews, I booked a meal for my partners birthday, as we live on Poundbury and I really like the pub atmosphere. It's the first time we had eaten here. The restaurant was cosy, not cramped and atmospheric. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food was sublime. We had three courses, each course came within a good time of ordering and followed the other courses in good time, all be it that the restaurant was full. We enjoyed the evening immensely and will definitely be returning with friends. Thank you for a great evening

   After 15 mins sitting at the table I had to go over to two waiters who were happily chatting in the corner to ask if they would take our drinks order. Not good enough

   Me and my partner came here for his birthday. We were greeted by very friendly staff and sat at our table. Our order was taken promptly. However when the starters arrived it started to go downhill. The bruschetta was not nice at all, and I barely ate any of it. I didn't complain, because the staff were nice and I decided to let it go. After the starters were cleared, me and my partner were waiting about 40 mins for our main course. We were just getting fed up when the staff arrived with our food. They apologised for the really long wait, confirming they were aware they had taken too long. I felt a little annoyed they didn't have a word with us sooner, as a quick apology and explanation was all that was needed. The steak I had ordered was terrible! I have never had worse. I asked for it well done, but it was cooked until it was just a blackened burnt stump. At this point I was starving and decided to eat it any way. However after getting half way through, I just couldn't stomach anymore and left the rest. My partner didn't enjoy his food either. At this point I wanted to complain. I would of refused a refund, because I did eat half, but I just wanted to provide feedback. However I felt like the staff were avoiding us, as they didn't come over to check on us and never asked about our food when clearing our half full plates or when we were settling the bill. The restaurant decor was lovely, which is the only reason I gave this 2 stars, but I was embarrassed I took my partner here and won't be back. Shame as we would of likely become regulars.

   Did not like being seated ride outside the toilet door as this was supposed to be a treat for my wife's birthday but they did move us one table alone it really is a coincidence but we have been sat there a few times times before very disappointing but a very lovely Christmas tree down stairs

   We have visited once before and used the bar, liked the feel of the place and chose to use it as a midway location [Devon / Hampshire] to meet family for a pre christmas get together. A major reason was the vegetarian choice [3 of 6 being veggie and all eat vegetarian food regularly]. On the day 4 veggie meals were returned as veg was well overcooked and meals not warm - a big disapointment! Whilst staff then tried to recover the situation the problem obviously lay in the kitchen [we did not pay for the meals]

   Having booked a table, we arrived to find no one to greet us. By chance, a passing waitress noticed us at the door and showed us to our table. The main course was served in a reasonable time, but the order for dessert became lost it in the IT system apparently. No one seemed to notice or care that we were waiting 35 minutes until I brought it to the attention of the management who seemed to regard the matter as amusing, and were surprised that I made a fuss.

   This place is great - we came away for the night in the hotel and booked a table in the restaurant prior to arriving. The restaurant is upstairs away from the main bar which gives it a quieter ambiance for more intimate dining. Food was excellent - wild mushrooms on toast to start were 'heavenly'. Nice to see British rose veal on the menu and it didn't disappoint. Didn't have room for the desserts but they sounded delicious. Staff attentive but not 'in your face' and wine list had something for every taste and budget.
