Great food, fine ales, plenty of gin and a friendly atmosphere – what more could you want from a restaurant and country pub! 2024 has seen an extensive £150,000 refurbishment creating a stylish and contemporary restaurant & country pub..

Set in the tiny, picturesque village of Skipwith only ten miles south of York, it is the main destination inn in the area. The delicious created dishes on our menu are locally sourced and reflect the changing seasons, mirroring the wonderful walks to be found through Skipwith Common, right on its doorstep.

Excellent food and service as always. Took my brother for Sunday lunch for his birthday. I love the fact that there is a choice other than Sunday lunch. Everyone enjoyed their food.

Attentive staff nice touch including birthday card and sample sweets saying happy birthday Sunday roast only warm and beef too tough for me other diners happy though with their meals

Our visit was disappointing. The place is cold, I was sat with my partners coat on due to this. There were flies. The food was ok… I could see they were trying. However as someone who likes good food, I won’t be going back. The steak was ordered medium rare… it was cooked like leather. The broccoli was cold and over cooked. Price would be ok if food was better. Staff to be fair were lovely, although the manager got the soup of the day wrong, so we had to wait for them to rectify this (and you could then tell it was just re heated). If you’re foodies I wouldn’t bother.

Overall very good. However at the price charged, the sirloin steak was disappointing.

As always we had an excellent experience. Staff were attentive, without being pushy. Lots to choose from on the menu.

I was impressed by the menu choices The food was delicious and the amount was almost too much. I would like to commend the young people who made up the waiting staff. They were polite, attentive and cheerful.

Family of four dining on Easter Sunday. Accommodated us 15 mins early for our evening booking. Lovely venue, comfortable chairs, ample table space, and a nice range of beers and wines. We had two Sunday lunches and items from the kids' menu for our fussy pair. The beef and lamb were exquisite, as were the vegetables and the gravy. The chocolate brownie and ice cream for dessert are probably the best I've ever tasted. The service was excellent and the young people waiting at the tables were polite, efficient, and effective. Really very, very good indeed.
