The Drovers Arms Restaurant & Country Pub
The Drovers Arms, set in the tiny, picturesque village of Skipwith only ten miles south of York, is one of the area’s main destination inns.
The delicious home-made food is locally sourced and reflects the changing seasons, mirroring the wonderful walks to be found through Skipwith Common, right on its doorstep.
Business Owner Graham Usher who has over 20 years’ experience in some of Yorkshire’s best hotels, are justifiably proud of The Drovers Arms which he took over in November 2013.
The Drovers Arms was named one of Yorkshire’s top 30 pubs 2014 to 2019 by Welcome to Yorkshire and is a Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence winner 2014 for 4 years running.
“We are determined to offer our customers authentic ale served by friendly bar staff, coupled with amazing food.
A really nice pub that serves very good food. Nice location nice environment and very friendly staff.
Lovley food and pub great service and very pleasnt
Still the best dining experience for miles around.
Lovely atmosphere, lovely food in cosy surroundings and very friendly and conscientious staff offering a good service.
Fabulous little real ale country pub. Excellent food with a great menu selection. Very Good service from friendly staff. Wish it was on my doorstep
Sunday lunch. Very nice, a little skimpy on the veg, I guess we could have asked for more, as we did with the gravy which was immediately brought to our table. Would visit again for Sunday lunch.
A warm welcome, relaxed atmosphere and good food, well worth a visit, and a revisit!
This was our second visit here. The first time was on a quiet Saturday where we were delighted to discover this gem of a pub, we had an outstanding lunch, it's really special pub grub, great service and very reasonably priced. We decided to return for Sunday lunch a few weeks later and sadly didn't have quite the same experience. The place was packed and the very young team rushed off their feet and visibly stressed. As a vegetarian I often miss out on a traditional Sunday lunch with all the trimmings so was very excited to see nut loaf offered as an option, but when my food arrived it was just the trimmings and no nut loaf, when I pointed this out I was simply told they had run out and was offered some more vegetables, I was not offered an alternative meal or my money back! We still love the place, and will be back, but I think they could do with more experienced staff on busy days.
Sunday Lunch. A little disappointed that nut roast had run out by 1.00pm but other than that a really good meal. Service was a bit slow but the pub was very busy so understandable.
Second visit and I can not fault the quality and portion sizes of the food.
Service on both occasions hasn’t been great - waiting over 15mins from being seated to order drinks, then sat with empty glasses trying to catch someone’s attention, one of the starters was missing but turned out the kitchen staff had simply put it on the same plate as one of the other starters and was just about to be eaten by the wrong person, butter for the bread roll was stone cold and unspreadable.
However, the servers were all lovely, friendly, chatty and apologised; just a bit more training required I think.
Definitely returning as the food is amazing.
Warm welcome. Food good although vhips could have crisper. Very pleasanr & will go again.
GreAt Sunday lunch. Large portions and excellent value.
£30 steak night (Wednesday). Tasty steak with a bottle of house wine. Splendid
Nice food although the beef was a bit grisly, the park seemed much better, my only complaint was that a table for 2 was very small and the chai’s were small and uncomfortable
We frequented the Drovers arms recently with our 3 year old grand daughter as we we'r staying just a mile up the road in our motor home. My partner and i both had the pork loin chop with all the trimmings whilst our 3 year old decided on fish and chips. The food was outstanding and our grand daughter tucked into her meal which she really enjoyed. We would highly recommend the Drovers arms and will be visiting again in the future. Thanks for an lovely meal in a lovely pub.

Very busy Sunday lunch service staff seemed to be under pressure all of the time. The food was served then we had a long wait for the veg dishes therefore meat was cold. Roast potatoes were under cooked. The caramel sundae had gone off the menu so they offered me a strawberry sundae. Turned up as 2 scoops of icecream, afew chopped strawberries and juice with a biscuit. The other puddings were cold and dry . The overall visit was disappointing. On the positive the pub is lovely. I wonder if the evening would be better but not going to bother. Sad as wanted to visit for some time. Was prepared to pay premium price for sunday dinner for the family but everyone in the party was underwhelmed by the experience.
A lovely Sunday roast. Table was booked at 3 so the lunch time rush was dying down despite this the service was very slow - we had to ask for menus, ask to order, chase a drinks order, ask to order desserts even though there were plenty of waiting staff around. The food was excellent as usual and the set menu is fantastic value for money.
Lovely food, wide selection of beers and spirits. Loved the goats cheese pate.
As usual pleasant and good service from staff. Also food ready in super quick time and delicious. Sticky toffee pudding back on menu fabulous
Excellent Food and Service especially the young female server she was very good and patient with my elderly father who has dementia
We will be back soon
I have been to the Drover's arms previously and really enjoyed the food. However, my most recent visit was a little disappointing. The starter and dessert were very good but my beef Sunday Dinner was poor. The meat needed to be sent back as it was chewy to the point my jaw hurt and the red cabbage had an awful burnt smell and taste.
I must say the service was second to none and as soon as I mentioned I was not happy with the meat, a new plated dinner and side of veg was brought to me in a few minutes.
We had a very tasty well presented meal, starters through to puddings really good and reasonably priced. There was a good range of drinks and nice wines. The espresso martinis were to die for. We will definitely be visiting again and probably again.
We took some friends for breakfast on a weekend and it was superb. Best cooked breakfast we have had. Thoroughly recommended! It's best to book so they know you are coming.
The food was beautiful, very nicely presented and well priced. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Would definitely go back.
The Drovers is a lovely place if you're going for a drink or a sit down meal. The staff are always on the ball and we were shown to our table quickly.
Food was outstanding but the service was very slow and not friendly, which is a shame.
Food lovely as usual, sticky toffee pudding to die for
Positives: Our table was ready, service was prompt, atmosphere was good
Negatives: Too many flies and wasps with no attempt to control pests, vegetarian options on menu very poor, food presentation could be improved
The Drovers was excellent as always.
First call food ... Unfortunately the game pie special had all gone.
Nice reasonably priced bottle of red with dinner went down a treat.
We didn't book until the evening before so were quite surprised to get in at the time we wanted.
Good service. Good ambiance. Recommended.
An excellent meal for each of us, with very polite serving staff throughout, even though it was a very busy Saturday night. The menu had great choices and the food was of a superb standard. The only thing I could complain about was the noise level of the background music, which was way too loud. The staff did respond quickly though to our request to turn it down a little, so it was fine in the end. We will definitely book again when we next visit Skipwith.
Really friendly staff and lovely food......amazing portions...my father had the tomahawk pork, my sister and I had the seafood linguine and my husband had the burger.....we all commented on the quality of the food!
A great selection of gins too....shame this isn’t our local! We will definitely be returning the next time we’re in Yorkshire!
I enjoyed a perfect lunch here with friends prior to walking around Skipwith Common. The food was exceptional and we all plan to return with our families.
Fab food, friendly service haven’t been here for a while but will return soon
Apart from soggy chips, everything was excellent including the attentive service.
Outstanding out of the way place. Driving from Oxford to York with 10 family members ranging in age from 10-70 and made reservations on the fly. Great menu options and excellent preparation of fresh local foods. One of the best meals we had in England! Desserts were over the top and made the night end well.
Our family really enjoyed ourselves. The food was brilliant and the service was good. The pub was very comfortable and the children enjoyed playing in the garden. We would definitely recommend the Drovers Arms and hope to visit again.😁
A very pleasant country pub with good parking. An extensive and middle priced menu. Helpful staff. Tasty food and good service. We will definitely go back again soon.
Second visit. Feed was just as good as the first time. Great tasting food and good portions. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Will be visiting again soon.
A very nice cosy country pub restaurant, the food was very good, the staff helpful & the ambience in keeping with its character. The only minor complaint, after we had order & eaten starters the service, for whatever reason, faded. Asking to see the dessert menu became a challenge, so much so that we nearly decided to skip a dessert.
Grest location. Lovely food and plenty of it. Warm welcoming staff. Good choice of ales and Gin.
