The Dormouse in York is a country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

The Dormouse is built on the site of the old Clifton hospital, originally known as the North and East Riding Pauper Hospital when it opened in 1847. These days, we look after visitors and locals rather than patients and instead of a hospital, we offer friendly hospitality and delicious food and drink, creating the ideal setting in which to relax and unwind.

Perfectly placed for visitors to ancient York and world class attractions like the Jorvik Centre, our pub is popular with walkers, tourists and cyclists - there's even an orchard for those who like their fresh air.

There was nothing wrong with the place or food or staff, good as always. The problem was that the reservation I booked via this app was not on there system and we were very lucky that the staff kindly found us a table. Let down by opentable

Went for Sunday lunch...a vast improvement from when we went on Boxing day. Friendly welcome served in good time food lovely and service excellent. Would have scored 5 stars for food but could have been hotter...other than that a lovely lunch.

We sat outside on the raised decking area enjoying the sunshine whilst the kids enjoying playing in the orchard that we overlooked. The food and service was great as always. We love coming to the Dormouse as the staff are very friendly and attentive, and the food is consistently good.

Waitress really spoilt our night she was very abrupt when taking order as if she wanted to be anywhere else other than where she was and kept walking past our table staring at us which made us feel uncomfortable. We were staying at the hotel and had planned to stay all night but left straight after meal. Triple cooked chips tasted just like oven chips and were very dry

Have visited the dormouse on many occasions and the decor and atmosphere and easy parking make it attractive. However I have found that the service has got slower and quality of food deteriorated . 2 of the 3 meals we had were over cooked - the hunters chicken both the chicken and gammon ( which has replaced the bacon) were dry and tough

As we haven't been there for a long time and we booked for 4 people and I requested a round table and they did. The service was good, the foods wow very nice as three of them had Sunday lunch while I had salad with chicken due to Vegan and thank you to the Chef. The pudding with coffee which had a Apple Pie with custard and again very nice. We were there for 3.5 hours so it good. Thank you.

Nothing wrong with the booking service but when we arrived at the Dormouse we were told that we would could sit at our table but would have to wait one hour for food. Did not have time to sit around so we left. Very disappointed and I expected better from them. Will not be going back in the near future.
