Located on Hope Street, a much loved address in Liverpool’s Georgian Quarter between the two cathedrals, the doors to our Taproom have welcomed many a local and friend over the past 200 years.

Our Dining Room, a relaxed and open space is washed in natural light through the summer months and warmed by the fire on evenings with a chill. The menu brings together traditional pub grub, familiar British comfort food and quality cuts, cooked over open fire.

Highlights of our week include the Sunday Roast and midweek Pre-Theatre menus.

Booked to sit in Tap Room and were offered the restaurant upstairs which we accepted. We were a group of 8 and we received excellent service from pleasant attentive staff. The food was delicious, all of the group commented on the quality, taste and portion size as being excellent. Highly recommend

Overall we enjoyed it however, I have to say the service was rather slow - staff were lovely though. Little things like glasses not cleared away, asked for water 3 times before it came, attention to detail just not there. As I say overall it was a nice afternoon but just needs refining .

5 of us went Sunday lunch. 230pm Food over cooked cold. Yorkshire pudding black well done cold Beef very tough Paid extra carrots. And coliflowe cheese Which was dry No atmosphere

Terrine should always come with bread- Plates for the cote de beouf were cold! Main plate was Luke warm so steak was ultimately cold and went cold quick. Scallops didn’t appear to have been cooked in their shells rather transferred after being fried as the shells were freezing cold. This meant the scallops were just luke warm too. Weren’t offered table water. Waiter stayed with the card machine when bringing over the receipt. All in all it had the foundations to be really good but intact we left pretty dissapointed given the amount spent

A really fantastic meal.. best we've had in ages . Stagg were fantastic and deven made us custom made mocktails . Best value for superb food and lovely atmosphere. We ll be coming back.

The venue is lovely and the meal choice on the pre-theatre was great. Starter was amazing. One of the main courses was incorrectly cooked even though they checked prior and unfortunately both main meals and one of the desserts was far too salty for our liking (personal choice I suppose). They also made an error on the bill which had to be produced 3 times until it was correct. Disappointing really as we were really looking forward to it as we had seen plenty of good reviews prior to our visit.

Lovely pub inside. Nice drinks, service and atmosphere great. Food mediocre. No fresh veg with roast. Yorkshire puddings burnt. Potatoes hard. Pie came with one single carrot. Would suggest bone marrow butter and bread is served with a robust sourdough not a sweet bread. Gravy tasted very sweet- not gravy.

Quality of food was poor, ordered two Roast Beef dinners, 1st service cold, sent both meals back to kitchen, server was apologetic. When the dinners both arrived for the second time, the roast potatoes inside were just warm, felt like that had been heated up in the microwave. The Beef was fatty. The gravy and vegetables were just okay, overall I was unimpressed. I have recently eaten in the restaurant for lunch and the food was excellent. I was disappointed with our visit to the Tap room for a Sunday roast this Fathers Day!
