Wonderful spot for brunch — fun location with lots of people watching, excellent food, and — despite the labor shortage — attentive service from a hard-working staff.
Great food and service. We love the bar but also enjoy the patio.
The food was good (no issues) but not spectacular. The service was very slow. We waited quite a long time for food to come out. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here again.
They had outdoor seating available that was pet friendly. This was nice. The menu was ok with limited selections. Menu selections offered a variety but nothing spectacular. The food was average. The service was ok.
They are clearly understaffed- Hostess was also the waitress. Despite being informed of allergies upfront, she made very little attempt to accommodate, and then served a drink containing allergen.
The food was mediocre. The short ribs were undercooked (tough)and had been slathered with a sauce that tasted like a mix of cheap ketchup and too much Worcestershire sauce. The smashed potatoes were a hot mess- swimming in a butter sauce
and unappealing. The steak frites dish was a better choice with a good cut of beef, nicely sliced, and fries that were a
bit heavy on the garlic. Service okay. Seems to be a better breakfast spot, not returning for dinner.
Outstanding night to sit outside and enjoy the experience. Great service and for those who think this is important, dog friendly too!
OK food however not what anticipated. Would probably go again but very loud
You will NOT be disappointed with your dining experience at The District
Wonderful service from the host to the waiter. Delicious food and great atmosphere.
We waited outside for 30 minutes past our indoor reservation time, then were seated next to an open triple door anyway. Our food would have been delicious if it were hot, but it arrived barely warm. Probably will not return, although sadly since I live just two blocks away.
We stopped in for brunch during the downpour today…the food was great and they were able to accommodate us even though we had an outdoor reservation (which was not happening today). Our waitress was wonderful and the food was great. We’ll be back!
Great place for brunch and to bring the dog when sitting outside.
We were greeted right away and everyone was friendly and helpful.
We will be going back.
Service was awesome, food delicious. We sat outdoors.
Cool, hip, fun. A little too loud.
The food is usually good, but two of us had the saddest turkey sandwiches. No effort went in to it (old lettuce and one slice of tomato) and had no flavor. It's not hard to make a good one. STEP IT UP!
Cheers to David Takis and his wonderful staff! Jack and Shalimar welcomed and took good care of our party of five for brunch on the terrace. Looking forward to our next visit!
Just wanted a quick dinner. We got that. Uninspired food. Loud traffic passing by. Loud customers at nearby tables.
Wonderful service, cauliflower and fried rice particularly excellent
Was there for the birthday dinner. Everything was great expect the poutine was not good at all. Also we were charged $15 for a marg that was half the size of the original ones we ordered.
Aside from that great night good service.
Got the special pad thai w/scallops: The BEST SCALLOPS I've ever eaten! My husband got a burger--it was about an inch thick!--w/fries that were terrific!
Our waitress was efficient and attentive without being solicitous. The food was quickly prepared and we were about to be in/out in under an hour.
This is a little pricier that we're used to, but about par for downtown Portsmouth.
Hope to return!
We had a great meal at the district! Friendly and helpful staff and good food and drinks!
The server did not know much about the menu despite having worked there for four summers. He was kind though...... The food was colorless and bland. The drinks were watered down. The price point was that of an award winning restaurant, but the food left a lot to be desired. Very disappointed and will not go back.
Since it was a rainy day we ate indoors instead of outside on the patio. The atmosphere is casual and lively. All of the staff were very attentive and friendly. One member of our group was running late, but they never made us feel rushed. They had several brunch options available to choose from. Among the six of us we tried many of the dishes and they were all delicious. The home fries were crispy, hot and seasoned with just the right amount of spiciness. We will definitely go back!
Always a great meal here.
Nice place. Sat outdoors at a table. Food was good and the staff was friendly and efficient. Will dine there again
Amazing service and food, we took our 3 dogs there and had an wonderful experience.
Our waitress 'Shalimar' was wonderful. Food was great... love the place and we live in Portsmouth.
Was hoping for the weekend brunch menu but it wasn't available when we arrived. Despite that, the service was excellent as were the food options.
Our first time at the District. Good food and good service. Drinks were good, too. We’ll be back!
Do NOT go here if anyone in your party has a serious food allergy!! Someone in our group with celiac was served a dish noted as gluten free on the menu. When it arrived & the person in our group questioned if it actually was gluten free, the waitress insisted it was. Only to come back minutes later & say it wasn't after several bites had been taken. She was unapologetic simply saying 'my bad', didn't end up taking the item off the bill & cursed at us when we questioned why the item would be on the bill given the situation. Horrible, horrible service. The food wasn't awful, but not good enough to offset a downright rude waitress- who to add to the disaster was the closest thing to a manager on duty that night?! Leaving someone that irresponsible in charge of your business is careless.
Great meal. A little noisy. Would have liked things a bit quieter for conversation.
Terrific place for a weekend brunch. fun and lively atmosphere, excellent fresh food (but not a place for a quiet date)
Food was absolutely terrible, there were six of us dining so we had a pretty good assortment of the menu. They used frozen deep fried home fries as a side for steak frite, bottled Demi glacé and a piece of filet that was actually cooked well. The ramen used ginger flavored soba noodles and was way too heavy on hoisin sauce so it tasted like fish and ginger. Short rib was cooked well but the portion was very small, 1 rib and a part of a second and a small smear of very thin mashed potatoes.
Service wasn’t terrible, but our drinks and water went empty several times. Food took unusually long to prepare and the check was delivered and collected surprisingly quick.
Overall, I would not recommend and I will likely never return. Is a shame because pre-COVID this was one of our favorite restaurants in Portsmouth.
Great drinks, appetizers and entrees! Our server was great and she was very busy!! They sat us outside which was what we wanted but was unable to get when I made the reservation!
The staff and management went above and beyond in accommodating our group with a near closing seating time. We were not hurried at all. Food and service were exceptional!
Service was not good. Food was not good. Not going back.
Food and service were very good! They even gave us chopsticks for the Pad Thai, which was excellent. We dined outside and enjoyed the fun ambiance in the heart of Portsmouth. Our server was attentive but did not rush us. Our only complaint was that dogs are allowed, which is fine except that one group had a dog that barked repeatedly during our meal. We found that disruptive and not conducive to relaxing while we dined. However, we would highly recommend this restaurant for a causal night out.
Martinis were very weak! Food is great and eclectic!
Loved it here. Great service, excellent food. Nice patio area.
