The Distillery Ratings and Reviews
I was really disappointed with the birthday dinner I hosted for my friend at the Distillery. The service was slow and the food and drinks were awful. I booked for a “birthday” on OpenTable, but the hostess didn’t do anything special for my friend when we ordered her cake at the end of the meal. :(
To start, I ordered a $14 drink with vermouth, maple, candied bacon, and cherries, and it tasted like salt. I don’t know what happened with this drink that made it taste like alcoholic salt water, but I sent it back (and I have NEVER sent anything back before) and the waiter was kind enough to take it off the bill.
Everything we ordered for appetizers and dinner was clearly made from processed, packaged food. My friend’s steak was covered with packaged instant gravy, my salmon was served over a (very over cooked and dry) boxed rice mix, and my boyfriend’s ravioli was definitely reheated in the microwave. I wouldn’t complain if our entrees weren’t $19+. But you can find better food at a chain restaurant for less.
we were pleased with menu and quality of food. The staff was super friendly, however service was sub-par... it took us roughly 25 minutes for brunch orders to be taken, items were completely forgotton from orders (hello, coffee?) and no one came to tables to refresh drinks or check on status. If the food had not been as pleasant, review would have been much worse.
Not likely to return, sadly, as we were hoping to love this place as a new midtown brunch spot.
Outstanding Gin selection. Very attentive staff. Food was incredible. I had the chicken and waffles. One of the best ones I’ve ever had.
The bruschetta trio was very good. And you can’t skip the Philly cheesesteak spring rolls!!!
Took over one hour to have our brunch served. Seemed like all the tables were waiting for food. Opens at 11:30am Sunday and we arrived 11:45am for a noon reservation and back room was already full of patrons. When food arrived it was delicious! Waitress kept our coffee & water glasses full, however no bread basket was offered while we waited.
There were five of us having dinner here on a Friday night. I made reservations based on the reviews on Open Table. I was very disappointed in the food. My order included the tomato salad. Almost all of the tomatoes were not ripe enough to eat. When I let our waiter know, all he did was tell me he'd report it to the chef. No offer to take it off the check or replace it with something else. It then took an extremely long and unacceptable time to receive our entrees. My vegetation burger was cold and missing one of the toppings I had ordered. Four of us ordered french fries; all the orders arrived cold. The owner came over and apologized, sent over new fries, and offered us complimentary drinks or desserts. The new fries were very good, as was the berry cobbler. The owner was very professional and did his best to correct what was wrong. Despite his efforts, I still can't recommend this restaurant. There were just too many issues.
We had a great experience here pre-theatre. Service was efficient but not rushed. Excited to see delicious Beyond Meat burgers done creatively - such a fabulous vegetarian option! Management was very attentive. Cocktail was fabulous. We'll be back!
The service was attentive without being intrusive. The food and drinks were great. Everyone enjoyed their selection - including the one vegan member of our party. Granted, there was essentially only 1 item on the menu for a vegan, but that's better than most restaurants. I enjoyed the "Irish Breakfast" - a real treat which, to my delight, was served in a cast iron skillet. It had everything you could possibly want for breakfast: eggs, toast, home fries, baked beans, ham, sausage, etc. Really great. Others in the party enjoyed burgers, and omelettes. A great find. We will be back.
The service here was great and quick. The restaurant wasn't too crowded on the Wednesday night that we went. The portions were large and the food was good, but nothing innovative or mind blowing. I had the 'Something Spiced' drink which was fun and good, I would recommend it if you like orange juice.
I really liked everything I ordered but my friend felt her dish of Fish and Chips included too many fried things. She knew the fish and chips were fried but didn't need both French fries and fried zucchini as well. She said a side salad would have balanced it better.
Waiter was very friendly and was kind enough to take pictures for us. I would come again!
I made my first visit to the Distillery. It's the same owners/management/staff as Brickyard Gastropub and it's even better - certainly a big step upscale. The cocktail menu is outstanding; this has become one of the best gin bars in NYC. My wife had a few glasses of wine and said they were outstanding, a big improvement. I was happy to see they still have an excellent craft beer list. We split a watermelon salad, which was fresh and tasted great. I loved the Crab Cake Sandwich and my wife enjoyed the Salmon Skewers, which she said was the most novel presentation of Salmon she has seen. It was a great meal and experience and we will be coming back often.
Visited The Distillery to celebrate a co-worker's promotion. I used to come to this restaurant when it was Brickyard and I wanted to see what they had to offer as The Distillery. Their cocktail menu is amazing. I'm more of a bourbon on the rocks kind of girl but they had plenty of items that I wanted to try. I had the smoked old fashioned and the maple bacon Manhattan. I've never had anything like this before and I wish we could have stayed longer to try out the rest of the cocktails. Their separate Gin and Tonics menu also looked pretty cool so I'd come back to try that out. Food was great. Plenty of share-able appetizers and filling sandwiches. I'm a big fan of breakfast for dinner so the Chicken and Waffles sandwich hit the spot! Can't wait to come back and try out the rest of their food and drinks
Great addition to the neighborhood. Tasty food- chicky sliders and philly egg rolls are a must! The zucchini ribbon salad was also a delicious and creative dish. The cocktails were well made and inventive without being over the top. Good prices with a nice vibe complete the setting. Hope this place is here for the long haul!
Based on the reviews, we chose The Distillery for a pre-theater dinner. The menu was varied and food was very good. Service was excellent and the back room for dining allowed our group to have a conversation. I would absolutely recommend this place for a pre- theater restaurant.
Nothing fancy but good value for the area.
