I loved the Easter Brunch
They were super special w me since i was visiting from out of state.
From the concierge Adrianne to our waiter Zane everyone was amazing
Definitely California is way far above in customer service compare to Miami. And the Shangri-La is above expectations to the regular customer service in California which is already great.

Awful! So disappointed. We were out for a meal with friends and hadn't tried this place so we thought we would give it a try. Service non existent...three out of four entrees arrived and after about fifteen minutes my husband got up to find somebody to check on the situation. We were told the server was on a break! In the middle of the dinner hour? Finally arrived and it was not worth waiting for. No one asked us about drink refills or to pour water or replace silverware. Just a disaster! Manager finally came over (we were literally the only people in the restaurant at 9:00 on a Saturday) and he said he was very "embarrassed" and would certainly comp the late entree. Of course, we finally got the bill and paid and left. It would have been nice if someone would have asked about coffee or dessert but the place was totally deserted at that point...I wonder why? Wouldn't go back and would never recommend it to anyone. Shameful!
Everything was excellent. Since it was NYE, there was a set menu. Each option sounded great. Service was top-notch. Definitely pricey, but we expected it to be. A large families, kids, and friends party of 20 arrived halfway through our meal, so the noise level skyrocketed, but only slightly lowered our service. The champagne was flowing, it was a memorable NYE dinner.
We had to wait a half hour past our rservation for the table. There was only a pre-fix menu offered that offered 3 sad choices for apps, mains and desert. That was never memtioned on the restaurant website or on Open Table. When saw people next to us eating oysters and yellowtail tartare we asked why we were only offered a pre-fix menu. The disinterested waiter tossed off "you have to be a hotel guest to get the full menu on Christmas day". He then disappeared for another 10 minutes because the restaurant was clearly understaffed. When the food finally came it looked and tasted like cafeteria food. The Prime Rib was overcooked and bristly, paper thin and visually off putting. The sliced turkey in light gravy goop seemed to be out of a vacu sealed astronaut meal. They did have the 2012 Hartford Court Russian River Pinot Noir. I really needed that!
What a great throwback room! Great Art Deco beach/shipboard ambience, with terrific ocean views and beautiful period decor. Gorgeous bar along the back wall, cozy tables and beautiful big windows that open to the Pacific breezes on warm days (and balmy evenings). The staff are welcoming and extremely courteous, and the menu is very inviting. Lunch items are reasonably priced for the area, and the food is delicious!
Service was impeccable. Appreciate not having wait staff wanting to clear the table immediately after a plate was finished. Laura was gracious and pleasant. Wife and I spent our 13 year anniversary there and the food was excellent. Highly recommend this iconic oceanfront view. Check out the sunset from the rooftop bar.
Went to have birthday drinks and dinner.
1. Happy Hour was cancelled as it is only on the roof-top bar and it was closed for the day - no substitute given so pre dinner drinks were very expensive.
2. Dining room was nice and initial service was pleasant enough. Me I looked appetizing.
3. Pork chop was so tough that couldn't eat it
4. Potato Gratin was raw
5. No one came to check after food was presented whether it was of a good standard. Had to usher over a waiter to let them know, we were one of 2 tables so no excuse really that the food wasn't well prepared and to be forgotten about.
I really wanted to like the place because it looks great and has amazing views - but it was a very poor experience and they need to sharpen up their act. Ramsey would have a field day here.
I made reservations for 9 pm and made a special notation that it was my 4 month anniversary. When we got there there was no one to seat U.S. and the bartender was hesitant to seat us. We finally sat down and he was not very accommodating. At the end we wanted to order coffee but he said the bar was closed and they were not serving coffee. This was at 10 pm. I will never dine there again. Not a good memory of our anniversary.
We arrived for our 8:15PM reservation, were seated and from there, were rarely checked on after the hostess left us and the waiter brought us our drinks despite the fact that our party was literally the ONLY group there other than one couple. Once we tracked down our waiter to order, it only got worse. We did not receive our food until 10:17PM. I was in utter disbelief.
This was my second time at the Dining Room and I was shocked at the difference in the food. My chopped chicken salad had two main ingredients missing (snow peas and mushrooms) and the long pieces of unwieldingly thick chicken tasted dry and difficult to eat. My husband's French Dip sandwich was dry and cooked so much that it fell apart tastelessly. It was served with fried onion rings, but the onions were only supposed to be grilled. We'll likely never go back.
I am guessing the staff are not yet fully trained. We had to call the waiter over several times to sort things out. The waiter did not pay enough attention to my companion and me while we were ordering. For example, although he was told one of us was vegetarian, he kept extolling non-vegetarian foods. Instead of main courses, we ordered two appetizers a piece. I chose one, but was not sure which of two others I might like. I finally chose one, but was served three appetizers. He took away one, but I was charged for all three. I had to request he take one off the bill. The waiter should have recited back to me what I had ordered before leaving the table. Finally, we had trouble getting his attention so we could pay and leave. I might return, but not yet.
I loved the ambiance of the restaurant and its Arte Deco style. The wait staff were very helpful. I will return. The only thing I did not like was my appertif, a kir, because it was too cold. The wine suggested by the waiter was excellent and the food simple, not the least bit frou-frou.
There were three of us to celebrate a birthday. The food and the service was excellent. We had a pleasant table by the window with a view of the Palisades Walk and the Santa Monica Bay.
Our only disappointment was that the birthday dessert we had chosen was not available.
We all decided we would like to return with our spouses for dinner.
I love the rooftop bar at Shangri-la but had never dined in the restaurant. My boss treated me and two co-workers to an evening out so we chose the hotel for dinner. We had made a reservations and had a great table with a view. The food was delicious and we were all happy with our choices.
Unfortunately, the service was some of the worst I've ever encountered. It could be that they were understaffed but there were only two other parties in the restaurant and I counted two or three servers and a busser. We were short-changed on menus, left to sit for a long time without water or drink orders, waiters and bussers passed by our table and noticed that nothing was there but simply nodded without saying anything, and when the server finally came he said, "I didn't get to tell you the specials but you probably already know what you want anyway," When the food came out, two people were tripping over each other to lay the plates. I accepted an offer for ground pepper and when I said I'd had enough the server kept grinding it and saying, "Are you sure?"
We all agreed that the food and view were great but that the overall experience was one of the strangest we'd ever had. As a local, I'll continue to patronize the bar but I won't eat in the restaurant again.
This was indeed a pleasant experience, it was in a way like stepping back in time to the thirties. The restaurant is small and intimate with padded ceiling and walls, making the noise level comfortable. The furniture is classy and apparently original as is the floor with its intricate pattern of dark wood. At lunch, the view was fabulous across the Palisades to the blue Pacific. The food was very good, and the portions! I have never asked for a kitty bag for an appetizer before, but the plate of smoked salmon was just too much for me in one sitting. The waiters and maître d'hôtel were attentive to our needs, friendly without being intrusive. All in all, it was a memorable experience that we would like to repeat in the future.
Booked for Christmas, as was open that day, and have dined there before and enjoyed. The day before, was contacted and told only 75.00 pre fixe menu was being offered. Too late to change restaurants, so we went. The food offering was actually very good and they had everything on the menu, however the service was very poor, the help were very courteous when you could track one down, but if you had a problem such as cold potatoes served, you were on your own. Was it worth 75.00 ? For Christmas understandable maybe, any other time no. Would I recommend this place, yes during normal business days, but not for any type of Holiday dinner.
We just had dinner at the Dining Room with the new menu designed by new chef Kareem. A revelation. There isn't a restaurant in Santa Monica that can touch this experience. Everything was superlative and Kareem came out to talk to us near the end, and gave us a free dessert - the most amazing apple tart we have ever had. We have always loved the Dining Room for its location and vibe - and great service, but the food was never like this. Please go and enjoy a fabulous eating experience.
Watered-down drinks, fishy hamachi, cold oysters Rockefeller. The servers were nice enough and did explain that they're dealing with a transition, but I felt ill after three bites of food. The new chef better get in there ASAP.
Also, due to their impending changes, the menu on open table isn't even remotely close to what they're currently serving.
